But I managed to bin it, and empty the bin, before Time Machine managed to back up my system, and save it.

The BBC’s been covering it all morning.

Seemingly?

Sky TV are to start broadcasting a UK version of the venerable US comedy series, Saturday Night Live: and are assembling the team as we speak.

It may do well … 

But … ?

I think Saturday Live/Friday Night Live— the UK series that made stars out of many UK comics — has been forgotten in all the excitement.

You’ll remember I’ve objections to the Government’s proposed Digital ID scheme?

I’ve objections to the Government’s proposed Digital ID scheme: mostly based on cost.

There’s some good news about it: the petition on the UK government’s website has had something of an effect.

The proposal will be discussed in the House of Commons on 8th December, this year.

Hopefully, the whole silly idea will be scrapped.

Right … 

It’s officially official: I’ve had my ’flu jab.

After a lot of faffing about!

I was due to have it as part of a double jab: a couple of weeks ago.

Except, of course, they’d run out of the vaccine!

Which lead to a lot of frantic scrabbling around: including getting a text message from my surgery, yesterday, informing me there were appointments available to have the jab … in early October of 2024.

Ho-hum!

At any rate … ?

It turned out I’m also eligible for the pneumonia jab: which I’m going to have to re-arrange, as I’ve double booked it.

For the same day as my diabetes blood tests.

‘Frantic’ is possibly not the word: but at least I know why I have an earworm …

14th November, 2023: World Diabetes Day.

Right … it’s now Tuesday … and I have a heavy sense of Deja Vu.

You’ll remember former Prime Minister, David Cameron?

The Tory PM who put the country through the referendum that saw us leaving the European Union?

In possibly the biggest cock-up of his career.

You’d think that — after his resignation, and being replaced as an MP? — he’d not want to get involved with politics again.

He didn’t.

Until yesterday.

When the current Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, appointed him to a seat in the House of Lords, and then as Foreign Secretary.

Beyond calling him Ricochet Dave?

I have to admit to being mildly concerned.

He’s an MP, a Member of Parliament: in the sense that he’s now a life peer, and member of the House of Lords.

But not a MP, not a member of the House of Commons, as his boss, PM Rishi Sunak.

That means that — as Foreign Secretary — he can’t enter the House of Commons, where his boss, the PM, and his fellow cabinet members sit.

He won’t face questions from the House, nor the opposition.

It’s been done before: Lord Carington, Mrs Thatcher’s Foreign Secretary, was a member of the Lords.

Quite how that works, I don’t know.

In one sense?

It’s a good thing for the current PM: he gets an experienced cabinet member, with an international reputation.

And who can offer advise on the job of Prime Minister.

That he can fire at any time.

On the down side?

Cameron is not accountable to the House of Commons*: nor can he be voted out of office.

That’s concerning.

Right at the moment … ?

It’s a Monday night.

And I’ve got potatoes on the go.

Potatoes, vegetables … and chicken.

I’m going for healthy eating, frankly.

At any rate … ?

It’s Monday.

And I’m going to be eating dinner, listening to I’m Sorry, I Haven’t a Clue … 

Then watching the next episode of classic Dr Who serial, The Abominable Snowmen.

Hopefully?

There’ll be a game of Mornington Crescent in the offing!

Yep: it’s Monday.

And, if I’m late posting this … ?

It’s because I’ve just had a phone meeting with my physio-therapist, and sent up another.

So that’s all good.

I’ve also got a reminder set up on my TV.

The new series of I’m Sorry, I Haven’t a Clue starts, tonight, and I’d hate to miss it.

I can only hope there’s a game of Mornington Crescent: it’s been scandalously missing!

Star Trek Discovery — Series 3 Episode 2 — Far from Home — A Review

Right … 

It’s a Saturday night: and I’ve just spent the past few minutes, filling in forms on the NHS website.

No, I’m, not going to tell you why: frankly, I’d prefer to keep that one to myself.

It’s one of those rare, slightly embarrassing ones.

And, believe me, there’s not much that embarrasses me!

At any rate … ?

It’s Saturday: and I’ve just seen another episode of Star Trek: Discovery, Series three.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th November, 2020.

Right … 

I think we can safely say I’ve upgraded to macOS 11 Big Sur.

Unusually?   The actual version number is 11.0.1: rather than 11.0, which is what I was expecting.

Why?   I couldn’t tell you.

Secondly?   The actual process was a touch more fraught than earlier updates I’ve done.

For starters, the Big Sur Installer weighed in at some twelve gigabytes: two to two and a half gigabytes bigger than the Catalina installer.

It also needed to have a lot more space to do its job: I had to delete various unused apps, photos and songs to make space.

And transfer my Photos and Music libraries to an external drive to give the installer room to room.

Then shift them back once Big Sur was installed.

The process — once that was done — was nerve wracking … but as relatively painless as ever.

Thus far … ?

This far, Big Sur’s a pleasure to use.

For starters, it sees the return of the Mac start up chime: people have been complaining about that, since 2016’s release of macOS Sierra.

The wallpaper is loud: but easily replaced through System Preferences: I’m using a dynamic shot of the Big Sur Coast.

The biggest differences?

Are in the immediate look and feel of user interface: there’s a lot more corners, the alerts are a lot funkier, and somehow, pictures seem a little sharper.

Some of the apps are a little laggy: but not much more so than under Catalina.

Handbrake, vlc and Transmission — some of my most used non-Apple apps — seem to be working well.

Granted, I’ve not used MakeMKV to tip anything as yet: I won’t know how it’s working, until I do.

Keynote, Pages, GarageBand, Numbers and iMovie have also been updated.

I haven’t used Keynote or Numbers, as yet: but judging by iMovie and Pages, they should work well enough.

GarageBand I’ve not used.   I’m not exactly musical!

So far?

Big Sur’s a pleasure to work with, especially on my Intel-based iMac.

Were I one of the new, ARM based Macs?

I couldn’t tell you what my experience would be like.

I’m possibly going to start having to save up for one of them, though: much as they did with the shift from Motorola chips, to PPC, and PPC to Intel chips?

At some point, they’ll stop supporting this machine.

Here’s hoping.

Yes: it’s a potentially quiet day, today.

Depending on whether I’m needed to look after my nephew.   He get’s loud, bless him!

At any rate … ?

It’s going to be a quiet day of job hunting: checking emails, and the various job boards.

If nothing else?

I can happily report I had a phone interview, yesterday*: and another, tomorrow.

I’m hoping for one thing: that they bag me a job.

The Godfather: A Review

Yes … 

It’s another night as a gentleman of leisure.

As you’ve possibly guessed.

Right at the moment,  I’m off work: and job hunting.

And worrying like hell about where my next bit of cash is coming from.

Cash?

Hell, worrying about my next meal is on the proverbial menu, as well.

Not that worry is doing me much good, right now.

Once unemployment kicks in long term … ?

Well, that’s when I’ll start having issues: health AND financial.

At any rate?

I’ve been keeping myself occupied job hunting: and am thinking that heading into Romford, or Billericay, handing out my CV could be good.

Or bad, depending.

I’m ALSO thinking — as I have, so many times before — that putting my CV on this blog could be good.

Or bad.

I might just have to ask my work coach: the job centre appointed mentor who’s supposed to suggest options for me to explore.

It might be an idea.

At any rate, I’ve job hunting keeping me busy.

AND the usual teasing writing, laundry, cleaning … 

And as I have some free nights … ?



Catching up with a movie or two seems an idea.

Given the subjects of today’s Teaser?   Tha Apalachin Meeting?

Something nefarious seemed in order.

Some with suspicious looking Italian Americans.

14th November, 2018.

My hair is quite definitely a mess.

Which possibly means just the one thing, at the moment.

I’m going to have to wait for it.

As you’ll possibly know, by now?

I’m job-hunting: just started job-hunting, in fact.

So, right now?

I’m waiting to hear about any benefits I’m due: including when the first payment will get to me.

AND start the process of putting in any hardship payments.

AND moving various payments around. 

And … and … and … 

It’s an eternal and, frankly.

That … 

On top of the gap between my last wages from work — on Friday — and my first, full benefit payments.

Well … 

Time to get a move on …

Spin offs … 

Spin offs, spin-offs spins … !

You have to wonder about the amount of them, don’t you … ?

I mean … the Marvel movies are all over the place.

DC are trying to do the same thing with their franchise.

Star Wars has been going since the late 1970s: and looks like it’s growing more legs, when Rogue One is released.

Saying that … ?   Saying that, Star Wars ALSO saw the Star Wars Holiday Special released: a couple of years after the first film.

I wouldn’t mind seeing that.   JUST to see if it really is as bad as its reputation says it is.

By all accounts?

Marvin, I Love You, as cheesy* as that was?   Has a better reputation …
