Westworld — Series 2 — Episode 9: Vanishing Point — A Review

OK, I’ll admit it.

I’m something of a Snooker fan.

Someone who tries to watch it where possible.   But doesn’t necessarily always get the chance.

Frankly?

I managed to catch some of the Robertson-Georgiou match, today: in the first round of this year’s World Championship.

Fascinating watch … but, given it’s 9-0 to Neil Robertson?   I think Australia’s finest has an advantage.

Saying that … ?

Saying that, you’ve possibly worked out that I have a large set of TV shows cued up: ready and waiting to be watched.

Including the current favourite, Westworld, series two.

It’s … 

It’s holding my attention, let’s put it that way …

Episode 9 — Vanishing Point —  opens by showing us that Emily (Katja Herbers) has taken her father, William (Ed Harris) to one of the park’s Rally Points: a designated area where staff can pick up injured guests.

While they’s waiting … ?   The discussion inevitable turns to the death of Juliet (Sela Ward).

   In flashbacks we see that William’s wife, and Emily’s mother, was an alcoholic: who committed suicide after one last binge.

At one point in those flashbacks?   We see that William has been given a card: with details of his profile on it: made as part of the deal between William and Robert Ford (Sir Anthony Hopkins).

The deal lets Ford keep his storylines in place in the park … and mean Ford won’t interfere with the Valley Beyond: where William’s work on making people immortal continues …

In the Mesa, the underground part of the park?

Clementine (Angela Sarafyan) — formerly a hooker for Maeve (Thandiwe Newton) — has been reprogrammed with code extracted from Maeve.

The management … ?   In the shape of Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson)?

Want to do a serious reboot of the park.

What she, and very few other’s don’t realise?

Is that William, THE Delos boss of all bosses … ?

Is in the park, is having serious issues … 

And drastically resolving others … 

By killing Emily …

Now … 

I have to admit, this second series of Westworld is barrelling towards a climax.

One that looks like it could be … 

Let me put it this way: I saw the last episode of Star Trek: Discovery’s second series last night.   And came away very impressed.

It looks from here, as if Westworld’s second series is ALSO heading that way: for an impressive climax.

Saying that?   Westworld’s penultimate episode?

Is a really good lead in-to that climax.

We’ll have to see if that climax pays off, won’t we?
