Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6th September, 2019.

6th September, 2019.

Yes: I officially have stuff going on.

Officially?   I have an interview on, at four o’clock: for a local bookies.

Yes, it’s the one I had reservations about, yesterday.

After a lot of persuasion?   I’ve decided to go along.

What’ll happen, whether I’ll get the job … ?   Considering I didn’t last time?

Who knows …

You’ve probably worked out, over the years, that I’m something of an Apple fan.

Hadn’t you … ?

At least, certainly a technology watcher.

So … ?

Something grabbed me, yesterday: this piece informs us that Amazon are planning to introduce their own branded smart TV: and sell it in the UK, at Currys/PC World.

I’m … 

I remember — around the time of Steve Jobs’ death, in 2011 — that there were rumours that Apple were going to introduce a Smart TV: rather than the streaming box we see, today, and at a time when Smart TVs were a lot rarer than they are, today.

I believed that, after reading Jobs’ biography, and from the various bits and bobs from various Apple watchers.

In the wake of his death?

Nothing happened.   Not a thing.

We saw the upgraded streaming box: which is great, I should add, and very different to earlier versions.

But no actual Apple Smart TV.

I concluded that the Smart TV was a Jobs lead project, and one that died with him.

Which is a shame.

And, from a company with a reputation for innovating, and making innovative devices, a seriously dropped ball.

Fast forward to today?

Fast forward to today, and — seemingly — Amazon are apparently planning their own smart tv: following the likes of Microsoft, and Apple itself, in making hardware as well as software, and other services.

Personally?

I think Apple stopped innovating.

That’s not a good thing.

That usually helps.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16-7-2018: Mo’ Money

16th July, 2018.

Yes: I’m right, aren’t I … ?

There’s interesting stuff doing the rounds.

For starters?

I’ve — as ever — got Radio 4’s Today programme on: and John Humphrys is giving a Russian hell.

Or getting hell from Sasha Baron Cohen.

One of the two.

At any rate, they’ve just had former Education Secretary, Justine Greening, on.

Whose calling for a three option, second Brexit referendum.

A three option Brexit, please note.

I HATE agreeing or endorsing anything said, done or even breathed on, by a Tory.

It’s on a par with asking Hilary Clinton to vote Republican.

But?   I’ve been thinking for months that we need a second referendum: one with exactly her suggestions.

The Government’s making a complete hash of it.

Her options?

• The soft Brexit proposed by Theresa May’s Chequers document.
• A Hard Brexit: leaving the EU with no deal.
• Staying in the EU.

Personally?

I don’t see it happening.

Mores the pity.

But I know I’d be happy to vote for staying in the EU.

I actually manage to catch … the series 11 teaser trailer*.

Although whether it’s a trailer or not is generating discussion on Twitter.

At ANY rate?

I’m pleased to have seen it: it looks good.

But notice that, beyond the ‘Coming This Fall’ text on the US version?

There’s no actually airdate.

That’s disappointing …

I managed to catch a film, last night.

One called The Endless.

Quite what to make of it?   I’m sure I couldn’t say.

But it’s an interesting film.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-1-2018: The Royal Exchange

Oooohhhhh, but a cuppa’s a good thing, first thing in the morning … !

Yes, I know me, drinking some tea, possibly isn’t something you want to see, first thing in the morning.

But … ?

Well, I’m blowed if I know what’s happening.

But having a clip of video seems — seems — to have a positive effect on the amount of visitors.

One other thing … ?

I’ve got the radio on, at the mo.

And … ?   Radio Four’s news bulletin has just announced that — despite putting its prices up, at the tail end of last year —Netflix has managed to increase its subscribers.

Good for them.

Frankly?

I think it’s show us the way technology has changed our world.

 Frankly?

Original, award winning, content?   Few, if any adverts?

Streaming is the new aerial, I think.

The fact it’s let me watch a new episode* of Star Trek, broadcast purely online?   When, twenty years ago, it would’ve had to go via a regular channel?

Could not have been broadcast without, in fact?

Possibly makes my point.

You know, for all I actually like my job, there are times I want to give it a rest.

Usually … ?

At about five o’clock on a Saturday morning!

Right now?

I’m yawning, drinking some really strong tea, listening to Radio 4 …

And desperately hoping that, when I do get to work, I can bag a seat by the window.

Fresh can’t half help keep you awake …

The Daily Teaser — 2-3-2016: The Pound

Right then … !

I’ve manage to put those in.

I mentioned, yesterday, that I’d had the letter from my landlords: telling me my rent had gone up by two  pence.

And that I’d need to take them into Brentwood Council.

Which I’ve now done.

My only problem … ?

Is that I’ve no idea how long any decision will take.

Partly … ?   Apparently, they’ve had delays, because they’ve had to investigate this little lot.

But mostly … ?

I suspect the usual amount of delays one gets when a large organisation gets a LOT of Work to do at one time.

Oy veh …
