Dr Who Anniversary Specials — The Daleks In Colour — A Review

23rd November 2023: The Daleks In Colour — Introduced.

Yes: I know.

It’s Thursday: and I’m planning on watching TV.

After I’ve had dinner.

And … ?   As ever, I’m planning on watching a very specific TV show.

Given today is officially the 60th Anniversary of the first broadcast of TV show, Doctor Who?

Given I’m a fan?

I’m doing dinner slightly earlier: so that I can catch the 19:30 broadcast of The Daleks In Colour on BBC 4.

The thing’s an edited, colourised version of the original Dalek story.

Granted?

I’m worried it could go the way of the original VHS release of The Brain of Morbius.

We’ll have to see!

Doctor Who — Galaxy Four — Episode 4 - The Exploding Planet: A Review

18th March, 2022.

Right at the moment … ?   It’s a Friday: early evening on a Friday.

I’ve got Mr Oizo’s Flat Beat on, in the background.

Which is as hypnotic as it ever was.

At any rate … ?

It’s a Friday night.

And?

I’m going to watch the last episode of classic Doctor Who story, Galaxy Four: The Exploding Planet.

Once Swamp Thing finished playing!

Doctor Who — Galaxy Four — Episode 3 - Airlock: A Review

11th March, 2022.

Yes: it’s Friday!

It’s officially a Friday.   Which means a few things.

I’ve got back from my weight management meeting, this afternoon: it went well enough.

I’m cooking dinner.   Fish and chips, if you must know.

And, as a final thought …

I’m going to be doing what I’ve gone for the past couple of weeks: watching another episode of the Classic Doctor Who story, Galaxy Four.

I should have that written and video review up, late tomorrow night: if not earlier.

Catch you later.

Doctor Who — Galaxy Four — Episode 2 - Trap of Steel: A Review

4th March, 2022.

It’s got to be said;
  • It’s my birthday, and I can’t afford to go out.   It would’ve been nice to see The Batman.   However?   If you’d like to put some money in my PayPal account, you’d be welcome to.   (There’s a Donate button in the sidebar, if you’re reading this on a desktop.)
  • I’m going to spend my time, watching telly!

I caught the first episode of classic Dr Who story, Galaxy Four, last week.

I’ll be doing that, once I’ve had dinner: then telling you about it, by tomorrow night, at the latest.

Doctor Who — Galaxy Four — Episode 1 — Four Hundred Dawns: A Review

25th February, 2022.

Right …

As I write this introduction, it’s a Friday … and I’m just about to have dinner.

Then … ?

I’m going to watch the first episode of the recently reconstructed William Hartnell Dr Who story, Galaxy Four: where clones speak in hideously exaggerated RP accents!

Hopefully?

I’ll be able to finish my written and video reviews by tonight.

If not?

You’ll be reading this by tomorrow!

Dr Who Xmas Special 2017: Twice upon A Time — Thanking Mr Moffat

25th December, 2017.

You know …

You can — sort of — guess I need to be up early, for work, tomorrow.

I’m writing this, for heaven’s sake: rather than doing something more Christmas.

But, to be fair?

I have spent a lot of time with my family, today: with lots of presents given and received.

Of and at least one smashed plate, one dropped glass, and a lot of frayed tempers!

But that’s Christmas for you.

Happy … with grotty bits …

~≈§≈~

That’s truly Christmas for you.

The extraneous bits of Christmas?

Well, I think I can say the gifts I’d managed to get my family went down well.

And one or two gifts I got given caught my eye.

There’s an iTunes card in there: from Ruth and Jude.

An Amazon Gift card from my mother.

And a copy of the newly remastered Tom Baker era Shada: famously never finished because of a strike.

All gratefully received, I should add.

~≈§≈~

Of course, the really extraneous part of Christmas?

For me as a Dr Who fan is extremely extraneous.

Yep.

You’re right …

It was Twice upon a Time …

And Hmmm is a possible response.

An Adventure In Space And Time: Wow!

22nd November, 2013: An Adventure in Time and Space.

I don’t ask much of life, I really don’t.

The occasional night out is nice: along with the occasional film.

Possibly even a concert.

All depending on the money situation, of course.

On the very limited budget I have … ?

I’ll happily rent a movie or two from iTunes.

And happily watch tv, if I think there’s something worth watching.

That’s been difficult, over the space of the past week.

Given that the communal aerial for the block of flats I live in has been damaged: and won’t be repaired until Monday at the earliest.

I’m fuming: as are my neighbours.

What makes things frustrating — for me — is the fact that I finds myself forced to use the BBC iPlayer’s ‘Live’ service to watch the few things I do want to watch: including tomorrow’s fiftieth anniversary Dr Who special, The Day Of The Doctor.

The service is good, especially with downloaded content: but it’s live streaming, even on the faster broadband my ISP provides, isn’t perfect.

So, I’m understandably not a completely happy bunny.

Far from it, in fact.

However … ?

However, I did manage to catch the Mark Gatiss penned commemoration of the show’s early days, An Adventure In Space And Time.

And, my LORD, was that good … !

~≈Ï≈~

Starring David Bradley as Wiiliam Hartnell, the docu-drama shows us Sydney Newman — Brian Cox — appointing Verity Lambert (Jessica Raine) to be the new producer of an outré teatime TV show.

Over what turns out to be something of a trying three years:  with sexist designers, patronising bosses, an increasingly exhausting crew …

And a leading man who’s, initially, very sceptical … !

~≈Ï≈~

Now, I’ve got to admit, I’m very biased, here.

I’m a fan, watching a fan made drama — Mark Gatiss, as Moffat, Tennant, Gaiman, Davies et al are all fanbois — about our favourite show.

But … ?

Well, frankly, I’m thinking that was also a wonderfully made piece of work: with excellent performances from it’s cast, including its two central actors, Bradley and Raine, as Hartnell and Lambert.

Equally as frankly … ?   If this were a movie IN were writing about … ?

It’s would certainly deserve four stars.
An Adventure In Space And Time.★★★★
