Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-1-2017: New Year’s Day

Hmmm …

That’s THAT delivered …

I know have a webcam* — whose microphone I haven’t worked out how to use — and an external floppy drive I’ll try out later.

Oh, and a large capacity internal hard drive.

Right now?

I’m transferring my TV series collection from the old two terabyte one, to the new four terabyte one.

It’s … going … … slowly …

Once that’s done, though?

I can sell the thing to my local CeX.

Always appreciated …

Even MORE appreciated?   The simple fact that Amazon actually got it right: and delivered to both the correct address … !

That’s even more appreciated … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) As of 153 BC, what type of Roman politician took office, from 1st January?
Q2) January first is New Year’s Day.   What’s the name of the calendar much of the world uses: the Julian, Gregorian or Aztec?
Q3) New Year’s Day is also Euro Day.   It marks the day when the European Union adopted the Euro as currency.   It was first introduced in which year of last century?
Q4) New Year’s Day is — apparently — Bloody Mary Day in the US.   What spirit is usually used as a base for the Bloody Mary?
Q5) Finally … Novy God is the phrase for ‘New Year’, where: Russia, Argentina or Tibet?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Who was inaugurated as US president, in 2017?
Q2) Ballistic missiles were first launched across the Sea of Japan, in February of 2017.   By which Asian nation?
A2) North Korea.
Q3) The government of the UK triggered Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty on 29th March, 2017.   This means the UK will leave what?
A3) The European Union, or EU.
Q4) US forces dropped the world’s largest (non-nuclear) bomb: in April of 2017.   On an Islamic State base, where?
Q5) May of 2017 saw PCs across the planet hit by the WannaCry cyberattack.   Which British public body was seriously affected by WannaCry?
A5) The National Health Service: usually called the NHS.   (Specifically?   Both National Health Service (England) and NHS Scotland were hit by the attack.   WannaCry, itself, is a type of ransomware)
Q6) North Kensington was hit by tragedy: in June of 2017.   When a block of flats — Grenfell Tower — was hit by a fatal what?
A6) Fire.
Q7) Noted horror director, George A Romero, died in July 2017.   Many of his better known horror films are about which creature?
A7) Zombies.
Q8) August saw the sad death of entertainer, Bruce Forsyth.   Bruce had co-presented which dance show, until his retirement in 2013?
A8) Strictly Come Dancing.   (The US version is called Dancing with the Stars.   The Spanish version, Mira quién baila (Look Who’s Dancing) ended in 2014.)
Q9) The Cassini Huygens probe ended its long mission, this year: plunging into the atmosphere of which planet?
A9) Saturn.
Q10) ʻOumuamua (Pronounce OO mwah mwah) entered our solar system, this year: the first object to come from outside our system.   What IS it?
A10) An asteroid.
Q11) Which US actress did Prince Harry announce he was getting married to, this year?
A11) Meghan Markle.   (No, he’s not getting married to Angela Merkel … !)
Q12) December of this year saw the US President recognize where as the capital of Israel?
A12) Jerusalem.
Here’s a thought …
“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”
Edith Lovejoy Pierce.
And a quick tune from Abba …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Happy New Year, folks.

Here’s hoping the world treats us well, this year.

*        I’m not sure … but it strikes me one of the new iMacs onboard camera would work a treat.   Not that I’m dropping hints.

†        Oh, trust me, Olga, I know!   That jeff@amazon.com address does seem to have got things moving, sometimes.   And I know what you mean about the buildings.   I think the best Brentwood can do … is what’s left of Warley Hospital: which was one of the biggest psychiatric hospitals in Essex, while it lasted!   Mind you, there’s a few gorgeous little churches around.   Did you ever read Greg Bear’s Eon?   I did, back in the day.   It’s about what happens when a mysterious asteroid turns up in the solar system.   One that’s identical to Juno, an asteroid that’s already here.   Identical … apart from the doors at one end …

‡        Donald Tweet … ! Ha!!   Please tell me someone takes his phone off him, at night, Debbi!   At ANY rate?   It’d be good to see you and Rick back in town.   It’s my round … !

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
