Thursday 3 May 2018

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd May, 2018.

3rd May, 2018.

Yes: it’s Thursday, it 3rd May …

And it’s something like a tenth day, working, in a row.

Boy, I’m looking forward to Sunday, though.

That’s my next day off!

That’s a thought …

There was a piece of news that caught my eye, the other day.

It seems noted blogger, Logan Paul, has decided to slow down on his daily YouTube posts.

I envy his advertising revenue, I really do.

But, on the other hand?

Keep thinking “Ya wimp … !”

He should maybe keep doing something for a decade!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 3rd May, 2018: Today.   What sort of elections take place in the UK, today: local or General?
Q2) Which US city was incorporated: on 3rd May, 1802?
Q3) The remains of the Benty Grange Helmet was found on 3rd May, 1848: in Derbyshire.   The helmet is what: Viking, Roman or Anglo-Saxon?
Q4) 3rd May, 1920, saw the government of The UK pass the law that partitioned where: India, Ireland or Canada?
Q5) Finally … ?   Which child went missing on 3rd May, 2007?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) The world’s first commercial passenger jet plane made its maiden flight: on 2nd May, 1952.   That plane was a De Havilland … what … ?
A1) Comet.
Q2) Which cruise liner made its maiden voyage — to New York — on 2nd May, 1969?
Q3) Tennessee Williams won the Pulitzer Prize: on 2nd May, 1955.   For which play?
Q4) The FBI’s then most wanted man was killed in Pakistan: on 2nd May, 2011.   Who was he?
Q5) Finally … 2nd May, 1929, saw the birth of guitarist, Link Wray.   His hit, Rumble, is credited with making what popular: the humbucker pickup, the power chord or the Marshall amp?
A5) The power chord.
Here’s a thought …
“When I was a student at Cambridge I remember an anthropology professor holding up a picture of a bone with 28 incisions carved in it. ‘This is often considered to be man’s first attempt at a calendar‘ she explained. She paused as we dutifully wrote this down. ‘My question to you is this – what man needs to mark 28 days? I would suggest to you that this is woman’s first attempt at a calendar.’ It was a moment that changed my life. In that second I stopped to question almost everything I had been taught about the past. How often had I overlooked women’s contributions?”
Sandi Toksvig, born 3 May 1958.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Yes, that’s the second posting of two, Olga: but, given the circumstances?!   I’ll let you off!   I’m assuming things are frantic … ?

†        It”s odd, Certainly.   But I actually saw Forbidden Planet several years before I saw Police Squad, or Naked Gun.   Or the Red Rock adverts!   You do know the film’s based — loosely — on The Tempest?

Thanks. Yes, a bit of a weird day. Love the quote and the song... very apt for my profession, indeed. Don't work too hard.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
