Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th July 2026

14th July, 2026.

OK … it’s Tuesday.

Which hopefully means I’ll be watching the next episode of For All Mankind, tonight.

Once my nephew’s gone home.

Here’s hoping!

~≈🚀≈~

Ann Widdecombe’s recent death is being investigated by Cornish police.

Or had been.

The suspect was being questioned on charges of murder … but is now being investigated on various counter-terrorism charges.

The public’s been asked not to speculate on the case: but I doubt that’s going to stop people.

Me in particular!

Right now … ?   I’m wondering what sort of extremist the suspect is: left wing, or right wing?

I can’t see a radical right-wing thug* trying to kill her: I can’t see them targeting someone who was a socially conservative, Euro-sceptic.

But, just as equally?

I can’t see loony left environmentalists targeting the late Miss Widdecombe.

They usually just throw paint at pictures.

We’ll probably never know: until the suspect is tried …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring ten out of ten, and Mum on eight.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        14th July is Bastille Day.   Where: France, South Africa or the USA?

Q2)        14th July is North Korean Defectors Day.   Where: North Korea or South Korea?

Q3)        14th July is the feast day of Saint Francis Solanus.   He’s the patron saint of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.   And where else: Venezuela, Uruguay or Peru?

Q4)        14th July is Victoria Day.   The Victoria in question is the Crown Princess of where: Denmark, Sweden or Norway?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Fauja Singh died on 14th July, 2025.   He’d found fame as a what: chef, marathon runner or cheese maker?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        “I Don’t Like Mondays” was released on 13th July.   In which year of the 1970s?
A1)        1979.

Q2)        “I Don’t Like Mondays” was released on 13th July.   By which Irish band?
A2)        The Boomtown Rats.

Q3)        The song was from which of the band’s LPs: A Tonic for the Troops, The Fine Art of Surfacing or Mondo Bongo?
A3)        The Fine Art of Surfacing.

Q4)        The song was co-written by the band’s lead singer.   Who was that singer?
A4)        Bob Geldof.

Q5)        The song was co-written by band-member, Johnny Fingers.   Fingers played what: guitar, drums or piano?
A5)        Piano.

Q6)        The band performed the song on 13th July, 1985.   At which famous concert?
A6)        Live Aid.   I noticed the co-incidence, when writing last year’s Live Aid teaser.

Q7)        David Mallet did what for “I Don’t Like Mondays”: produce the record, design the cover or direct the video?
A7)        Direct the video.   (If I recall Geldof’s autobiography, correctly, Mallet was influenced by Village of the Damned.)

Q8)        Phil Wainman did what for “I Don’t Like Mondays”: produce the record, design the cover or direct the video?
A8)        Produce the record.

Q9)        The song was written whilst the band were on tour, where: Canada, the USA or Mexico?
A9)        The USA.

Q10)        Finally … ?   The song was inspired by a what: serial killer, school shooting or a mafia hit?
A10)        A School shooting.   When asked why she did it, the shooter said “I don’t like Mondays.   This livens up the day.”   I don’t know if her actions were the USA’s first school shooting.   But — thanks to the song — it was the first we’d’ve heard of in the UK.   (I have distinct memories of a schoolfriend telling me about the backstory.)
Here’s a thought …
“I’m an actor.   Not at the exclusion of other things — I’m also director or a limousine driver, if need be.   But nothing is as thrilling to me as doing an actor’s work.”
Jackie Earle Haley, born July 14, 1961.
And a song …

The next 10 question sets are on 30th July, and 11th August: they’re about the Beano and World Steel Pan Day.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I’m very aware there’s a thread of anti-Catholic bias in the UK: that could well take against a known Catholic.   Would that make someone murder her?   I hope not …

†        Hello, Mum!   (It was The Fine Art of Surfacing, Mum: and Phil Wainman produced the recond, rather than designed the cover.)

The next ten question set’s on the 30th, Debbi: so there’s a bit of a rest coming up.
