7th August, 2025: The Purple Heart.

Finally … !

I seem to be getting the hang of the blood-sugar monitor I’ve been given.

Washing the hands in warm water, and picking the right finger, definitely helpful!

This morning’s result — 6.6 — was … about on a par with what I’ve seen already.

What that means for my last hospital blood test, an HbA1c test?   How the two play, together?

I’m not sure: although I’m told the figures the sugar monitor gives are roughly a tenth of the one I get from the HbA1c test.

The last quarterly hospital result, of an HbA1c test, was ~40.

Assuming I’m right — about the relationship between the two types of result — something seems … 

Well … 

Odd.

One of the UK’s longest running comics is The Beano.

Which I can vaguely remember reading as a child: even though I preferred Buster* and Monster Fun.

The news I caught this morning … ?

Apparently, a centenary edition of The Beano is to be handed out by the National Library of Scotland.

I’m tempted to turn into Colonel Blimp†, and tell you can’t give kids comics.

It’s unhygienic!

But in all honesty?

It’s a good move.

Getting kids reading anything always seems a good idea … !

Right … it’s official.

I had a colonoscopy, yesterday.

And … ?

Quite frankly, I’m not feeling as woozy as I was expecting to be.

And I’m trying to remember if the connected the sedative I was supposed to have.

From what I recall?

There wasn’t anything connected to the cannula I had in my left hand.

And the camera I had inserted in my rear??

Felt a little more uncomfortable than the last time I had the procedure.

I’m feeling hungry, sleepy … but definitely not woozy.

On the upside … ?

I have managed to have a couple of polyps removed: and should hear, soon, if they’re benign or otherwise.

Here’s hoping.

With the riots going on … ?

I’m grateful Brentwood hasn’t been affected.

I’m very aware I live near a mosque: one of the types of place that’s been targeted.

And near a hotel: one that — as far as I know — isn’t putting up asylum seekers.

Like I say: I’m grateful.

What I’m not impressed about … ?

Is Elon Musk getting involved.

I have to confess, I am knackered.

I’ve had an early start, this morning.

I’ve got my weigh management meeting, today, so want to get there in good time.

I was also up, late.

Watching the 1984 film, Threads*†.

I didn’t do my usual review: as I felt I hadn’t the time.

But?

Threads is one hell of a piece.

Whether it’s still relevant?   I don’t know.

Today, we’re killing ourselves slowly with climate change: rather being five minutes away from death from a nuclear attack.

Did it — and dramas like When the Wind Blows, or The Day After — make any difference?   Persuade governments not to drop the bomb?

I don’t know.

Is it worrying?

Yes.

This is still a powerful piece that deserves watching.

One I think my nephew Jude wouldn’t necessarily enjoy: we’ve discussed it.

Threads is blunt, powerful … and will give you nightmares, especially if you’re pregnant …

Yes: it’s officially the case.

It’s raining out: as you’ve possibly guessed, watching today’s intro video.

Which is awkward.

I was thinking of heading to Romford, today!

It’s possibly not the weather for it!

I’m something of a technology watcher: although I don’t talk about it as often as I’d like to.

I’m not exactly Linus Sebastian, after all.

But … ?

I do keep an eye on Apple.

So the news Apple’s announced that— in upcoming versions of iOS — they will be scanning your phone for child abuse images, before those uploaded to Apple’s iCloud back up service?   And reporting user with such content to the relevant police force?

Is something I took notice of.

Apple can champion its safeguarding effects, whilst keeping illegal content off its servers*.

The problem, of course?

Is people are complaining.

Frankly?

I’m not surprised.

But, as I’ve said in a footnote*, I believe Apple have made this move to avoid getting sued for having child abuse images on their iCloud servers.

Assuming I’m correct?

I’m wondering if the complainers have realised that?

The Mandalorian — Series 1 Chapter 3 — The Sin — A Review

Right … 

I’ve just had the news on: and managed to turn it off.

Sometimes?   Silence when writing is … preferable … 

At least, I think so.

That lack of any noise: except what’s coming in through the windows.

A chill, but welcome, breeze.

The sounds of trains: and traffic.

That … ?

And silence from the TV.

Which is as welcome as the breeze: it’s been 36ºC in parts of the UK.

Apparently?

It’s been the hottest August since 2003.

Whatever?

That hasn’t stopped me watching a TV show.

Oh, no.

Series one of The Mandalorian is proving to be beguiling.

I think we can safely say I am tired … and expect to be more tired, tonight.

Frankly?   I want to see the next episode of The Mandalorian, tonight.

Equally as frankly?

I managed to catch the rest of Relic, last night.

And, while I did it in two halves?

I still found it quite a watch.

Certainly on a par with The Babadook, the other Australian horror film I’ve seen.

They are quite something to catch.

Right … 

I start the new job, tomorrow: so … I’m thinking there’s one or two forms I need to fill in.

Including filling the job centre’s change of circumstances form: AND put in for a Back to Work Grant.

(I’m good at typos: I initially wrote Back to Wok, there.)

At any rate … ?

It’s … looking interesting, right now.

Just so everyone knows … ?

I was at my uncle’s funeral, yesterday.

I have to say, it went well enough.

And think he may have been pleased.

It’s only the second funeral I’ve been to where there’s been so many people attending it, there wasn’t enough seats.

Literally, standing room, only.

That’s quite something …

As a final point … ?   One I’ve been meaning to mention for a while, now … 

Last Friday, a man from Dublin was arrested in Dover: trying to smuggle sixty handguns into the UK.

He’s since appeared in court.

Every statement I’ve seen about this?

Tells me that various law enforcement bodies believe the guns are heading for “organised crime.”

Personally?

I think it was heading for dissident republicans: ones unhappy about a No-Backstop Brexit.

I don’t like that idea.   But can’t say I’m surprised.

And have to ask … 

How many other consignments have got through … ?

Hmmm … It’s looks like I’ve officially got another day off, today.

Which means, of course … there’s going to be laundry done.

The thought occurs … that laundry seems to keep occurring!

On a more entertaining note?

I’ve dinner at my family’s, pencilled in for later.

And may JUST have time … 

For some more TV.

I have to admit, yesterday’s shift was decidedly uncomfortable.

As my innards were playing up.

Not as badly as they were on Saturday, though, but badly enough.

Still … I managed to get through the shift: and figured out what had kicked off the attack.
