Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17th August, 2025.

17th August, 2025.

Right …

It seems it’s official.

TV show, The Only Way Is Essex, is fifteen years old.

In case you didn’t know?

The Only Way Is Essex is a ‘structured reality’ show: some of it, even now, is filmed in my home town of Brentwood.

How do we sound sarcastic: in written text?

Because I’m sorely tempted write the word ‘wow’: and want it to sound sarcastic.

You’ll have to read it, sarcastically.

I’d like to be sarcastic … because the thing’s really not representative of the people of Brentwood.

Hey … ho … !

In case you’re following my reviews of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds … ?

The latest written and video reviews are up.

I think anyone who’s a fan of the original series will enjoy “The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail”.

Feel free to leave me a comment, if you did!

“I wouldn’t throw myself on the casting couch, and I know that cost me parts.   I wasn’t going to play the whore.   That wasn’t me.”
Maureen O’Hara, 17 August 1920 – 24 October 2015.

And a song …

The next ten question set is on 25th August: it’s about Nottinghamshire.

Comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum … !   (See you later!)

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for whatever happens, Olga!

They make for interesting reading, Debbi.   (It’s Chianti in the film: and Amarone in the novel.   I had to look that one up: it’s got minimal organoleptic characteristics.   Apparently …)

Q1) Turkey

Q2) Turkey

Q3) 1949 (It seems the 17th of August is not a good day to visit Turkey)

Q4) The Siege of Belgrade ended on 17th August, 1717. The city had been besieged by forces from where: the United Kingdom, the Ottoman Empire or the 5th French Republic? I am not sure I’m reading the question right. Because Belgrade was under the control of the Ottoman Empire, and it was besieged by forces from the Imperial Army (Austrian Empire or Habsburg Monarchy), together with Serbian and Bavarian forces. I imagine the answer you’re looking for is the Ottoman Empire, because they had captured the city before, but, at that point they were the ones in control. With the heat, I don’t sleep at all well, so my brain is not firing on all cylinders, and what you mean is probably clear.

Q5) the UK
I was just talking to one of my cousins, who lives in Ourense, one of the parts of Spain burning at the moment, and where my Dad came from, and she's told me everything has burned around the little village where he and her mother come from. You only see black and ashes. It is an area full of woods and greenery. Or it was.
This is a picture she shared, from the town where she usually lives in (at the moment she is on holiday at that little village).

It is a difficult place to work in, because it is hilly, with lots of undergrowth, and very rural and isolated. Not many people live there, and they are mostly quite old.

Your comment about Brentwood and the "reality" show reminds me of my comments (and my sister's) about Portlandia, which is more than a bit of an exaggeration of the town. Not a reality show, in any sense. :)
