A Slightly Greener Shade of Green …

If that makes sense?

I’m hoping so …

But it’s now official …

Rollason Way — or, at least, Damon House and Watson Court, over the road — now have our Recycling bins, in place.

Sara Bartleman — Circle Anglia’s rep, in the area — told me about this a couple of week’s ago, but, handily, I got reminded about it, when Russell Quirk, the Brentwood Councillor who’s head of the Environmental Committee, reminded me about it, when he came into the shop, the other night.

You know, there are times working in an off-license helps. You certainly catch up with the gossip …

But, at any rate, they’re now now officially in place.

We even had complimentary sacks to put stuff in.

Actually, while we’re on the subject of recycling, I’ve got to admit, I’ve a problem.

I think …

Bless ’er, Sara Bartleman popped in, to have a quiet word about the fridge-freezer.

Mostly, she was concerned about the fact it hadn’t been moved as yet; and that I’d put the fridge-freezer out before making any arrangements.

I had to re-iterate, quite simply, that my Mum’s offered to pay Brentwood Council to shift it; as Mum’s not back ’til the end of the week, that’s going to take a while.

And given the size of the flat, keeping the thing inside wasn’t necessarily an option, either …

Which Sara wasn’t happy with; but, as I told her, on my money, I have little other option.

So what she said, next, caught me attention …

She told me she make the arrangements, herself, to have it transported. Nice of her to offer!

But I’m must confess to being a little concerned. Mostly as I’ve not heard from her, about what’s going on!

Either way, hopefully, I’ll be able to let you know, when it’s getting collected.

Catch you later, folks!

Just as a quick thought … About the Non-Movie Night

You know, I think I owe Will the Manager, a bit of a ‘Thank You’, over at work.

Mostly because he let me borrow the office Sack Barrow, to shift my old — and very unmissed — fridge-freezer out to our block’s bin area. As soon as I’ve got the time, though, I’ll be getting in touch with Brentwood Council, to get them to shift it …

¡ That’ll cost, but … !

Either way, I’ve got to admit, I’ve now officially upgraded to iTunes 9; the one downside to to whole Fridge Freezer palaver is that I wasn’t able to get into London, for the one thing I was planning to treat meself too.

To a copy of the Snow Leopard upgrade disc.

As you can imagine, I’m just a bit peeved, about that!!

Especially as I had one of the regular’s mention today that he’d done the same, himself.

And managed to recover 15gB of Hard-drive space!

Ah-HEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know Apple have been saying they’ve managed to do some trimming, but that’s DAMN good!

Something like that, on my Mini, would be doing the hard drive a big favour, I know that; even when you consider that, when I did the initial boot up of the Mini — only this time, last year — I’d managed to save a some space by not installing the extra dictionaries, printer drivers and extraneous stuff that I didn’t need*.

Even so, that’s a lot of songs.

Or pictures of entertaining pics of young ladies in corsets.

Whatever happens to float your boat!!

The one thing I do know, is that I’m having to use Thunderbird, as Mail.app seems to have developed a glitch, somewhere.

And, to be frank, Thunderbird isn’t as Mac-like as I’d’ve hoped; it doesn’t seem to handle RSS feed with quite the same elegance as Mail.app does, nor does it match the rest of the OS X look and feel.

But, until I get around to re-setting Mail.app’s permissions — or the .plist’s, which is where I suspect the problem is — it’ll do!

* I do know that Dan — who’s an old friend, and something of a Mac Mæstro — also pointed out something, that hadn’t occurred to me. Quite simply that Leopard is the last version of OS X that Apple shipped, that’s compatible with the older ppc processors. Which was Dan’s point; as Snow Leopard only supports Intel Macs, it doesn’t need the ppc code. Bit of space, there, then!

Yayness, on the one hand, AAARRGGHH on the Other …

No, I mean it, it’s been one of those … mixed … days, today.

It really has!

I’ll be frank, the reason local charity, The Lighthouse Project, gets a mention, is because that’s where I’ve just had to buy a new fridge freezer, in a hurry.

They’re not cheap.

But they are cheaper than Argos, who were wanting silly money for an equivalent fridge!

Here’s hoping they deliver as promised, before I go to work, at Ten, tomorrow.

But, well …

There goes the overtime … !

And the morning, seemingly, started so well.

As you‘ve probably guessed, by now, I’m one of the many people who think that computer scientist, Alan Turing, was rather badly let down, after the war.

Let’s face it, the guy was a war hero. If it wasn’t for the work he pioneered, and others took up, we’d’ve not won World War Two.

So finding out, this morning, that Prime Minister Gordon Brown has issued an ‘unreserved apology’ for Turing’s Indecency charges is a bit of good news, for those of us who’ve long felt it to be a bad way to deal with a war hero.

I think some sort of medal’s in order …
