Sunday 12 August 2018

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-8-2018: World Elephant Day

12th August, 2018.

Yep: it’s a Sunday.

It’s officially another early start.

And frankly?

It’s time like this unemployment seems attractive.

Well … aspects of it, anyway.

The ones that let me get up after 4am on a Sunday morning!

Oh, just as a thought … ?

You’ve possibly worked out I’m a Dr Who fan: one following the news — or lack of news — about the upcoming eleventh series with a certain amount of interest.

Apparently?

The new TARDIS set has been leaked*.

If it’s the photo I think it is … ?

It looks interestingly crystalline!

I know the BBC are probably not happy about that leak: it’s their content, after all.

But I can’t help but think a few more publicity shots would be … your know …

Nice … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 12th August is World Elephant Day.   When was it first marked?
Q2) There’s three, currently recognised species of elephant.   Name one of the three.
Q3) Which of those specie has (comparatively) small ears?
Q4) All three species have a very long proboscis.   Or what?
Q5) Finally … elephants can be left or right … what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 11th August, 1984, saw someone, jokingly, say “We begin bombing in five minutes.”   Who said that?
A1) Former President, Ronald Reagan.   (Thankfully, he wasn’t on Twitter …)
Q2) 11th August, 1952, saw Hussein bin Talal named  as king of where?
A2) Jordan.
Q3) Sheremetyevo International Airport opened on 11th August, 1959.   It’s the second largest airport in which country?
A3) Russia.
Q4) 11th August, 1971, saw the Admiral’s Cup yachting race won by a British boat: skippered by whom?
A4) Then Prime Minister, Edward Heath.
Q5) Finally … 11th August, 1897, saw the birth of Enid Blyton.   Which of her book series feature Julian, Dick, Anne and Georgina (George), and Timmy the dog?
A5) The Famous Five.
Here’s a thought …
“An elephant can trumpet and shake the earth but not the self-possession of the ants who hold it.”
Alistair Cooke, Letter from America, 24 March 1968.
And a song or three …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s, left handed Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Going by the updated Radio Times article?   There’s ten episodes in the series: plus a Christmas special.

†        I know what you mean, Olga, I know what you mean … it’s a tragedy, either way … (And a runner?   It’s a blow on a lot of fronts.   I can only hope it contributes to improving mental health services …)

‡        Oh, blimey!   Have you manage to post it up to YouTube, Debbi … ?   Michael Moore, here we come … (Same day as Edward Heath, hmmm … ?   He was a funny one: people have been arguing about his sexuality for years …)

Thanks, Paul. I have no idea if he was in touch with services at all. (It seems he had attempted suicide in 1994 but that was a long time ago) and I don't know the circumstances (not sure if we will). Hoping your Sunday isn't too painful...
Oh, I came across some forum where they were discussing American Horror Story and they seemed to know Jessica Lange was only coming back for an episode, at least in this series, but not sure how they knew...

  2. Well, there's another reason for me to like him! :)

Mind you, I haven't a clue about his politics.

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
