Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th August, 2018

5th August, 2018.

Yep: my innards played up, yesterday.

To the point where I had to take the day off: barely able to stand up.

I think my innards are still iffy: but they’re better than they were.

I’ll tell you what, though.

It’s not good.

On the upside … ?

I’ve got the radio on.   Or, at least, have Radio Four playing on my TV.

Where the news has just announced that Sir Patrick Stewart is to reprise his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

This could be interesting.

Especially if we get to see Worf in the new design of Klingon make-up.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) The Battle of Dogger Bank took place: on 5th August, 1781.   It was part of the fourth war between Great Britain: and where else?
Q2) Dogger Bank is in which sea?
Q3) 5th August, 1962, saw Marilyn Monroe found dead in her bed.   Who was the last man she was married to … ?
Q4) 5th August, 1975, saw the Forestry Commission announce Dutch Elm Disease was spreading in the UK.   The disease was spread by a type of what … ?
Q5) The UK’s Admiralty rejected the invention of Francis Ronalds’s new invention: on 5th August, 1816.   The device was a type of electric what: telegraph, gun sight or bacon slicer?
Q6) Finally … 5th August, 1930, saw the birth of astronaut, Neil Armstrong.   He held a teaching position at which US University?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 4th August, 1984, saw the Republic of Upper Volta change its name to Burkina Faso.   What — before or after the change — is the country’s capital?
Q2) Which country established its Supreme Court: on 4th August, 1947?
A2) Japan.
Q3) 4th August is the Feast day of Saint John Vianney.   He’s patron saint of what: amputees, monks or parish priests?
Q4) 4th August, 1889, saw a fire hit the city of Spokane.   Spokane is in which US state?
Q5) Finally … NASA launched the Phoenix probe on 4th August, 2007.   Where was it due to land?
A5) Mars.
Here’s a thought …
“I entered literary life as a meteor, and I shall leave it like a thunderbolt.”
Guy de Maupassant, 5 August 1850 – 6 July 1893.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Oh, yes, I’d caught that, Olga: although none of the press I’ve seen have said how many episodes she’ll be doing.   Still, it’ll be interesting to see her reprise her first season character.   I just hope they don’t ask her to start singing!   (It’s a shame Angela Bassett’s dropped out: she was seriously underused.)

†        Probably have to keep an eye open for that Chrome extension, Debbi: mind you … there might be an equivalent in Safari.   Bar the Facebook issue, it’s mostly fine.   Well … mostly … !   Oh, did you catch the news about Patrick Stewart … ?

Do take care and look after yourself (although I know it's difficult to know what to do for the best and sometimes it doesn't matter how careful you try to be). I read the one episode only about Jessica Lange from some sources in Spanish. I don't know if they were better informed or they were not warned to keep quiet (or perhaps they made it up).

  2. Yes, I did. Rick told me about it. That's great. I just wish it weren't on CBS streaming or whatever it's called.

I just watched "Attack the Block". Fantastic movie in so many ways! :)

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
