Hmmm … 

That seems to work … 

I’ve subscribed to Apple’s Creator Studio, just recently: and found out that I could use a mix of Final Cut Pro, and Compressor, to make 8k video.

So … ?

I used the stock footage I keep for the quiz videos to make a dummy 8k video I could share via YouTube.

The results told me a few things.

Firstly?

When I upload an 8k video to the site, YouTube reduces the resolution to 4k.

The copy I’ve just downloaded?

Is some forty megabytes: compared to the approximately two gigabytes I uploaded.

I’m assuming the reductions are made, to allow YouTube to keep storage space and bandwidth — and thus costs — to a minimum.

Secondly?

It took ten minutes to render some three minutes of 8k footage.

I’d say that’s acceptable: but know longer videos will take longer to render.

I’m also aware the process had my machine running extremely hot to the touch: something I’m aware would happen, given my machine’s specs.

It’s got an M4 processor, and sixteen gigabytes of RAM, so you know.

The suggested, minimum, RAM is exactly that: sixteen gigabytes,

But the recommended minimum is thirty-two.

I can only tell you this, as a result.

Recording, and rendering, in 8k is something I’d love to do.

But would need machinery, and money, I don’t have.

That’s a shame: but that’s life.

Which is an odd way of saying I’ve had my Mounjaro injection, but there you go.

At any rate: I’m up early, as my neighbourhood officer is due to visit.

To assess whether lowering the kitchen cupboards is a good idea, and makes my flat safer.

Although I think my landlords prefer the word ‘affordable’.

You’re possibly aware, then, that Sir Keir Starmer, the UK’s Prime Minister, visited the US President, yesterday.

I turned off the news coverage: there’s only so much creepiness I can cope with.

But … ?

I know that the PM’s invited the President to the UK: for a state visit.

Which frankly means I’ll be doing stuff.

Trying to sell my sister’s laptop!

I’ve had JUST enough cash to spend a little — a very little — on a Facebook Boost for it.

And I’ve listed it on Craigslist.

Hopefully, that will help.

As will listing it on Gumtree.

I’ll have to try and do that, today!

Yay!

I’ve managed to finish it!

Finish what, I hear you ask.

My most recent review: of ‘Happy Valley*,’ the fourth episode of For All Mankind.

That’s an episode with one hell of a cliff hanger.

And one hell of a villain: I can’t but think the character’s loosely based on Steve Jobs.

Let’s face it, he — and the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Bill Gates and Alan Sugar — can be as charismatic as the want … but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re nice …

I’m something of a Terry Pratchett fan: buying everything he wrote over the course of many years.

They’re on a shelf in the bedroom, so you know.

And was saddened by the news of his Alzheimer’s, and his eventual death.

There was no more Discworld novels to come: especially as his will specified that unfinished work was to be destroyed.

By a steam roller.

Yesterday, however?

The BBC news announced that several published short stories were to be republished, this October.

I think I’m going to have to save up for that.

Unless someone want’s to buy me a really late birthday present … !

You’re following the news, aren’t you … ?

You’ll know about the situation in the Ukraine: the country’s been invaded by Russia.

I’ve got the Today programme on in the background: and, as you possibly could guess?

It’s non-stop Ukraine coverage.

They’ve even had a former Duma member called Sergei Markov: whose been asked directly about Mr Putin’s claims he’s invading to get rid of Ukrainian Neo-Nazis, and reminded President Zelenskyy’s Jewish.

According to Dr Markov?   Zelenskyy’s a Neo Nazi Puppet.

To paraphrase Mandy Rice-Davies?   He would say that …

At any rate?

A couple of pieces of news caught my attention, yesterday.

First?

Britain’s Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, has said she would support British nationals volunteering to fight in Ukraine.   Apparently, Ukraine’s setting up an International Legion if foreign volunteers wish to join.

Personally?   I hope that, if people from the UK do so?   I hope that no-one from the British Armed forces does.

My very limited understanding of these things tells me that could cause problems.

Regular, official, British Army troops in the Ukraine?   However unofficially?

Well … 

That could give Russia’s leadership an excuse for all sorts of things.

Which brings me to the next bit of news I noticed.

The worrying bit.

Yesterday saw Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, put their nuclear deterrence forces on alert.

Because of aggressive statements from the West.

Nuclear weapons.

I think we can start to worry … if Mr Putin’s happy to drop nuclear weapons into the conversation.

Let’s hope he doesn’t drop nuclear weapons onto a city …

Hmmm … 

I’m off to work, today.

You’d possibly worked that out, hadn’t you … ?

Thankfully?   I’ve got two days off, this week: tomorrow and Thursday.   AND some annual leave at the weekend.

And, luckily?   I’ve been able to make my hours up, by volunteering to do some extra hours: both today and Friday.

I’ve little actual money to spend … 

But, hey … you can’t have everything … !

The Daily Teaser — 28-2-2016: Waco …

You know, it’s a Sunday.   And, thankfully … ?

It’s one I’m thankful I’ve got off.

Mainly … ?   Well, mainly, it means I can see my family: I get to see my nephew, Jude, as well.

It also means I can start organising ripping DVDs for my sister, Ruth.   Happily … ?   I’ve actually managed to persuade one member of my family that you don’t actually need a DVD to watch a movie.

What else am I doing … ?

Oh yeah … !

Shopping.

Which is going to be fun, considering how bloody cold it is, out there!

I’d better make sure I’m wearing a jumper …
