Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-1-2026 — Macintosh

24th January, 2026: Macintosh.

Hmmm …

That’s possibly good news.

I might — might — now be visible, again, on Twitter/X: after spending time being suspended.

If you’re on the service … ?

Can you head over there, look me up and let me know if I’m visible?

Cheers in advance … !

~≈X≈~

On an equally, and just as ambiguously, good front … ?

I’m due some Amazon deliveries, today: including a new air fryer.

Apparently?

One package is due to be delivered by the Royal Mail: with the rest coming via Amazon’s usual, anonymous, white van.

I just don’t know which package.

The excitement’s killing me …

~≈📦≈~

Actually, I’ve just double checked.

The air fryer’s getting delivered by Royal Mail.

I’ve got one question: will it be dropped of by Dave, the ever efficient postie?

Or by a Royal Mail van … ?

Gosh …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-1-2024 — The Death of Winston Churchill.

24th January, 2025: Sir Winston Churchill.

You know … it’s a Friday …

You’d worked that out!

And?

Frankly, the country’s being hit by Storm Éowyn: with Red weather warnings for Scotland, Northern England, and the island of Ireland.

I’m glad I don’t live in those parts of the UK.

But very aware it’s looking breezy out!

Being careful out is going to be a good idea!

~≈⛈️≈~

As a minor point … ?

I notice the storm is called Éowyn.

Why?

I don’t know.

But I’m wondering if it’s named for Éowyn: one of the few female characters in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.

It’s a shame they didn’t think of calling it ‘Gandalf’.

Naming a storm after a fictional character occasionally referred to as Stormcrow seems appropriate.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th January 2024.

24th January, 2024.

It’s officially official: it’s Wednesday.

And … ?

Frankly, I’ve got just enough cash to have a haircut!

It’s something I’ve been joking about with my nephew, Jude, for some time!

We’re both looking a bit shaggy!

~≈💈≈~

Which reminds me!

Jude’s put a new video up!

As he was over last night!

Feel free to hit the like button!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th January 2023.

24th January, 2023.

It’s official: I paid my bills, yesterday.

I’d got paid, after all!

Seeing how much money my gas and electricity meters have used was a bit of a shock.

At any rate?

I got paid … and got some shopping.

Frankly?   I forgot salt, tin foil … and cornflakes!

There’s always something!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th January, 2022.

24th January, 2022.

Right: I’m officially up and ready … to sit indoors!

I’ve got a phone based medical assessment this morning: to see if I qualify for any extra financial help.

Frankly?   I don’t expect to get anything.

Or, at least, don’t expect to get any extra help: unless I appeal.

At any rate?

That assessment is today: between nine and twelve.

Much as I’m looking forward to getting it done … ?

I hate being stuck indoors, in the mornings!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-1-2021: John Belushi

24th January, 2021.

It’s officially official.

It’s cold out!

Frankly?

I’m going to go out for my usual stroll, at some point: the weather’s th won bit I’m not looking forward to!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th January, 2020

24th January, 2020.

Right … finally … !

I now have a boiler that works, doesn’t leak …

AND has a working thermostat.

With replaceable batteries!

Actually … ?

I’m thankful it’s got batteries

It means there’s something I can check, first: as and when times demand!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-1-2019: Hadrian

25th January, 2019.

Yes: I had my benefits, yesterday, and managed to at least pay my rent.

After taking out as much as I could from the nearest cash machine.

I couldn’t take out enough to go shopping, yesterday: as I reached my withdrawal limit.

And couldn’t take out any more cash from my branch … as they were shut due to “unforeseen circumstances” …

At any rate … ?

It’s something I can remedy, today: simply by heading back to town.

On a day that — looking out of my front room window — that looks objectively quite nice for The time of year …

But certainly — according to the BBC’s Weather app — looks like it could be … sub zero …

The word yummy springs to mind, here: although, as Trevor^ pointed out in a comment on yesterday’s set?

“At least the sidewalks were clear” …

The pavements?

Are equally clear, today.

~≈§≈~

I know you’re possibly not a one who follow the technology news … but I do …

With Brexit looming ever nearer?   Anything that affects opinion gets looked at.

Including newspapers.

One piece of news I saw, yesterday?

Was that a new browser extension has been released: one that tells you if a given news site is unbiased, and/or accurate.

That extension is one that that famously pro-Brexit paper, the Daily Mail has fallen foul of.

The twist in this tale?

Is that the extension in question has — in one mobile browser — gone from being an optional add-on …

To being built in.

The browser?   Is the mobile version of Microsoft’s own Edge browser.

I’m told Edge has a comparatively small market share.

Both on mobile devices, and the desktop.

I think, thought, that the Mail will really start complaining …

When Edge’s market share goes up …

And Microsoft realises a desktop version …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-1-2018: There’s Gold In Them There Hills!

24th January, 2018.

Possibly more to say …

Oy … !

As I write?

As I write, I’m very aware that writer, Ursula K. LeGuin, has died.

And very aware that, when we use the phrase, “Standing on the shoulders of giants,” that she was one of the giants.

After all …

Have you read some of the Earthsea stuff.

I know I have.

It was, and is, innovative: a fantasy series that sees a boy wizard being trained, set in an archipelago based on her native Pacific North-west, where the major transport were horse, feet or boats, whose main characters were non-white?   As different from the Eurocentric works of other fantasy authors as you could get!

She did SF, as well: which I know I’ve yet to explore, but certainly keen to.

Phew!

On top of this?

Ye gods … but LeGuin did gob-smackingly gorgeous prose.

I can only hope some of mine turns out like hers …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-1-2017: Caligula

Bugger … !

I managed to have a word or two!

Remember, yesterday, I told you I qualify for Tax credits?

I was feeling pleased: as it looked like — under the UK’s tax collector’s rules — I qualified for a bit of extra money.

Unfortunately?

I thought having a double check with both my local Job Centre — and with the associated help-line — about it would be good.

After all, I’m still getting help in the form of Universal Credit: which goes towards my rent.

Apparently?   Apparently, and according to them?

I can’t claim Tax Credits!

It seems Tax credits are replaced by the various allowances in Universal Credit I’m on.

Bugger seems to just about cover it!

~≈®≈~

Oh, talking of work … ?

I was travelling home, last night: by train.

Nothing new there, I know.

But … ?

Just as we got to Shenfield, the next stop down the line from Brentwood, someone pulled the emergency handbrake: that forced the train to stop: when the last carriage, the one I was on, was some 10 foot from where it should be.

It turns out the chap who’d pulled it was having a panic attack: and a fear of enclosed spaces, like train carriages!

I’m sympathetic, I really am.

But also mildly annoyed.

I actually went past where the chap, and his friends, were: and could see they were trying to another friend out of the toilet.

He’d got stuck.

I also noticed the very distinct smell: of a very strong joint.

I can’t help but think that — if you’ve got mental health issues that let you stop a train ten foot from the platform  — laying off the Moroccan tomato plants would be a goo idea!

Especially if a friend’s too stoned to open the toilet door …

The Daily Teaser — 24-1-2016

Hmmm …

Looks like I’ve got a comparatively long day at work, today.

From 12 ’til 8:30, so you know.

There’s pros and cons.

OK, I’m doing to be woking, all day: which can be fun, and can be a drag.

But?

Being at work all day means I’m saving money on my electricity bills at home.

And, frankly, I’m grateful for is the fact that we get free food if we work more than so-many hours.

That’s dinner sorted … !
