Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-11-2026 — Nine-Eleven (Ten Questions)

11th September, 2026: Nine Eleven.

Hmmm …

The picture’s uploaded.

Given yesterday’s mess*?

I’m pleasantly surprised!

~≈📷≈~

I can remember where I was, when the Nine-Eleven attacks took place.

And no: it’s still not somewhere I’m going to be telling you about.

But I can remember seeing the shocking footage on TV: of planes being flown, deliberately flown, into buildings.

And remember my first thought.

“I hope that’s local!”

The Oklahoma bombings, carried out by right wing, American, extremists, had only taken place a few years earlier.

So my first thought, again?

“I hope that’s local!”

“I hope”, I said to myself, “that’s local!”

“Because if that’s a bunch of keffiyeh-wearing nutters in the Middle-East, there’s going to be hell to pay.”

Lo, and behold …

~≈✈️≈~

The reason I mention this … ?

Is simple: that today marks the 25th Anniversary of the attacks.

Something I’m marking with a ten-question quiz set that’s — hopefully — respectful of the lives lost.

Much as I didn’t like George W. Bush, and didn’t like British involvement with the subsequent US military action?

I think President Bush’s initial responses were … Presidential.

Were considered, appropriate, and very responsive to the gravity of the situation.

The current president, the 47th President?

I note a few things about the 47th President.

He’s going to be marking the Anniversary at the Pentagon: unlike the other surviving presidents, who will be in New York.

The man should be ashamed of himself: he’s a New Yorker, and should be there, today of all days.

That’s one thing.

The other … ?

Is a simple hope.

That the 47th President won’t be near a microphone, today.

My impression of the man tells me he’s going to open his mouth and say something …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-9-2021: The Day The World Changed

11th September, 2021.

Right … it’s a Saturday morning: one that — looking out of the window — looking distinctly overcast.

Hopefully?   And much like yesterday?

I’ll avoid any potential rain.

~≈💧≈~

You know, I’m willing to bet people are going to whinge.

About money, and prices.   I know I do.

So, of course, I couldn’t help but notice the news.

3 — the mobile phone providers — are to re-introduce roaming charges to any UK customer travelling in the EU.

And that PayPal are to raise charges for UK customers, sending money to, or receiving money from, the EU area.

I’m willing to bet many who voted Leave, in the 2016 Referendum, are complaining.

“We voted for freedom,” many would say.

Well, yes.

But, from the little I’ve understood?

It also means a lack of food on the shelves: because there’s a lack of European lorry drivers living in the UK.

And prices going up: because dealing with Europe mean paying extra charges.

Frankly?

We should have stayed in.

And should maybe rejoin.

Frankly, anything that put prices down is a good thing.

The Daily Teaser — 11-9-2013: The Day The World Changed

Wouldn’t you know it … ?

Somehow, I’ve woken up, this morning, with one hell of an ear-worm going through my head.

Linton Kwesi Johnson’s Reality Poem, from his Forces Of Victory.

Which is possibly a very appropriate piece to have going through my head: given today’s date.

Hmmm …

Let’s give the man a turn, shall we?

And move on …

~≈Ω≈~

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: along with letting me know she’ll be letting me know, she also bagged five out of six.

*        It certainly does, at that, Debbi … !

Friday, 13 November 2009

Dear Lord, preserve us …

I’ve just seen the news …

And I’m thinking …

Well …

Lot’s of things …

Memories, for the most part, of one of the most shocking things I think I ever saw on a TV screen.

The 11th September attacks …

Dear lord, 9/11 …

The 11th of September, 2001, was one of those shockingly big world changing events is imprinted on peoples minds, memories, hearts, what-ever.

The old cliqué comes to mind; that some things are so big, that we remember where we were, when they happened.

9/11, I think, was one of those …

So the news I’ve just seen announced on the BBC’s 10 O’Clock News is … hmmm … eye-catching, lets put it that way.

That Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, along with four others, currently held at Guantanamo Bay, are to be tried — in New York — for organising the 9/11 attacks.

I’m feeling thoughtful.

Especially in light of both Attorney General Holder and President Barack Obama’s stated view that the death penalty should be sought.

I can understand that.

And be honest enough to admit that, were I a relative of one of the victims, or the average American on the street, I’d probably be right behind the idea.

I know the fact that they’ll be tried before a civilian — and public — court is one I fully agree with; after all, it was civilians that made up the bulk of the victims; granted, the trial’s scheduled to be held in New York, but …

But, here and now, the simple fact that both President Obama and the District Attorney have said they want the death penalty is — to me — worrying.

Part of that is simply the fact that I’ve grown up in a country that has no official death penalty. I’ve always felt it to be no way to deal justice.

Revenge, certainly, but justice?

No.

And that’s compounded by the simple fact that we’re talking about a group of people who belong to a movement that values one thing, as part of their take on Islam.

Martyrdom.

Martyrdom

Great, big, powerful word, that, martyrdom.

Noted US lawyer, Ron Kuby, has just been interviewed on BBC News 24, and said that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed has indicated that he would be happy to receive a death sentence, from the US.

He may well have a death wish.

Or be trying to seek some sort of redemption for what he helped to do.

But I’ve a nasty feeling that those who sympathise with, give support to or are members of al-Qæda will have a field day with what the government and people of the USA will call justice.

But I believe al-Qæda and it’s kind will call inspirational.

I’d like to know what you think.

Leave a comment, and your name.
