Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-12-2025 — How To Abolish the Monarchy

8th December, 2025: Abolition.

Right … it’s officially Monday.

And the day of my last weight management meeting.

Or, at least, the last one of 2025.

The meeting’s restart in January.

Either way … ?

I want to find out what’s happening!

~≈𐄷≈~

I caught the first — first — episode of The War Between the Land and the Sea, last night.

And have come away mildly impressed!

But … ?

I’m thinking timing is a thing.

Two episodes were aired on BBC 1, last night: and now available on iPlayer.

The next two … ?

Will be aired on the 14th December, and the last on the 21st.

Which means I’ll be juggling my timings, in getting the reviews written!

At any rate … ?

I’m very aware that Disney+ will be airing the episodes in January.

And that that time difference will prompt people to VPNs, Virtual Private Networks, to access them.

Or just head for torrent tracking sites to access them.

Those episodes are on at least one, already …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-12-2024 — Romania

8th December, 2024: Romania.

It’s now Sunday.

Really!

And I have to admit to getting a very good night’s sleep.

Walking home from my sister’s, yesterday, through a very stiff wind?

Definitely put an edge on things.

~≈💨≈~

That wind … ?

Was what was left of Storm Darragh: which I suspect was a lot worse on Britain’s west coast.

It meant the Everton-Liverpool game being cancelled: something my Liverpool-loving nephew wasn’t happy about!

But also means there’s still weather warnings in place for Essex.

It’s going to be blowy, out!

~≈🌪️≈~

Oh …

It seems rebels in Syria have taken Damascus, the country’s capital city.

While I’ve no emotional stake in the country’s long civil war?

I can only hope that the disruption these things inevitably cause is kept to a minimum: and that a stable civilian government — one that works and responds to the will of the people, rather than the men with guns — gets set up quickly.

I hope that’s the case.

But I’m big enough, and ugly enough, to think the fighting and chaos will carry on for a while.

I also note that Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s dictator, has fled the country.

I don’t know where he’s headed.

But I’m willing to bet the plane he and his family are on … has room for a lot of looted money.

In dollars.

I don’t think the Syrian pound will be worth much, right now …

~≈💲≈~

Just as a thought … ?

I’ve opened a Bluesky account: in the wake of many Twitter migrations.

Granted, there’s few accounts accounts from reputable news sources, and seems to be no way of proving an account’s who it says it is, and only so many people I know on Twitter have migrated to the thing.

There’s also — seemingly — no Share buttons for the service on YouTube or Blogger.

But … ?

It does seem to feature the ability to block followers, and doesn’t have intrusive posts from Elon Musk.

I’m here, if you want to follow me on the site.

~≈🦋≈~

As a final thought … ?

I’ve got Radio 4’s Sunday Worship on in the background.

The celebrant, Dr Cas Mary Thomas, has introduced a final song: from what she describes as a “small male choir.”

Does she mean a male choir with not many singers … or a choir made up of small men?

She wasn’t clear …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th December 2023.

8th December, 2023.

Right … it’s officially Friday!

Meaning … ?

Well, shopping may well occur.

I put in a second request for for help from the Essential Living Fund: the card came through, yesterday.

It’s helped already: adding more money to my utilities!

But … ?

I’m going to have to give them a call, this morning.

They’ve got my birthday wrong!

I know that sounds a little petty … but you need to feed in the correct one, to check your balance over the phone!

Ho-hum!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th December 2022

8th December, 2022.

It’s got to be said: I’ll be off to town, later.

In — as you may have worked out — the cold.

OK, granted: it’s the UK.

I’m in south-east England, so you know.

And?   It’s not necessarily going to be as chilly as Kyiv.

But?

It’s going to be nippy.

There’s frost on those car windows!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th December, 2020.

8th December, 2020.

Yes: I went to Romford, yesterday: via a misty Brentwood Station.

I came back with a little cash.

After having sold off a blu-ray, and a couple of USB flash memory sticks.

In one sense, that’s a loss.

In another?

It’s food shopping!

~≈😀≈~

Now, about the laptop I’ve borrowed from my landlord’s Digital Futures team … ?

Ha!

Nope: they can’t share the password with me … !

They can, however, send someone around to install the software for me.

In a mask, obviously.

The sooner the better.

~≈😀≈~

Just as a final thought … ?

It seems break-dancing is to make its debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

I don’t know if that’s good, bad, or downright odd.

But it means we can possibly have a song or two!

You have to love the Wikki Wikki Song …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-12-2019: The Island Of Ireland

8th December, 2019

It’s true …

At least I think it’s true.

Today is a slow news-day!

For a start?

I’ve got a quiet day ahead of me.

And a quiet day behind me.

Although — to be fair — I did manage to catch the bus into town, yesterday.

On an old fashioned, green double decker*: complete with a conductor with an old fashioned ticket machine.

What can I tell you?

Bar it was a nice bit of retro technology.

Especially when you saw how many people were taking photos of the thing.

There’s possibly an irony, there.

El Ministerio del Tiempo/The Ministry of Time — Episode 7: Tiempo de venganza/Time of revenge

8th December, 2018.

Yep: I think we can call me Mr Odd …

Although, if you haven’t already … ?

I’m not going to worry too much.

I’ve already got a lot to worry about, to be going on with … !

For starters, my Aunty Bella — the last member of my family on my father’s side — is in hospital, at the moment.

I’m hoping she’ll come out alive.

But am concerned: she’s in her eighties, after all.

~≈§≈~

He says … !

Other stuff to worry about … ?

Is tame by comparison.

Frankly?

The job situation is worrying: although it has to be said I’ve a potential interview on Tuesday: assuming I can get funding for the ticket from the Job Centre.

The third worry?

Is even more trivial by comparison.

I can hear my inner voice asking me about it, now.

“Paul?   How many times can you sit through Japan’s Tin Drum album?”

Well, I’m blowed if I know.

The worrying bit is admitting I think at myself.

Well, no-one’s going to do it for you … !

At any rate, and in amongst all the waffle?

In amongst all the waffle, twaddle and nattering … ?

I’ve seen another episode of El Ministerio del Tiempo/The Ministry of Time — of Series 1, so you know.

Yes: Amelia (Aura Garrido) does shout “¡Alonso!”

Wouldn’t you know it … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8th December, 2018.

8th December, 2018.

Yep: it’s officially getting dark outside.

A result, obviously, of the clocks going back a few weeks ago.

Personally … ?

I know this will possibly sound odd, but I kind of like it when it’s both cool, and dark in the morning.

Call me romantic … !

~≈§≈~

Oh, just so everyone knows … ?

The notorious O2 outage is now, officially, over.

Thankfully …

All that’s needed now?

Is some form of explanation.   Apparently, the hardware that went down, did so because a security certificate — the document that verifies a given site, or piece of kit, is who or what it says it is — had expired.

They’d gone past their sell by dates, in other words.

Nice to know someone’s on the ball.

All I have to do, now?

Is wait for the compensation to turn up.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-12-2017: Kid’s Stuff

Bleugh …

There’s just the one thing I hate about working evenings: much as I like my job.

Basically … ?

It means being knackered, first thing in the morning.

Not that I mind: I’m working, meeting people, and doing some good.

But … ?

Boy, I’m glad I’ve got a teapot … !

Nik Nak Daily Teaser — 8-12-2016

You know, I’m currently enjoying some time off: before I go back to work, tomorrow.

Which means … ?

Several things, actually: mostly involving laundry, ironing, and mopping the floor when my washing machine decides there’s too much washing poster in the drawer!

One thing I did manage to do … ?

Was catch up with the last episode of BBC3’s excellent Class.

Frankly?

I think that, if you’re a fan of science fiction, or Dr Who … indeed, of Torchwood or Buffy: The Vampire Slayer?

I think you’ll find it appealing …
