Threads — A Review.

1st October, 2023: the introduction.

I have something of a confession to make.

I have not seen a film since 5th August of this year.

And I didn’t write about it.

I think I have my reasons.

The main one?

A lack of time: filling in paperwork, job hunting, nephew sitting, writing quizzes and TV review … 

Time is a resource I never learnt to manage: and one that I find slips through my fingers faster than I can catch it.

That’s always the way, I think … 

At any rate … ?

A couple of months ago, I saw a film, and didn’t review it.

Which is a shame.

1984’s Threads is possibly the most powerful film I’ve ever seen.

Hmmm …

I’ve actually got today, off.

Which sounds odd, coming from a chap that’s literally just started work.

Today?

Today, though?

Is different, because it’s a Saturday off … for someone who’s a working man.

Unlike last Saturday, where I was an unemployed parasite, leeching off the state.

The fact I’ve not been paid my first week’s wages?   And really can’t afford to do anything about it … ?   Or actually, I don’t know, maybe take a friend out for a coffee?

Really has nothing to do with it.

The Daily Teaser — 15-5-2016: How To Drop A Bomb and Influence People

You know, I managed to do myself a huge favour, last night.

Watching an episode of House of Cards, as you’re asking.

Which means I managed to avoid catching of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Whether that’s a good thing, I don’t know: I do know, courtesy of the BBC, that the UK’s entry came third from the bottom, and that the competition was won by the Ukraine.

A song about how horrible Josef Stalin was, apparently.

Personally?

I still think the 1991 French entry, Amina, who placed second, was HAD!!

Just as a quick afterthought, there?

I managed to treat myself, yesterday.

Yep.   I’ve added another book to my reading list.   It’s at the bottom of the pile, by my bedside, so you know.

It’s a collected anthology of the first first books in Ursula K. LeGuin’s Earthsea cycle.

That was, it has to be said, a bit of an impulse buy.

But … ?

Well, I’d read the first of the stories — A Wizard of Earthsea — many years ago.

I remember finding it slightly too deep, at the time: but worth keeping on a shelf, somewhere.

Although I’d borrowed the one I read, from the library.

Thankfully … ?

It’s on my shelf, and ready to go.   As soon as I get to it.

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 15-10-2014

Right … That’s my daily Job search, done.

I don’t know if you realise it, but I’m not working, at the moment.

Which makes any problems one has with — say — a computer monitor, fridge or oven, look a lot fiddly to resolve.

As I don’t have the cash to replace anything like that.

But ONE of the consequences of being out of work … ?

Is I have to do a daily job search: at my local job centre.   It’s relatively local: so no real hardship.

And it’s got to the point it’s actually enjoyable: I can do something positive to find work: and not be distracted by too many home comforts.

All good, eh … ?

The Daily Teaser — 16-7-2013:The Day Of The Bomb

It has to be said, THAT was funny … !

I’ll be frank, I had ANOTHER bad night, trying to get to sleep, last night.

The weather has been rather hot: to the point of being very uncomfortable, of an evening.

Seriously hot, actually: to the point where I’ve had my windows open, all night.

So what’s helped, this morning … ?

Is simply the fact that I realised I’d missed last night’s episode of I’m Sorry. I Haven’t A Clue: and managed to catch up on the BBC’s iPlayer service.

I’m grateful I did: that show’s enough to put a smile on ANYONE’S face … !
