Right … one of those things is going back!

I had a delivery turn up from Amazon, yesterday.

With, believe it or not, no actual problems.

Remind me to send Jeff Bezos a ‘Thank You’ note.

But one item — the DVD I’d ordered — didn’t have the extra I was expecting.

So back it goes.

I’ll be complaining about that, though.

As … ?

I’ve two post offices near me: one in the local Londis, another in Brentwood High Street.

Both of which I can drop a return to for free … 

Neither of which are on Amazon’s list of acceptable drop-off zones.

The other post offices are too far away to use.

Like the branches of Asda Amazon I suggests I use.

Frankly … ?

I think Amazon really need to offer a bit more of a choice …

Right, then … 

I think my next Star Trek: Strange New Worlds review is going to take a little longer than I was expecting.

Because?

Yesterday was payday: so I was in town for longer than I am, normally.

It should be up, tomorrow, at the latest.

I just have to make the video: once I’ve talked about Erica Ortegas’ hobbies.

Turns out she’s a petrol head, who likes restoring bikes.

I had a quick chat with my younger sister, Ruth, last week: about her CD collection.

She still has one: as well as a CD player.

In a day when many of us either stream from Spotify or Apple Music: or have imported our CD collections to our Macs/PCs?

I was surprised she’d not imported her collection across to any of the laptops she’d owned over the years.

Granted: you need a CD drive to do so.

But that, and a copy of Apple’s Music.app?   Or its predecessor, the iTunes.app?

Meant you could import CDs, store them on your computer, and play them in the app.

Ruth, by contrast … ?

Has a Chromebook.

How you import music from CDs, onto a Chromebook?

Bar the fact you’d need an external CD drive, I don’t know.

And, going by the quick Google search I’ve just done … ?

Trying to import them sounds like a complicated mess*.

I think that — the next time my nephew’s over — I may need to persuade him to bring his Chromebook with him.

Him and his uncle may be able to solve this!

Which frankly, means it’s payday.

Getting bills paid, and some shopping done?

Would be nice!

You may or may not be in the UK, or remember a vintage science-fiction show called Blake’s 7.

It seems the BBC — the show’s owners — have to decided to give it the Dr Who Collection treatment: with the first series due for release on 11th November.

I might just have to beg, borrow or steal copies of that!

It should — assuming as many of the surviving cast agree to take part — have some interesting extra features.

Yes: it’s now Wednesday … and payday.

Which … ?

Barring the fact I know it’s going to be spent by tomorrow?

That’s a handy thing to know: as it means I can pay my bills, and get some shopping.

That’s emotional reassuring, if nothing else.

About the only (minor) problem?

Is that my pay-as-you-go utility meters have been transferred from SSE to Ovo.

SSE?   Let you pay online, at a PayPoint or at a post office.

By contrast?   OVO let you pay online, or at a PayPoint.

OK, I know I could pay online: but I tend to prefer in person.

It gets me some exercise, if nothing else.

The trouble, there?

Is that the nearest PayPoint … ?

Is miles from my bank, and shops!

A lot further from the high street than the post office!

It’s going to be a lot more exercise than I want!

Drat … I didn’t get the job … 

I went for an interview, yesterday.

At a local shop: one I’d put in several applications for, for different posts.

Unfortunately?

The position was for night shifts — that wouldn’t play well with my back and knees — rather than the cashiers post I was hoping for.

The interviewers and I shook hands at that point.

But that have told me to keep my eyes peeled for daytime jobs.

That’s a possible upside.

I’m waiting for Monday.

I’ve put in for a new laptop: as I’m going to need it for both a course, and a job assessment.

My case worker?

Has to consult with management.

Is tomorrow: Monday.

A little bit of sad news — one I know Old Peculiar regular, Debbi Mack will know — is that Penny Dreadful: City of Angels has been cancelled.

Frankly?

That’s a disappointment: that was a fantastic show, one with plenty of potential, great writing, and a superb cast.

What can I tell you?

Just as a quick final thought — before we get to the goods! — there’s a new Batman movie in production.

Called The Batman and starring Robert Pattinson as the main character, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred.   Oh, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin*.

It looks dark … and interesting …

I know I’m up early.

Incredibly early.

But that’s the breaks, I think.

Especially when you’re in a job that means you have to start at a very early time!

You’ve possibly worked out I’m an Apple fan: I have been for years.

But … ?

Even the best can have their moments.

Apple have introduced their Apple branded credit card.   Which is an interesting expansion of Apple Pay.

They’ve had issues, though.

Apparently, you can’t store it in a leather wallet.   Or in anything denim.

Otherwise, it’ll get discoloured.

Who’d’ve thought?   That the first thing you needed to get with an Apple Card?   Was a card condom?

Yep: I’ve a day off, today.

And … ?

In amongst the day’s events, I’m thinking I should dig up a movie.

But not sure which movie … although, I do have Fiddler on the Roof sitting around.

Tempting.   Long, but tempting: after all, it’s supposed to be one of the movies.

But … 

Well, we’ll see …

Which sort of brings me to another subject.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Star Wars Anthology film that tells us about Han Solo’s early years.

It’s not due to be released until September, this year.

The on-demand version on the 14th, the blu-ray on the 25th.

Which gets me thinking …

You’ve heard or ripping, haven’t you?   The idea you can copy a film or TV show on a DVD or CD, into a form that can be played on a computer: or on a phone, tablet, streaming box, what have you.

There’s also what’s called web ripping, or sometimes VOD ripping.

In other words ripping video from websites like Twitch or YouTube: again, so you can watch the video offline.

Needless to say, it’s rather shady, legally.

Doable, but shady.

I’m looking at the difference in release dates for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

And thinking that gap in dates will encourage some to web rip the video on demand versions.

And to release them via torrent sites like Pirate Bay, ExtraTorrent and Demonoid.

Two weeks before the blu-ray versions out.

Just a thought …

 People didn’t know why, then.

This is the band that, instead of going to the Brits aftershow party in 1992 — where they won Best British Band — left a dead sheep, there.
