Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-6-2026 — International Asteroid Day

30th July, 2026: International Asteroid Day.

OK …

It’s a Tuesday morning: and the day after I’ve been to my most recent weigh-in.

And?

And, I hear you ask?

Yes: I’ve officially lost some six hundred grams.

About 1.3 pound, in Imperial.

That’s good: and offsets the 500 gram that my weight had gone up by.

That’s a result.

~≈🏋️‍♂️≈~

Streamed movies and TV shows …

I don’t think we can deny it: streamed entertainment, whether we’re talking about games, movies, music or TV shows, are incredibly entertaining …

And incredibly convenient.

However?

This article, from AV Club, tells us that Sony are to remove roughly 550 titles available from their PlayStation Store.

Despite many customers having purchased theoretically permanent copies.

The removal of those titles, titles people have paid good money for?

Is going to cause resentment.

Especially if — from what the article says — there’s no sign of a potential refund.

And especially when you consider the only effective way of countering this — buying the blu-ray version of a title — means potentially coughing up extra cash for a title you may already own.

Personally, I think that buying blu-rays, and other physical media, is the better option.

Yes: you may well be paying twice.

But yes: you’re not losing access to something you’ve paid for.

Sony, and others, are hardly going to bang on your door and demand ‘their’ property back*.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th June 2025.

30th June, 2025.

Right … it’s Monday morning.

So … ?

I’ve got to go to the high street, twice!

I’ve got a weight management meeting in the morning, and a hygienist appointment, this afternoon.

Hopefully?

I’ll end up having lost weight, and have cleaner teeth.

~≈🪥≈~

Just so everyone knows?

Long time reader, Trevor, is now officially out of hospital: and back at the care home he’s been placed in.

If you want to get in touch … ?

You’ll need to write to him: you can get his address from his sister, Gill.

~≈✉️≈~

There’s been a bit of bother.

You’ll probably have realised that the Glastonbury Festival — Britain’s best known music festival — took place over the weekend.

As one act, Bob Vylan, led chants of “Death to the IDF” during their performance.

I grant you, that’s bad.

But … ?

In calling for various responses, the media is doing something any band loves.

Handing them publicity.

Bands love publicity.

It generates interest, means ticket, and buy records.

So … ?

I have to ask Prime Minister Keir Starmer one thing …

“Why are you giving Bob Vylan, an act that indulges in hate speech, free publicity, Sir Keir?   When I bet you this is the first time most of the country has heard of them.”

I agree, the band’s actions are bad.

But … ?

I suspect the fuss will do their sales a huge favour: just as an earlier fuss handed sales to other bands …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-6-2024 — International Day of Parliamentarism

30th June, 2024: International Day of Parliamentarism.

It’s officially Sunday …

And officially the day after I forgot to poster a letter!

It’s OK: I can post it, today, even though it won’t get picked up until tomorrow.

There’s hoping it get’s dealt with, quickly, at the other end!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-6-2023 — Tunguska

30th June, 2023: Tunguska.

Yes: it’s Friday.

Which means I know what I’m doing, tonight.

Yep: watching another episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

This one looks interesting … !

~≈Δ≈~

I’ve had the Today programme on, this morning.

Rajan, Robinson, Webb, et al, can be informative, at this time of the morning.

One piece that did catch my attention?

Is that the popular sweetener, aspartame, may — may — cause cancer.

That’s … concerning.

Especially if you’re a diabetic who needs to lose weight: and really should avoid sugar!

Frankly?

We’ll have to see what happens, there!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-6-2022: It Took Seconds

30th June, 2022.

Yes: it’s early!

At least, early for me.

I’m in a weight management group — you need to be, if you’re built like me! — and the next meeting?

Is this morning, at ten.

Given I’d finished a review — video and written — late, last night … ?

I’m looking forward to going back to bed!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th June, 2021.

30th June, 2021.

Right: the rat trap is in … as are the gloves.

I’ll be setting that up, later today.

Whilst wearing gloves.   And washing my hands, afterwards.

Obviously.

Once I’ve been to today’s medical appointment: for my annual diabetic eye check.

Hopefully?   The results from that won’t be too bad: although I’m a little concerned.

I’d hate to lose my sight.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-6-2020: Asteroid Day.

30th June, 2020.

Did I mention I have a mobile phone … ?

I’ve got a mobile phone: on O2, so you know.

The week before last?

A local mast went down: meaning I couldn’t make, or accept, calls when at home.

If you’re jobhunting, that can be …

Can be unhelpful: if the mast’s down, there’s a very good chance you can’t receive incoming calls about interviews, or appointments.

Annoying?   Yes!

There was little I could do about it, except wait.

Until, in theory, yesterday.

As that, according to the O2 website, was when we’d hear whether the mast was back in action.

I went back to the site, yesterday.

To find that date had been revised.

We’s now going to find out that will be happening … next Monday.

I’m not happy.

And thinking I should emend some form of compensation.

Especially as O2 have this habit of handing out refunds.

Did you follow my digital poverty pieces?

This, this, this and this?

Broadly, I’m trying to find out how various people are helping those of us who can’t get online: especially with Lockdown in place.

The first piece I did was all about schools.

And I’ve managed to follow that up … by sending an email to the Department for Education.

Last night.

From what I can see, it’ll take three working weeks to hear back from them: at least.

We’ll have to see what happens.

Pt 3: Connections and Prices.

Foreword.

Hi: this is the third in a series about digital poverty.

If you’ve not read part one or two?

You can find Pt One, about schools, here, and Pt two, about job hunting, here.   Pt four, is now available, here.

~≈†≈~

Introduction.

Just to remind you?

My name’s Paul: I’m an unemployed former barman, call centre agent and dogsbody.

One trying to keep himself occupied in Lockdown.

The last of these pieces?

Told you about jobhunting with no internet connection.

This is the third in the series.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th June, 2019

30th June, 2019.

It’s official … I have a quiet day ahead of my.

Well …

Barring Sunday dinner at my family’s place, tonight.

You can bet someone’s going to be noisy …

~≈¥≈~

Something else I know, today … ?

Is that the temperature’s due to hit the 25 ºC mark, today.

Oh, and sunny.

I know perfectly well that’s not as hot as some bits of Europe.

But … ?

Well, I know I’m uncomfortable … !

NikNak’s Daily Teaser — 30th June, 2018

30th June, 2018.

It’s true: it’s another early Saturday start …

And, frankly?

I’m actually felling a bit less knackered that usual.

That’s the benefits of an early night, I think.

~≈§≈~

Were you ever much of a fan of the Smiths?   The band?

I wasn’t.

Although I did buy a few of their early singles.   Morrissey and Marr managed to turn out some great indie pop.

Unfortunately?   Morrissey, the former Smiths frontman, has express some sympathy for former English Defence leader, Tommy Robinson.   AND for right wing party, For Britain: led by former UKIP member, Anne Marie Waters.

He’s made one or two similar comments, before hand.

Not something I’d’ve expected from the world’s best known animal rights activist and vegan.

But given that?

I’m not surprised he’s cancelled some upcoming tour dates.

He’s not said why …

But there were protests planned.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-6-2017

Hmmm …

I’m actually up … after slightly less sleep than usual.

Mostly?

Where I’ve has time off, and managed to catch some TV.

Series one of American Horror Story, so you know.

Fascinatingly grim stuff, I should add.

Hormonal teens, hormonal parents, hormonal 20-somethings, hormonal pensioners.

And that’s before you get to Jessica Lange’s accent!

Come to think of it?

That’s before you get to the living characters!

~≈Â≈~

Oh, on a kind of a technology theme?

Did you ever hear about Britain’s best-selling computer?

You — like me — probably remember things like the ZX Spectrum: Britain’s best seller, at the time.

These day’s?

Britain’s best selling computer is the Raspberry Pi: originally designed as an educational tool, but also doing very well in embedded systems and control units in industry.

Well … ?

It’s won the MacRoberts Prize: Britain’s top engineering prize.

Well down, then!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30-6-2016

That’s it: I’m officially knackered … !

Mind you … ?

I did manage to stay up, late, last night.

Chatting to an old friend, via Facebook Messenger.

That’ll bloody well teach me!

Still …

I’ve one last day off before I go back to work.

Frankly, I can have a nap, later …
