OK … I’ll admit it: I need stamps .

Two of them.

I spent most to last night writing out ones I’m going to be sending to friends and family in the UK … after having sent off three international cards.

Which cost a (comparative) bomb.

At any rate … ?

I have sixteen cards to send … and fourteen stamps.

I wonder how many I’ll need … … … … … …

Hmmm … 

It seems something — something — is happening.

It seems that a ceasefire deal has gone into effect in the Middle East: between Israel and Hezbollah.

Which is nice to see.

But … ?

Can I make a confession … ?

I’m deeply cynical about the word, ‘ceasefire’.

So many of them have collapsed, over the years.

A few weeks ago?

An attack took place in Brentwood: one that took place in the council flats I used to live in.

That was … shocking: and still is.

But?

Someone has been charged with murder: and his barrister has pled ‘Not guilty’ on his behalf.

The barrister’s done it, as “… the prison in which [the suspect] is being held was unable to locate him.”

How the hell have they managed to lose a murder suspect?

You’ve heard of the Groucho Club, haven’t you … ?

It’s a members-only club in Soho: and very well known.

Apparently?

The place has temporarily had its license suspended: as a ‘serious crime’ has taken place, there.

What’s happened?

None of the reports I’ve seen are saying.

But … ?

I’m hoping police don’t lose the suspect …

I’m walking there, in the rain.

Well, for me, that means a bit of shopping: bread and milk, mostly.

But I’ll have to see about stamps and Xmas cards.

Frankly, I’ve not budgeted for them, this year: as they’re just a little bit too expensive.

There’s some sad news in … if you like hamsters.

Mr Goxx, the crypto-currency trading hamster has died.

A couple of German students had wired up his cage: so — depending on how long he ran on his wheel, or which tunnel he ran up — he’d generate crypto-currency trading suggestions.

It’s sad to hear the thing’s died.

It’s interesting to hear about the experiment in the first place … 

And I — like a lot of ageing 2000AD readers — will be thinking about Dave the Orang-utan …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-11-2020: Lancashire Day

27th November, 2020.

It’s a Friday … 

It’s quite assertively a Friday … and it’s Black Friday, if you didn’t know it.

In other words, it’s the Friday after the US Thanksgiving holiday: as anyone who read yesterday’s teaser would realise.

If I’ve understood it correctly?

Many Americans will be making a long weekend of it: I’m assuming that would include Old Peculiar regulars Debbi Mac, and her husband, Rick, and Edith will be have having a weekend off.

There’s one thing

The Black Friday sales.

From what I’ve understood, many US businesses will be holding sales: knowing well that their fellow Americans will have plenty of time to browse shops, websites and catalogues.

My issue?   Is that, over the past few years, many companies in the UK will be having Black Friday events.   Including Apple, this year.

I know KFC was, when I worked there.

To me, it’s stupid, and offensive.

Stupid, because we, in the UK, don’t celebrate Thanksgiving.   We the United Kingdom: Thanksgiving’s not our holiday.

Offensive?

Because, to me, it smacks of the USA trying to conquer the world.

I voted Remain in the referendum: because I think the UK’s better off as part of the European Union.   Many will have voted Leave, as they felt — and still feel — Britain should be independent of outside influence …

And yet … ?

Will be happily buying something cheaply, on Black Friday … an event imposed, effectively, by a foreign power.

But if anything sounds like cultural imperialism … ?

Or the US equivalent of the East India Company, slowly buying power for its home nation*?

Well … 

All I can do is congratulate those companies not joining in with the silliness.

Yes: I’m officially of to the dentist, today, to get my teeth cleaned.

It’s not something I’ve seen mentioned in anyone’s election manifesto, this year.

But?   If you’re receiving Universal Credit in the UK, you can get a certain amount of dental treatment for free.

Including hygienist appointments: so long as you use a trainee … 

I’m not complaining.

Even if I do end up getting strapped to a chair, it’s an afternoon out.

As for news?

I don’t know that I, personally, have much.

I know that I’ve not heard — yet — from the company around the corner from me.

I HAVE had a brief chat with another agency: who are recruiting for an insurance company ten minutes bus ride away.

That’s something to keep my fingers crossed for.

I’ve also got an interview: for Brentwood’s soon to be opened Burger King.

One, frankly, I hope I don’t get.

Because?

Well, burger flipping’s a youngster’s game.

There’d be WAY too many irritating school kids lurking around.

And a constant diet of staff-discounted Whoppers?

Isn’t what you call healthy …

Who’s been arrested and charged after committing rape …

That he stream live to the internet … 

OK … 

You want to rape someone, fair enough.

Don’t expect me to approve.

But to rape someone … 

And stream it live to anyone watching your channel?

Expect me to call you a bloody idiot.
