Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th February 2026

15th February, 2026.

Right … it’s officially official !

I’ve had to re-inflate the boiler!

Or, at least, twiddle the valves that raise the pressure in whatever it is that needs pressure, raising, to get the thing working.

I’m thankfully that I knew the trick.

It would be a nippy wait, in the cold, for a repair man.

And a long wait, heating enough water to have a bath!

As an extra point … ?

After complicated backing and forthing, between Amazon and I … ?

I now have a toaster*!

An Amazon Basics one, if you’re interested: which came with a warming rack, for if I ever wanted to toast croissants.

Which isn’t something I’m planning on.

The one question I have left … ?

Will the thing work … ?

~≈🥪≈~

Did I mention I’m on Quora?

The site that let’s you answer questions: and occasionally ask one, yourself?

I had this question float across my time line, a few days ago: asking if people would buy a Mac, if they were frustrated by — or were put off buying — Windows 11.

My answer?

Was that I felt that, yes: that’s one option.

What were you expecting, given I’m a Mac fan?

But I also added that I felt many would look at Chromebooks, or a model of tablet, before making a decision.

I’ve also added something else: that I think the big factor will be not how powerful a machine is, nor the operating system or whether MS Word works on the thing …

But quite simply one thing: budget.

Money’s always the biggest factor …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th February 2025.

15th February 2025.

Right …

I’ve been doing this — writing this blog — for some time.

And, as part of that … ?

I’ve been opening emails … and pressing various button, to publish posts.

Except this morning.

As … ?

As, it turns out, BT’s email service is down.

Why?

I don’t know.

But it’s tempting to blame the current US president!

At any rate … ?

I get the feeling that — once the service is back up — my email client’s going to be swamped … !

~≈📧≈~

Hmmm …

I’ve just noticed this piece on the BBC’s Red button service, telling us how a prisoner in HMP Peterborough has been given time for assault.

Telling us the inmate attacked a guard with sugar dissolved in boiling hot water.

Don’t ask how I know …

But they used to call that ‘jugging’ …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th February, 2024.

15th February, 2024.

Yes: it’s Thursday.

And I’ve officially got a few bits coming from Amazon.

Mostly … ?   For my feet.

A new pair of shoes, for one thing.

And some cracked heel balm.

The latter comes in handy for treating a side effect of diabetes.

I’m at risk what’s called ‘Peripheral neuropathy’: nerve damage to my feet, in other words.

The cracked heel stuff helps keep the skin of my feet sensitive: and helps let me feel when I’ve stepped on something that could cause infections.

I hope it gets here, soon.

As I’ve managed to pick up a cheap set of dice: a set that also includes a seven sided dice.

I’ve never actually seen one in person.

~≈Í≈~

I have to admit, I’ve had the Today programme on, this morning.

They’ve had an interview with Esther Ghey on, this morning.

After the murder of her trans daugher, Brianna, Esther is campaigning for mindfulness lessons in school: as well toughening up the Online Safety Act.

So it includes provision for banning smartphone ownership for under-16s.

Whether that will work?

I don’t know.

~≈Í≈~

As part of the show?

Today’s episode also included mention of the Deep Web and the Dark Web: and helpful basic definition of the two terms.

Just so you know?

The Deep web is things like your bank account, your Facebook account or your account with your GP’s surgery.

The Deep web is anything that needs a password to access.

The Dark Web?   Is the buried, nasty, stuff: that usually needs specialist software — things like TorBrowser or Freenet — to access.

I don’t know if that’s any help.

But an old line from Blue Street Blues springs to mind, if it’s something you want to look at.

“Be careful out there!”

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th February 2023.

15th February, 2023.

Right … I now, officially, have a box!

With a chair in it!

It’s an early birthday gift: and one I plan to assemble … when I get the chance.

It’s going to be a fiddly job, I think!

~≈®≈~

I mentioned, yesterday, that my blu-ray drive was having issues.

But, ever since the macOS 13.2 update, it was happily connected to my Mac … but not showing up.

It seems a few others had been getting the issue: and were reporting it on various sites.

Fortunately for me — and, I suspect, anyone else with a Pioneer optical drive — the problem was fixed: by installing the macOS 13.2.1 update.

I suspect the amount of complaints would have got Apple moving to patch the flaw, fast: there’s possibly a lot of customers — movie companies, included — using Mac systems to make preview blu-rays, if nothing else.

Here’s hoping it doesn’t happen, again.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife — A Review

15th February, 2022.

Right … It’s a Tuesday night: vegetables are boiling, and potatoes roasting.

They’ll be accompanying stew.

Beef stew.   So you know.

At any rate … ?   I’ll be watching a movie, tonight: and will have this written review — the one you’re reading now — up tomorrow night.

Along with its video equivalent.

I have to admit: I’ve got a very good idea of what I’m going to watch: the recent death of Ivan Reitman, director of the two original films?

Got me thinking that Ghostbusters: Afterlife would be just the thing.

More, tomorrow night …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-2-2022: The Calendar.

15th February, 2022.

Right …

I’ve got a meeting, tomorrow: with my case worker from the work programme I’m on.

Which means … ?

Frankly, I have to ask them for a train ticket.

It seems that, if you have no cash, they’ll pay for it, in advance: and let you pick it up from the relevant station.

Assuming you have acceptable ID: which I do.

I sent the email, first thing.

Hopefully?

That will be a relatively painless process.

But I’d’ve been comfortable, knowing that the process worked.

Or that the people running the scheme were more flexible on dates.

We’ll have to see.

~≈§≈~

Just as a thought … ?   My nephew was over, yesterday: and managed to get another video, done.

Cleverly?

He managed to note which games was which: and when the goals were.

Which is handy, if you’re the one adding sound effects!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-2-2021: Serbia

15th February, 2021.

Argh!

I feel knackered …

But there you go: that’s happens when you’re up all night, blogging — and vlogging — about a TV show you like.

I’m not getting any younger!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th February 2020.

15th February, 2020.

Yep: it’s true.

The UK’s going to be hit by Storm Dennis: from roughly twelve o’clock, today.

I’m not too worried about my part of the world.

But … ?

Two weekends like this is a touch worrying.

~≈†≈~

Just as a quick bit of technology news?

It seems Twitter have now come up with a plug to block … um … unwanted nudes.

Dick pics, in other words.

Well done, them: the amount of times I hear complaints about it, I’m surprised on one’s done it sooner.

~≈†≈~

Remember me mentioning — a few days ago — that there was a possibility I’d be getting a cheap laptop for my upcoming birthday?   And that I’d be putting Ubuntu on the thing?

By a weird coincidence, and old friend contacted me, last night.

Wanting the same thing.

If that goes ahead, we may have to dual boot the thing: the one game they do want to keep?

Is Windows only.

Which is a little bit inconsiderate of the game’s makers: but there you go.

Now …

Has anyone seen my Ubuntu Budgie installer?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15th February, 2018

15th February, 2018.

Where on EARTH, do I start … ?

No, really, where … ?

Well, for starters?

My phone’s gone and bloody well died!

Which is bloody annoying.

Frankly, I really don’t need the expense of buying a new one: whether I get it from CeX, or somewhere pricier.

It’s all …

Well …

Annoying!

~≈§≈~

On the OTHER hand …

On the other hand, I’ve got a secret admirer … !

Someone at work, it seems.

I’ve even got half an idea of whom: and bless, it’s a nice gesture from someone who’s happily spoken for!

Half my age, very attractive, bright as a button … and happily spoken for!

Either way, I can’t complain too much!

It is a nice gesture …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 15-2-2017

Hmmm …

That’s a little disappointing …

Did I tell You I sent a Valentine‘s Day card … ?

I sent a Valentine’s Day card.

Turns out it was unwelcome.

It was cruel, mean, and the lady concerned is bloody angry!

I’m a little put out, to say the least: that WAS the first I’d ever sent.

I think it’s the last time I’ll be sending one of those … !

The Thing 2011: Sometimes, we should leave well enough alone …

15th February, 2012.

Hmmm …

I’ll be honest, it’s not THAT often I mix me posts up, it really isn’t.

But I thought I’d quietly let you know I’ve just a friend, Karen Chilvers, on Brentwood’s local radio station, speaking about the local council and how local councillors REALLY don’t seem to be a working as hard as they could be.

And putting in what I thought was a rather good showing.

Hopefully, that SHOULD serve her well: considering she’s standing for re-election as a Brentwood West Councillor, on May 3rd of this year.
