Did I mention I was in Brentwood High Street, yesterday?

I was in Brentwood High Street: I got a bus up, so you know.

And … ?

Well, for a start, there was a couple of police officers hanging around Brentwood Station.

Just over the road from it, at any rate.

There was a few police cars going up and down Brentwood High, as well: and a few officers wandering around.

Presumably enjoying the sunshine, on top of whatever they were supposed to be doing.

There was something else, as well: one of the live facial recognition vans that Essex Police use.

Why on Earth the thing was in Brentwood high street, yesterday, I don’t know.

Especially when they’re supposed to be patrolling Southend on Sea*!

I feel tired, still.

I think an early night might be in order.

Which is always awkward on a Saturday: it’s Dr Who night!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 10th May, 2024.

10th May, 2024.

It’s official: it’s Friday.

And … ?

I have to confess: I’m feeling somewhat saddened.

Back in the day, I worked at a local pub, called the Essex Arms.

One that — even to this day — is noted for live music.

When I worked there?

The place had a lot of very good bands play: including the legendary Wilko Johnson.

And the equally legendary Dumpy’s Rusty Nuts: the only band — during my time there — to cause a stage invasion.

That was an evening!

One of the others?   Was Nicky Moore’s Blues Corporation.

Nicky, formerly of Samson?   Was one hell of a singer: and had the white blues voice.

I say ‘was’, as I looked him and the band up, last night: after realising I’d not transferred over a couple of his LPs to my new Mac*.

I was devastated to find he’d died of Parkinson’s Disease in August, 2022.

I’m saddened, devastated and lord knows what else: I can only imagine how his family are feeling, even now.

The man was a talent.

The day after my nephew, Jude came over: and made a video.

I’ve got to confess, I’ve got type two diabetes.

So, of course, I tend to notice when it’s mentioned in the news.

It has been, all morning: as the BBC’s been reporting that some seven thousand deaths from complications from diabetes … can be laid at the doors of poor treatment.

I’m concerned: of course I am.

I’d hate to have a foot off*, if it’s preventable.

But … ?

I can see nothing I can do: bar living as healthily as possible.

And being patient.

I’ve got a dentist appointment.

Just a check up, so you know: but it’s early enough that an early start seems appropriate.

If I end up with all my teeth, and end up with toothpaste, I’ll be up on the day.

Yes: I’ve got just enough cash to do a little shopping!

And enough time, this evening, to make some goulash.

Or possibly spaghetti.

I’ve got to admit, I feel slightly rushed: I’ve a phone meeting my Shaw Trust case worker, today.

That doesn’t stop raising something with you.

You’ve heard of earworms, yes?   Songs playing themselves around you head?

I’m wondering what the visual equivalent would be.

I’ve been re-reading Moorcock’s A Nomad of the Time Streams.

And, as ever, had a mental image of what Una Persson — one of the main characters — looks like.

A very specific mental image.

I think a lot of people do something similar.

It bothered me enough to that I went looking, yesterday.

And, after about half an hour’s Googling?

Realised my version of the character looked like Gina McKee.

I wish I knew why!

But, as I’ve said?   I think more people did something similar: they have mental images of a fictional character … that’ll turn out to be a very specific person*!

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels — Series 1 Episode 3 — Wicked Old World — A Review

Yes: it’s official: I’ve both eaten diner … and washed up.

Well, it was that or let the plates pile up in the sink.

The one thing I think I can safely say?

Is that it’s the first time I’ve made mashed potatoes, myself … out of real potatoes.

Rather than, say, instant mashed spud.

Being honest … ?

I think I made a little too much … and possibly didn’t get all the lumps out.

But I’m rather pleased I managed to make some.

And I’ve managed to sit myself down and watch some TV!

You’d possibly guessed that from the poster, haven’t you?

Yes: I’ve caught another series one of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.

After having a late night, watching a movie: the 2019 Bacurau.

Interesting watch, that!

Quite what I made of it I couldn’t tell you!

It’s something I looked out for, after seeing film critic Mark Kermode recommend it.

It’s interesting … 

I’m just not sure I’d’ve watched it, if he hadn’t mentioned it …

Yes: I think we can safely say the I and my nephew, Jude … ?

Had too much pizza, last night!

Saying that … ?

The past few weeks, I’ve baby sat Jude: although that’s possibly the wrong phrase to use, given he’s eight.

Eight … possibly going on fourteen.

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, yesterday was Thursday … which meant Jude Day.

And, JUST to be different?

We had pizza delivered: one Margherita from him, one pepperoni passion for me.

That … 

That and the fact I’ve worked out how to do screen recording on my phone, could record audio with Quicktime, and that Jude* likes the fact we can use iMovie to make his voice sound funny?

And could edit stuff together,  with totally amateur movie making?

Dame Barbara Windsor has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Which is sad to hear.   Hopefully, though?

Her and her family will be getting the support they need.

Which is possibly a cue for a song.

Have you ever heard of an American chap called James Comey?

He’s the now ex-head of the USA’s Federal Bureau of Investigation.

He’s the ex-head … 

As President Trump sacked him last night.

Apparently for making a dogs dinner of the investigation in Hilary Clinton’s emails, during the presidential election, last year.

Director Comey was also in charge of the investigations into the Trump campaign team’s links with Russia during the same election.

To me?

Sacking the chap who’s investigating you seems …

Well …
