Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1st May, 2018.

1st May, 2018.

Yep: it’s definitive …

I’ve had a … drive by attempt!

I was actually doing some writing, yesterday: doing the basics for an up coming ten question set.

And?

Innocently Googled something: barracks, I seem to recall.

And got the pictured page as a result.

Before you ask … ?   I didn’t click a thing.

I was suspicious.

Partly because the page looked slightly wrong: the colouring, in particular, looked … iffy.

Partly … ?   The good ol’ thing that macOS generally doesn’t have as much malicious software as Windows: or even Linux.   Having a website — even one claiming to be an Apple authored one — saying I had malicious software on my Mac struck me as … odd.

The few remote virus scanning sites I’d used, only do so … when I’ve gone to them.

And partly?   Because of the URL that showed up in the bar at the top of the page.

It looked nothing like an Apple authored web address I’d ever seen.

I navigated away from it, after taking a screen shot.

And looked up what happened.

Apparently?   That little event was an attempt at what’s called a drive by download.   If you click on any links or buttons on there?   You get hit with issues.

If I’d clicked on that scan button?

Well …

Let’s just say I’m grateful I didn’t …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring five out of five in the process.

The day also saw Olga† letting us know she’s busily moving.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 1st May is the feast day of Saint Joseph the Worker: said to be Jesus’s legal … what?
Q2) 1st May is ALSO May Day.   Traditionally, in England we dance around a maypole.   Or do what type of folk dancing … ?
Q3) If you’re marking Calan May on 1st May, you’re in which country of the UK?
Q4) The Great Exhibition was opened on 1st May, 1851: at the Crystal Palace.   Who performed the formal opening?
Q5) Finally … 1st May, 1945, saw the German government announce who was dead?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) J. J. Thompson announced — on 30th April, 1897 — that he’d discovered what: the proton, neutron or electron … ?
Q2) More to the point, that item has a charge of what: e, -e or 0?
A2) -e.
Q3) The first celebrities to leave their footprints outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, did so on 30th April, 1927.   Name either one of the two.
Q4) Which church was founded on 30th April, 1966?
A4) The Church of Satan.
Q5) Finally … the Vietnam War ended when the capital of South Vietnam surrendered.   What WAS that capital?
A5) Saigon: It’s now called Ho Chi Minh City.
Here’s a thought …
“I was once kissed on the lips by a giraffe, and I don’t think I’ve ever got over it.”
Joanna Lumley, 1 May 1946.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It’s sort of a shame Luc Besson, the director, is only better known for some of his sci-fi, Debbi. Saying that … ?   I keep thinking Fifth Element and Valerian look like they’s been influenced by Heavy Metal, THE French SF ’zine.   I went for learning German, at school: and always sort of regretted it: I really want to read the copies of the thing I saw at Forbidden Planet.

†        I hope everything goes well, Olga!

Although exhausted, at least the main things are in place now and I'm sure we'll get up to date soon. I'm pleased nothing serious happened but take care.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
