6th August, 2025: Bolivia.

Yay!   It’s Wednesday!

Which, frankly, means I’ve got washing to put away: after my washing machine was fixed, yesterday.

OK, that’s not a very exciting thing to report … but, hey: having clean, dry, towels is nice!

It’s 6th August: you’re possibly very aware of the fact.

That means it’s the eightieth anniversary of the US atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Hiroshima: with all that that implies.

It reminds me, as it always does, of an old boss of mine: who once told me that he, personally, put the bombings on a par with the Holocaust.

He was from an old British Jewish family, and had grown up during World War Two.

His comparison, comparing the first use of the world’s deadliest weapon to the world’s most inhuman war crimes,  always stuck in my mind.

Especially as it came from a member of Britain’s Jewish community.

The bombings won us the war, ended a truly horrific conflict.

But … ?

Were the bombings moral?

Ethical?

Somehow, and thanks to my old boss?

I don’t think they were …

On Tuesday, 6th August, I’ll be at Basildon Hospital: having a colonoscopy.

Hopefully?

I’ll be in the clear.

But if push comes to shove*?

This examination should find anything worrying, ahead of time.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-8-2021: World Wide Webbing …

It’s official: I’ve got my bath towels washing.

Which you possibly didn’t want to know.

Frankly, I’ve put them through, a day or two earlier.

Because of spaghetti.

I made a batch of spaghetti sauce, last night.

And, as I usually do, made sure I filled the sink: so I could clean some utensils as I went.

And … ?

And, I hear you ask … ?

I took my eye off the metaphorical board.

And ended up with a soaked floor: that need two towels to mop up!

I’m jobhunting: you’ve possibly noticed, if you’ve been following me for a while.

So you’re aware that — like others in my shoes — my budget’s tight.

The £20 uplift to Universal Credit, for example, is bloody helpful: but due to end in September.

So news that’s cropped up today. that Ofgem, the UK’s energy regulator, has effectively put up prices, by increasing the price cap … 

Is decidedly unwelcome.

Yes: I’ve finally managed to get the job.

After a lot of swearing, emailing, phoning, emailing, more phoning … and stuff.

The company I’ve been hired by has finally accepted my adoption papers.

After much consultation with the area manager, and Human Resources.

I start Thursday.

That’s counter balanced by the reason I’m up early.

Frankly?

It’s my uncle’s funeral, today.

I’m feeling quite chipper.

Which is surprising: as my guts were seriously playing up, yesterday.

To the point I had to go home early.   (NOT something I wanted: and something that’s getting seriously resented by co-workers.)

On the upside?

I had an old friend pop in on me, after work.

And didn’t get to bed until late.

The surprising bit?

Like I say, is feeling very chipper this morning.

Jodorowsky’s Dune: What … If … ?

You know, it has to be said, I like a film, now and again.

You’d possibly guessed that, hadn’t you?

What you possibly may know know?   Is that there’s a few books I tend to keep around.

I have done for years.

Terry Pratchett’s a favourite: with his death … ?

With his death, literature’s a poorer thing, I think.

William Gibson … ?   Got a few of his books, too: the seminal Neuromancer has been lurking on my shelves, whenever I’ve been able to have a copy.

Julian May … ?   Storm Constantine?   Debbi Mack?

Yep.

J. R. R. Tolkien?   He’s on the shelves, somewhere.

I could possibly do with more Neil Gaiman.   Oh, and H. G. Wells.

And possibly some Dickens, as well, just so people can’t accuse me of being a total philistine.   Although, frankly, there were never enough laser guns in A Christmas Carol, if you want my humble opinion.

You possibly don’t.

And when has anyone ever had a humble opinion?

At ANY rate … ?

That I’d also have a copy of Frank Herbert’s Dune sitting on my shelves.
