I am swearing … a lot … !

As … ?

It’s turning into a frustrating morning.

Usually, in making my introduction video, Final Cut Pro and iMovie have no issue finding, and using, my Music library.

Today, they didn’t: for an unknown reason.

So … ?

Wanting something to listen to, while I wrote … ?

I switched on my copy of Apple Music.

Which also refused to load up my music library.

Until I held down the Option (⌥) key, whilst opening the app: which allowed me to point the thing at my media library.

So that’s that issue solved: after a certain amount of panicking!

However … ?

Final Cut — and iMovie, as it turned out — couldn’t access the Music library.

Why … ?

I don’t know.

I can only hope posting this to the Apple Communities forum will help!

Here we go, again … !

The Government — blessed be their bureaucrats — has decided that those of us on various health benefits need help to get back to work.

And?

Going by this piece on the BBC’s news site?

The Government — or, at least, the Department of War and Pensions — is to redeploy roughly one thousand work coaches, the case workers who deal directly with clients.

So that the officers can “… focus on tackling economic inactivity”.

Frankly?

I think that sounds familiar.

It sounds a lot like the things previous governments have done.

They’re re-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic …

Yep: it’s Wednesday!

And … ?

It’s the day the government — in the shape of Chancellor Jeremy Hunt — announces this year’s budget.

I don’t know what he’ll announce.

But can only hope he retains the Cost-Of-Living payment.

I — and thousands of others — have found that money damn useful.

Yes: it’s officially Monday.

And?   Presents have turned up: after Mum dropped them off.

I’ve ended up with the complete Torchwood blu-ray box set, and I Am The Law: a (hopefully) digestible examination of how the Dredd … predicted the future.

We’ll have to see about that: I still think the only thing that’s done that, is a little film called Brainstorm.

At any rate: it’s Monday.

Which means … ?

I’m off to the Job Centre for my fortnightly meeting with my case worker.

Hopefully?

It’ll go well.

I can, at least, tell him I’ve got a date for my hearing.

Yep: it’s thumb twiddling day!

I’ve actually got a Sunday where I’ve little to do: beyond finishing a batch of videos.

I’m fully expecting to be twiddling my thumbs for a bit.

Or, at least?   By writing up seem bits for my, eventual, reviews of the current series of Star Trek: Picard, and Star Trek: Discovery.

We’ll have to see if I can start watching those, soon.

I’ve got to admit, there’s one minor upside to lockdown.

The simple fact there’s a lot less traffic outside my window.

Which means I get to hear birdsong.

OK … it’s mostly a bird’s way of saying “Get off my bush!!”

But it’s still nice to hear!

Did I mention I’ve been watching The Strange World of Gurney Slade: the famously odd piece of TV from the early 1960s, starring Anthony Newley.

It’s worth a watch.

If — from no other reason, for a UK sci-fi fan — than to catch some of the recognisable faces!

And voices, now I think of it.

I caught episode three, last night.

John Bennett turns up as Napoleon.

Yes, before you ask: John Bennett of Li H’Sen Chang/The Talons of Weng Chiang fame.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-3-2020: Ghana

6th March, 2020.

It’s Friday, it’s five o’clock, it’s Crackerjack!

Quite why the phrase started banging around my head this morning — bar the fact it is Friday — I don’t know.

But there you go … !

At any rate … ?

My birthday was on Wednesday, just gone.

And?   It seems Ebay are slightly better than Amazon at doing deliveries … 

My birthday present, a refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad T400, got here when Ebay said it would.

Either way … ?

The things now running a version of Ubuntu — Ubuntu Mate 18.04.4, if you’re asking — which was relatively easy to install.

Once I got things figured out.

First off … ?   I burnt a copy of the live installer to a blank DVD: as I didn’t have much luck putting it onto a USB stick with balenaEtcher.

Once I’d done that, I managed to fiddle about with the BIOS setting on the laptop: so it would boot from the DVD.

The actual installation?

From the initial boot up to the finish, it took about half an hour to get the operating system installed, set up my user account, then add a couple of simple gamer, a media player, and some media codecs.

The fact a version of torrent client, Transmission, and that it can access various torrent site proxies?

Means it’s a pirates delight.

Not that I’m encouraging outright copyright theft.

That would be naughty.

As a final thought … ?

As a final thought the thing doesn’t have a webcam: as I mentioned last night.

But it does have bluetooth.

Which could come in handy … 

About my only concern at the moment?

Is whether I can hook it up to the library’s wifi network.

We’ll have to see.

I think I can safely thank my family.

Bless em, we actually had a sandwich, yesterday: to mark my birthday.

Over at the Barnyard Cafe, in Pilgrims Hatch.

Which was rather nice, it has to be said.

And quick … 

I’m burbling, aren’t I … ?

To get to the point.

Bless them, my family’s given me enough money to get my phone’s screen repaired.

Which, hopefully, will be done by this morning.

For a start?

The repair shop is one I know, local: and did a very good job of my sister’s laptop, a little while back.

And, for another thing?

The SIM card’s looking rather lonely …

Talking of challenging, I’m a Dr Who fan.   You’d possibly noticed, hadn’t you … ?

I’m one who’d love to get to a few more conventions than he does: but there you go.

One I’d’ve loved to be at at, was this panel at the recent Gallifrey One convention.

If Wendy (Zoe Heriot) Padbury’s contribution doesn’t  leave you mildly shocked?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-3-2017

I seem to recall, a few years ago, that Peter Capaldi was announced as the man who’d be playing the 12th Doctor.

Fascinating to see: the series has been quite something to watch, too.

VERY Phillip Hincliffe, I’ve felt.

But also something that had presentiments.

As, a few weeks beforehand?

Bookies announced they were suspending betting on Capaldi being cast in the role.

Which wasn’t a bad move, as it turned out: it meant they keep their loses down.

The reason I mention it?

Is that history is — possibly — repeating itself.

As at least one bookie has has suspended betting on Kris Marshall.

Does that mean he’s a shoo-in?

I really couldn’t tell you.

But it will be interesting to see who get’s named … 

After all, going by his IMDb page?

He’s the right height …
