Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-6-2026 — Raiders of the Lost Ark (Ten Questions)

12th June, 2026: Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Yes: it’s payday.

And I have enough money to put on my gas meter.

Not that I need to, given the weather, but making hay while the sun shines, seems sensible.

Which is a lot of ‘S’s …

At ANY rate … ?

And not that I need them … but I think a slogan t-shirt would be a good idea.

I think this …

… would worry people: which is part of the fun.

The other idea … ?

Is for a Foul Ol’ Ron emoji slogan.

Something like this: M✋&🦐

That’s obscure … unless you’re a Terry Pratchett fan* … !

Right …

I have — with a lot of help! — cured the overheating that’s been plaguing my Mac, every morning.

There’s was a lot of overheating caused by caused by processes called corespotlightd and spotlightknowledge.updater: and solved by deleting the contents of ~/Library/Metadata/CoreSpotlight/.

As far as I can tell?

The processes are where Spotlight is having trouble indexing my system: and seem to be triggered by Pages documents interact with iCloud drives access through a desktop Mac.

In my case?

It first seemed to be caused by updating to macOS 26.2,

Which is when I reset things, the first time.

It did it again: after I updated to macOS 26.5.1.

I can’t help but think Spotlight updates its index, as a result of an update: and — in some cases — going wrong as a result.

If someone can confirm that?   I’d appreciate it!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-6-2025 — The Philippines

12th June, 2025: The Philippines.

It’s official: it’s Thursday …

And, on a personal level … ?

I’m expecting piece, quiet, solitude …

And a certain amount of boredom!

I might just have to do something about that.

I’ve got movies in, and TV shows.

But might just end up thumb twiddling …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-6-2024 — Helsinki

12th June, 2024: Helsinki.

Right … Wednesdays …

Wednesdays means all sorts of things.

On this particular Wednesday?

It means I’m back at the dentist for the second day in a row: for a hygienist visit!

Gosh, the excitement!

~≈∑≈~

I’m following election news.

Or, at least, have half an ear on it.

And … ?

In the news, this morning, tells us that a recently published report says that ‘Voter confidence at record low’.

Are we surprised?

At any rate … ?

It seems the Greens are to release their manifesto, today.

I’m looking forward to that.

Their position on unemployment benefits will be a decider for me.

~≈∑≈~

JUST as a final thought … ?

I keep having an Instagrammer called YowieDeschanel float across my time line.

She’s a bit … hypnotic … …

It’s the way her daisy wobbles, isn’t it … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-6-2023 — Raiders of the Lost Ark

12th June, 2023: Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Well … I’m up early … !

Officially early, if you want me to put it like that.

And on a busy Monday.

Frankly?

I’ve my weight management class, this morning.

And a dentist’s appointment, this afternoon.

And I’m planning to watch The Mandalorian, tonight.

Busy … possibly doesn’t even start!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th June, 2022.

12th June, 2022.

Right … it’s official.

Petrol theft’s going up.   Petrol theft from garage forecourts.

At least, going by this piece.

I’m assuming the companies that run petrol stations are going to start complaining about that.

But … ?

Given the raining cost of fuel, I’m not surprised it’s happening.

I’m also thinking of a Terry Pratchett character: Lord Vetinari, Patrician of Ankh Morpork.

In one of the novels, Sir Terry gives us a bit of insight into the Patrician.

Before Vetinari gets the job, Ankh Morpork was suffering with a huge infestation of rats.

And offered a bounty to anyone who caught a rat: amateur and professional alike.   They just had to bring in the rat tails to claim the bounty.

The city immediately started handing out a suspicious high number of bounties.

Vetinari, when he was appointed, came up with a solution: in a line that tells you a lot about the city and the character.

“Tax the rat farms.”

OK …

I know forecourt economics are complex: involving taxes, profit margins, a lot of hedging, and lord knows what else.

But I can’t help but think petrol station companies have a (relatively) simple solution … lowering prices.

Granted, that’s going to cause problems: especially when staff don’t get paid.

But?

Well …

Lowering prices, introducing a price cap or taxing the rat farms, seems a temptingly easy answer.

Just in case your following my Star Trek Discovery reviews?

I caught the penultimate episode on Friday: and released my written and video reviews, last night.

Enjoy them.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th June, 2021

12th June, 2021.

Right … it’s officially my kid sister Anna’s birthday, today.

So … ?

If you’re anywhere near the restaurant where we’re having a celebratory dinner … ?

Feel free to say hello.

~≈Á≈~

I’ve been into Romford recently: a couple of times.

Mostly … ?

To visit the Romford branch of CeX, to cash in a couple of box sets.

Inevitably, I’ve looked in on Storefront, the local Apple reseller: to see if they’d had one of the new 24” iMacs in.

They did.

They’re an impressive looking thing: it’s another Jonny Ives Design.

And, from what I’ve read?   The M1 chip it’s built around gives it a boost.

I’d imagine if that main chip went, it would be a major engineering job to replace!

There’s pros and cons, as ever.

About my only real issues … ?

Is the external design.

The white bezel about the screen, along side the bright colours … ?

Remind me of the original G3 iMac.

I can’t help but feel that’s something of a step backwards.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th June, 2020.

12th June, 2020.

Yes: it’s the case I wake up … with earworms … !

Lady Gaga’s Love Game, so you know …

Why?

I don’t know.

All I can tell you is that ‘I wanna take a ride,’ line has been banging off the sides of my skull for the last few hours.

Arrrghgh!

~≈†≈~

In other news … ?

I’ve been reading Le Guin’s The Wind’s Twelve Quarters and The Compass Rose: a combined volume of two of her short story collections.

I finished one — The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas — the night before last.   And The Day Before the Revolution, last night.

The latter?   Is incredibly powerful: and one you should read for yourself.

The former?   Well …

If The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas, about a city whose perfection comes at a dreadful cost, doesn’t have real world parallels?

I don’t know what piece of fantasy does.
“The place they go towards is a place even less imaginable to most of us than the city of happiness. I cannot describe it at all. It is possible it does not exist. But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas.”

The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas, Ursula Le Guin.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th June, 2019.

12th June, 2019

You’ll excuse the language, I hope.

But … ?

Bugger!

I got the interview late, yesterday.

The trains took longer, and the venues was further from the station, than I thought.

Thankfully … ?   The recruiters have agreed to re-schedule the interview: for the 26th.

Assuming, of course, that I can get the funding for the ticket …

~≈§≈~

Before I move on … ?

Can I make a confession?

I’m getting rather hooked on Quora.com.

It’s a website that’s been going for a while: and lets you ask questions, and answer others.

I have to admit, I like it: it let’s me pass on information, without necessarily getting interrupted.

Like it … ?

I love it … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-6-2018: Russia.

12th June, 2018.

Yes, sorry about that!   I’ve actually managed to find the basic audio filters on iMovie.

Hubba, Hubba!

OK, that’s possibly not much of an achievement.

But it does mean I can tweak any coming Teaser videos: for amazing, and outrageous comedic effect.

Yeah … right … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-6-2017

Bugger!

Who’s a silly idiot?

Me, frankly!

I had a tenner in my bank account, yesterday.

Went in to Brentwood High Street … put my card into the cash machine … checked my balance … requested the tenner … took my card out …

Walked away …

Got half way up Brentwood High Street before I realised I’d forgotten to take the tenner.

By the time I’d got back to the cash machine?

It’s had gone.

Would you mind kicking me?

If I do it, I’ll miss!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-6-2016

You know, working for a living has its advantages, and disadvantages.

These days?

I can afford to buy my own trousers, for example: rather than really on the kindness of others.

I’m developing an Amazon habit, I know that … !

One of the down sides?

Is simply the fact that I work shift: and occasionally finish so late, it’s early in the morning.

I’m not griping, THAT much.

But six hours sleep, every-so-often, is starting to twang!!
