Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10-1-2019: Hail Caesar!

10th January, 2019.

I swear, however much caffeine I tip down my neck … ?

I’l never get the hang of late night video assembling, after a long day in central London … !

Yes: you’re right.

I had the interview, yesterday!

In London, I should add!

Frankly?

I’m just glad an old friend decided to totter along with me.

Frankly, it made finding the please easier …

And getting home a lot more interesting.

Even if we got off the train at Caledonian Road, instead of Holborn, on the way home!

In OTHER news … ?

It seems scientists at a Canadian observatory have found fast radio bursts coming from deep space.

They believe … well, lots of things.

But many, we’re told, believe the bursts are from some form of rotating stellar object: like a neutron star.

Some … ?

Think it’s possibly from an alien space ship.

It’d be exciting, if it was the latter.

Given the distance?   The crew of the spaceship would’ve died out a long time ago.

But it would be exciting, non-the-less.

Even then, I can’t help but think of the words of Steve Martin, in one of his Saturday Night Live sketches, back in the day.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Badwolf† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Julius Caesar managed to start the Roman Civil War: on 10th January, 49BC.   By crossing which river?
Q2) The crossing happened after the Senate ordered Caesar to disband his what: taxman, legions or builders?
Q3) The war was one of the last to take place in the Roman … what?
Q4) One side in the war — the Populares — were led by Caesar.   The other side, the Optimates, were led by Pompey the Greatª: and were, in theory, loyal to the Roman … what?
Q5) Finally … ?   The war led to Caesar being named as what: princeps, dictator or Emperor?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 9th January, 1923, saw the first flight of a what: auto-gyro, biplane or monoplane?
A1) Autogyro.
Q2) Alison Halford resigned her post: on 9th January, 1992.   She was, at the time, Britain’s most senior female what: MP, police officer or head mistress?
Q3) Dale Frail and Aleksander Wolszczan announced they had found the first planet outside our solar system: on 9th January, 1992.   The planets were around a what: black hole, pulsar or nova?
A3) Pulsar.
Q4) 9th January, 1886, saw the birth of luthier and composer, Lloyd Loar.   Loar introduced what to the instruments he designed: pick-ups, cutaways or f-holes?
A4) F-holes.   (He was also, apparently, a noted musical saw player.)
Q5) Finally … ?   January 9, 1925, saw the birth of Lee van Cleef.   In which film did he play Reese?
Here’s a thought …
“Let us accept this as a sign from the Gods, and follow where they beckon, in vengeance on our double-dealing enemies. The die is cast.”
Words attributed to Caesar, by Suetonius in his The Twelve Caesars.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Cheers, Olga: I’m just hoping it went went well.   The work force seemed quite young, though: I MAY have a disadvantage …!   Now, given Juan de la Cierva invented them …what IS the Spanish translation for ‘Little Nellie’?

†        Did you manage to get some sleep, last night, @Badwolf … ?   Oh, and I think you’re doing well, today … !

‡        It WAS just a bit, Debbi!   :D   Oh, did I mention I have an app the let’s me see Twitter as a lot of columns?   I’ve got one for The Prisoner!

ª        Am I the only one who thinks ‘The Optimates’ are a type of Transformer?

^        John Otway does a version of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, in his shows.   Wish I could find the live version.   It’s the only time I’ve seen someone use a step ladder as a sound effect!

I love it when someone comments. But, having had anonymous comments I feel may be libellous, actionable or just plain offensive, over the years?

I’d appreciate you* leaving your name — with a link to your website or social-media profile†, for preference — before you post a comment.

Should you choose to use a pseudonym/name, I’d appreciate it if that name were to be polite and inoffensive. I’d rather you kept it clean, and relatively grown up. Comments left with a pseudonym will be posted at my discretion: I really prefer a link.

Contentious, actionable or abusive posts left anonymously will not be posted. Nor will comments using offensive pseudonyms or language, or that are abusive of other commenters.

Thank you.
