Star Trek Discovery — Series 2 Episode 14: Such Sweet Sorrow (Pt 2) — A Review

*Spoilers*

19th April, 2019

Yes: I’m officially too skint to afford hot cross buns.

Which is a shame: the odd one?

Is occasionally nice.

The most I can can do, this Good Friday?

Is be grateful I can’t afford the blessed things.

I don’t think my weight could take the pace.

~≈§≈~

Actually, that’s something else I think I should mention …

My GP has had me taking medication to deal with an underachieve thyroid: for quite some time.

AND had made sure I was on something that helped what we thought was Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

That could’ve have been a mistake.

As — after the last set of thyroid function tests — included tests on my levels of Vitamin D.

Turns out I’ve a Vitamin D deficiency.

And the medications she’s given me for that … ?

Ain’t half helped!

At any rate … ?

At any rate, I have time on my hands …

Time on my hands, and nothing to do …

Except catch up with something.

Yep.

However good today actually is, it is still a Friday, which means the last episode of … Star Trek: Discovery, Series two.

~≈§≈~

Episode 14 — Such Sweet Sorrow: Pt 2 — opens with a rapid fire prattle scene: showing us the crew of the Discovery building a Red Angel time suit for Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green).

Whilst both the Discovery and the Enterprise confront a Section 31 fleet controlled single-handedly by Leland (Alan van Sprang).

The situation is desperate: as the two ships have to fend off the attackers whilst Micheal prepare to make not one, but several, time jumps: as Spock (Ethan Peck) has suggested this is the only way to get around a mysterious lock preventing the suite from going forward in time and completing the pair’s mission.

Sending Michael forward in time?

Is going to be tough.

Now …

Am I disappointed?

Yes.

I would’ve liked a hot cross bun,

But there we go: beggars and fat people can’t be choosers.

As for Such Sweet Sorrow (Pt 2)?

Disappointment is not the word!

Such Sweet Sorrow (Pt 2) is possibly one of the best episodes of Star Trek I’ve seen: snappy dialogue, moments of tense drama, high emotion …

And a HUGE battle scene, the like of which I never thought I’d see: outside of the movie  entries in the Star Trek franchise.

It’s literally eyewatering!

There’s also the death of Admiral Cornwell: saving the Discovery in the process of defusing a photon torpedo lodged in the ship’s hull.

There’s ALSO the ending …

We see the Discovery — led by Commander Burnham — dramatically pulled into a wormhole: heading into an unknown future.

With the Enterprise crew having to cover for their colleagues: telling HQ the Discovery has been destroyed in action.

And, at the end of the episode?

Ignoring a mysterious red signal that suddenly appears …

It’s beautifully done.

We known — now — that a third series is in the works: something I’m looking forward to.

But frankly?

Such Sweet Sorrow (Pt 2) is a truly stunning climax.
