9th June, 2026.

It’s Tuesday, again: doesn’t it come ’round, quickly?

As do visitors.

I’m up early, today: as I’m expecting an engineer from my electricity provider: who will hopefully be able to install a new smart meter.

And transfer the balance from the old account, to the new.

Here’s hoping … !

I had an appointment, yesterday afternoon: with my dentist’s trainee hygienist.

Up until yesterday?

As I’m on benefits, and the hygienists in question are trainees, these had been provided for free.

Unfortunately?

I felt decidedly unwell, heading for the bus-stop: and extremely woozy by the time I got to the surgery.

Woozy enough to immediately cancel the appointment, and rebook.

As far as I can tell?

I had a mixture of a bout of low blood pressure: and what’s known as a ‘hypo’, a dose of low blood sugar.

And really didn’t think sticking around would be a good idea.

So?

I cancelled, and re-arranged for August, the next available date.

Unfortunately, and because of changes?

This means I’m facing a charge for the next appointment: of £41·50.

Something that the receptionist told me is something the university had insisted on: in order to cover their costs.

I can appreciate that.

Especially as, from what I know, the students have to cover their own travel costs.

I’m assuming the university helps with that.

So?

A charge makes sense.

I just wish it didn’t exist: or was cheaper.

That forty-one pounds is steep, on my income.

Right: I’m now awake … !

Early, as always.

It’s Monday: so I’m off to my regular weight management group.

Hopefully?

I’ll’ve lost some weight.

I’ve been plateauing on the same weight for the past three weeks, so I’d like to have lost some!

I think Jude — my nephew — has a hidden talent or two.

We had the inevitable family dinner, last night.

So, Jude being Jude, he brought his laptop: to give himself something to do.

It seems he’s got a musical bent: as he was experimented with a music creation site — it’s called BeepBox — while he was there.

And?

And … ?

He managed to come up with this lot.

I’m mildly impressed … !

Just as a last thoughts … ?

I had a word, last night: from Gill, the sister of long time reader, Trevor.

He’s currently in hospital at the moment: with a Serious urinary tract infection.

Here’s hoping that can be treated, quickly!

Well, I’m running late: it’s been one of those mornings.

But … ?

I managed to visit my chemist — and GP’s — yesterday.

To arrange for replacements for the Ozempic I’ve been using for the past few months.

I’ve now been signed up for one called Trulicity.

Here’s hoping it’s effective.

I like Marmite.   I usually find it economical to but big tubs of the stuff on Amazon.

You can’t get the tubs in the shops.

When the delivery turned up yesterday?   I thought that — given Jude’s posted a successful reaction video — I’d try my hand at something that’s getting equally as successful.

I managed a trip to Romford, yesterday: to trade in a box set at the Romford branch of CeX.

And managed to get a good price for the thing.

Frankly?

That’s all to the good.

Anything that reduces the total cost of ownership is helpful.

In other news … ?

I had my boiler looked at, on Sunday: on an emergency basis.

I managed to chase up the permanent repair.

Apparently?   They’re waiting for a part to turn up: on Thursday or Friday.

Once that’s arrived?   They’ll be calling me to arrange a date.

My only concern, there?

Is whether the engineer would be able to move the thermostat from it’s place in the hallway, to somewhere nearer the boiler: according to the engineer who visited, on Sunday, the signal couldn’t reach.

We’ll have to see …

Right … there’s two things I want to tell you: as quickly as I can, as I’m feeling rushed.

First?

I’m knackered!

But then … ?

I was up late, watching Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.

But then again?   It’s one hell of a series!

The other thing … ?

I have a functioning boiler: after the repairman visited, yesterday.

He had to show me how to get it working, without using the thermostat: as that’s what’s causing the issue.

It’s not connecting to the boiler.

He’s going to be reporting it in: but I’m also going to give my landlord’s a call …

Yes: it’s officially a quiet Sunday morning.

And frankly?

I’m not expecting much more than dinner with my family — Jude will get noisy! — and possibly some interesting TV.

I have to admit, having fun floating around Quora.com.

But, over the past few months?

I’ve been watching the Spanish series, El Ministerio del Tiempo.

Frankly, it’s fantastic: writing, production, cast, absolutely spot on.

And?

I have have to admit, Nacho Fresneda, as Alonso, the hot tempered veteran tercio*?

Is a stunning performance, and — for my money? — the heart of the show … !

Ghostbuster (2016): At least it’s Fun … !

You know, you’d think I’d have something better to do on a Friday night.

Wouldn’t you?

But, right at the mo?

I’m thinking there’s not MUCH I’d want to travel to see.

And frankly?

As I’m sure Old Peculiar regular, Debbi, will tell you, getting up Warley High from Brentwood Station isn’t quite as intimidating as the streets of San Francisco … but doesn’t exactly encourage you to take a nice healthy walk.

Who am I trying to kid?

I fancied a night in from of the telly!

With a couple of games: I’ve got a version of Pacman on the  AppleTV, and someone has long since ported the original Sonic the Hedgehog to the platform.

That’s before you get to the easter egg* version of Snake or Tetris hidden some versions of macOS.

You see what I’m trying to say, here?

I wasn’t planning on heading out.

I was thinking a movie would be nice.

I know — a while back — that a fellow commuter mentioned the rebooted version of Ghostbusters was fun, had me thinking …

Hmmm … 

So that was the 2017 election?

I can’t help but think it was something of a damp squib … 

Right at the moment, though?

It looks like we have a hung parliament: with a chance of a coalition.

Or a minority government.

All I can tell you … ?

Is Brentwood’s still a Tory seat.

Although Labour seem to have done well, in increasing it’s majority.

Time to sit back and watch feathers flying: whilst someone tries to form a government …

Hmmm … 

I don’t know if you follow the news, but I mentioned that the deadline to register to vote in the EU Referendum was midnight on Tuesday: a couple of days ago, now.

Tuesday came and went: as did the deadline.

As did the news — yesterday — that the website had crashed, overloaded by people trying to register at the last minute.

Effectively, it was a jammed switchboard: there was more people trying to phone in, than phones for them to phone in on.

To remedy that?

The deadline’s been extended: with support from both the Government, and from the Electoral Commission.

I tend to think that’s a good thing: the more people vote, the better.

I do know electoral law is a complicated thing: and that legal challenges, on the grounds of Gerrymandering are on-going.

I can’t help but think a couple of things.

Frankly, I think a lot of people could have registered for the referendum a LOT earlier than they did.   That could well have saved a lot of trouble.

I’m ALSO think a couple of other things.

For starters, I think whoever runs the website for the government should maybe have foreseen this happening: and made provision to increase the bandwidth in anticipation of a last minute rush.

I’m also thinking this.   There’s legal challenges already going ahead against the extension.

I think the government, working with the relevant bodies, should modify UK law.   I think we need to have something in place, before the next general elction or referendum, that allows a similar extension the next time something like this happens.

Technology being what it is, I’m sure this will happen again.
