Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th June 2026.

17th June, 2026.

Right … I’m officially off into town, again, today.

I have to pick up more medications.

Or, at least, medical kit: I have some lancets to pick up.

And I have to post some test results off: the results of my most recent bowel cancer screen.

Hopefully, I’ll be free of any polyps, this time around: the ensuing colonoscopy isn’t exactly fun.

But?

Both the test, and the procedure, help you cancer-free.

However uncomfortable the latter procedure is, it prevents any future problems.

That’s all to the good.

Did I mention I’ve caught the first three episodes of Apple TV series, Slow Horses?

I’ve caught the first three episodes of Apple TV spy drama, Slow Horses!

I don’t know that the terminology is accurate: MI5 staff are officers, rather than agents, as far as I know.

But it puts me in mind of Sir Terry Pratchett’s Watch novels.

Both are about a bunch of utter incompetents, utter whittles, as Sir Terry put it, who are redeemed over the course of an series.

And each is as entertaining as the other.

Although Sam Vimes … doesn’t fart like Jackson Lamb!

If you want a team leader you can call ‘flatulent’, the Gary Oldman character is a very good example!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th June 2025.

17th June, 2025.

Right …

Going by yesterday’s weight management meeting?

I’ve put on another 300 grams!

That was unexpected: I was hoping to have maintained my weight, if not lost.

I have a nasty feeling I’m going to have to do more exercise.

Not something I’m looking forward to: not going up the hills around here.

~≈🧗≈~

Especially as I had plenty of exercise, yesterday: walking to hospital to do another set of diabetic blood tests.

Thankfully?

I remembered to not leave my spectacles, there, this time.

Hopefully?

That’s a good sign: one that hopefully means the results will reach the surgery, this time!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th June 2024

17th June, 2024.

It’s officially Monday.

And?

I’m up early, again!

I’m off to my usual weight management meeting!

Here’s hoping I can sustain last week’s loss!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-6-2023 — Igor.

17th June, 2023: Igor.

Yep: it’s officially Saturday.

A day for stuff to be done.

Including?

Finishing my review of the first episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds, series two.

Oh, and worrying.

I was due to have a meeting at the Job centre, on the 29th.

Which has been cancelled: with no replacement meeting, scheduled.

And no message about why it’s been cancelled, nor what — if anything — I’m supposed to be doing.

Worry?

Yes, I think I shall …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th June, 2022

17th June, 2022.

Right … it’s Friday: and … ?

Well, I’ve managed to post off the forms I need for the appeal.

Which?

Frankly cost a fortune.

At least, a fortune on my money.

I’ll probably also need to have a word with my GP: and ask her to do me a letter about the appeal.

Here’s hoping the thing goes through as fast as possible.

~≈§≈~

Oh, my nephew, Jude, was over, yesterday.

Apparently?   Some of his friends have seen my Marmite unboxing video: and think it’s really strange.

So long as I get a few extra views, I’m not complaining!

Yes: he also managed to make another video: this time, about a recent game of foot pool, at Centre Parcs.

Feel free to hit like, and share!

If you’re a pensioner in the UK, you’ve got problems: but you knew that, any way.

According to a BBC report, today?

It seems that the computer systems running the UK’s state pension system?

Have been over and under payment pensioners: by about a penny or two a week.

Since the 1990s.

The 1990s!

What’s possibly going to make that worse?

Is that the Department of Work and Pensions, the department that relies on and runs the system?

Knew about this.   And decided it would be to complicated to fix … in 2002.

Assuming the system’s underpaid a pension by a penny a week?

That’s fifty-two pence a year.

And £10·40p since 2002.

Spread over several thousand pensioners, that’s a lot of money.

I’ve got to ask: if the DWP’s computer systems are doing this to pensions … what the hell are the doing to other benefits?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th June, 2021

17th June, 2021.

Yes: it’s officially.

The day I think going out to get a loaf — or possibly some milk — is a good idea?

It’s raining.

Well …

At least … it’s rained over night: and threatening more.

All this when you’re expecting a phone call from your GP’s surgery?

Well …

~≈Ë≈~

Oh … just as a quick thought … ?

Piers, bless him, has had another article published: about the issues we’re having with phone masts in the area.

You can find it, here.

Hopefully?

His piece about the keys will also be published soon.

~≈Ë≈~

Oh, I’ve JUST had the duty doctor from my surgery, phone.   She’s going to get the in-house pharmacist to call me, to discuss my sugar levels.

She’s also upping my thyroid medication: to 150mg a day.

Hopefully, that will help with the weight loss!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th June, 2020.

17th June, 2020.

Oh, LORD, but’s it ’s been a morning … already … !

I’ve managed to switch on my computer, this morning, and connect my keyboard to a charging cable …

And mess my screens up in the process!

It took half ban hour, and a lot of swearing, to get things back to normal.

That’s on top of yesterday: where my mobile started acting up.

What’s gone wrong, there … ?

Is quite simple: the local phone mast has gone down.

When you consider I’ve two voice messages I can’t get to, because of this … ?

And that I’m supposed to have a swab test, today, arranged over the mobile?

I’m not having a good morning, and it’s only two hours old … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th June, 2019.

17th June, 2019

Wouldn’t you know it … ?

I have to go back to hospital!

Remember, a week or two ago, I had to go to Basildon Hospital: to pick up a gadget to test my overnight blood oxygen levels?

The results?

Were inconclusive … !

So … I have to go back: to get another bit of kick, and do another overnight test …

~≈§≈~

In the mean time … ?

I can get good and buried: into a TV show!

Although, right now, Game of Thrones has finished: and I’m going to be watching the last episode of the incredible El Ministerio del Tiempo.

Frankly?   I’m hoping the Game of Thrones prequel goes through: although I think it’s a shame the Benioff and Weiss planned Confederate didn’t.   I can appreciate it wasn’t a popular idea: but still think it sounded like an interesting story to tell.

I’m also looking forward to the last El Ministerio del Tiempo.

Yes, it’s the last of the current series.

But there is talk of a fourth.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-6-2018: Our Ken.

17th June, 2018.

Thai food …

Yep: it was another family night out.

And, yep: at a local Thai restaurant: part off a chain called Lemongrass.

Something I have to admit I was slightly unsure of: as I’d never had Thai food.

I went with the relatively mild sounding Weeping Ang … Weeping Tiger … !

Basically?   Steak with tamarind sauce.   Kind of like a very sweet soy sauce, if you can imagine such a thing.

Hmmm …

I THINK I was impressed: impressed enough to want to go again.

Dr Who — Series 10: Episode 10 — The Eaters of Light

17th June, 2017.

Did I ever tell you I have windows?

No, I’m not doing the dirty, and suddenly bough a Windows based PC: good gods, no!

Nope, Mac fan still, thank you … !

No … I meant windows in my flat.

Some of which?   Are south facing.   They catch the sun, in other words.

And on one of the hottest days of the year, so far?

You can bet I’m glad I opened them.

Frankly?

Watching The Eaters of Light, this weeks episode of Dr Who, with them shut?

Would’ve meant getting just a little bit … you know … sweaty … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-6-2017

You know, in all the recent news?

In all the recent bad news, it’s oh-so-easy to overlook the sad news, it really is.

Adam West, the original TV Batman?

Died last week.

His death — the original Batman, and certainly the one I grew up with — has been marked in LA in possibly the only way it could.

With the Bat Signal.

RIP, Adam!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-6-2016: Nova Albion

Good lord …

What the hell happened, there?

I don’t know if you’ve been following the UK news, but yesterday saw the death of Jo Cox: MP for Batley and Spen.

She was shot.

And stabbed.

By someone who’d apparently yelled ‘Put Britain first,’ as he was putting a bullet through her.

Personally … ?

My thoughts are with her family at this time.

~≈Â≈~

Equally personally … ?

I have to ask, what on EARTH happened, there?

Right at the moment?

Right at the moment, I wondering … well, several things.

But mainly, what motivated her killer.

I note from her obituary, Mrs Cox‡ was part of the Remain campaign: supported staying in the EU.

I also note that the killer, apparently, used that ‘Put Britain first’ phrase.

And can’t help but ask if that was the motivation.

It seems likely to me: but we won’t necessarily know, until police release more details.

~≈Â≈~

I’m also thinking something else.

For starters?   These past few weeks, I’ve become more inclined to vote leave: feeling that the issue of sovereignty — the amount of control Britain hands to the EU — is the main one for me.

I don’t like the idea that a lot of UK law is made in Brussels.

But?   I’m ALSO aware that someone getting shot, because they’re supporting Remain?

Got me thinking I should vote Remain.

I CANNOT support Leave, knowing someone has killed in support of that side of the argument.

~≈Â≈~

I’m ALSO wondering what the Leave and Remain campaigns will make something of this.

Would be wondering how to exploit Mrs Cox’s death.

Yes, I know that would be bad taste.

But is it as bad as pulling a trigger on a mother of two?
