Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th May 2026.

28th May, 2026.

Right … I had my nephew, Jude, over, last night.

And yes: he’d appreciate your help.

Yes: Jude needs you to hit the ‘Like’ button on his lates video!

He’d be thankful, if you did … !

On other fronts … ?

I’ve had a blu-ray delivered: a 4k copy of the Dr Who TV movie, that I tried ripping, yesterday.

I use an app called MakeMKV to copy discs: it’s copied every single 2k disc I’ve thrown at it for the past few years, remarkable well.

But occasionally … ?

It has issues with 4k videos.

Issues that mean updating its library of decryption keys.

After emailing what’s called an ‘AACS .tgz dump file’ to svq@makemkv.com

Something that I did, last night.

Hopefully?

I’ll be ably to copy and transcode the thing, soon.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-5-2025 — The Old Firm Derby (Ten questions)

28th May, 2025: the Old Firm Derby.

Right … did I mention I have a computer for sale … ?

I have a computer for sale: a Chromebook, with 8gb RAM, and a 128gb solid state drive.

Going for £105 ONO.

I’ve put it on Facebook: and see if I can’t plonk it on Gumtree and Craigslist, later.

Wish me luck: I suspect this could take a while …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-5-2024 — The World Series of Poker

28th May, 2024: the World Series of Poker.

It’s Tuesday.

It’s therefore Yay Day.

If you’re in the mood to leap out on someone and go “Yay!”

I’m not.

I’d end up with someone giving me a funny look!

~≈Ü≈~

Oh, just as an entertaining thought … ?

Apparently, the Wu-Tang Clan have released the world’s rarest album: Once Upon a Time in Shaolin.

There’s only one copy.

And?

That copy’s going on display — at a museum in Tasmania — soon.

Personally?

I know for a fact it’s not the only ‘rarest album’

It shares that distinction with Jarre’s Music for Supermarkets*.

Heigh-ho!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th May 2023

28th May, 2023.

Right … did I mention it was my Mum’s birthday, a couple of weeks ago?

It was my Mum’s birthday, a couple of weeks ago: and the party, last night.

The band were rather good, I have to say.

At any rate … I got to dancing, near the end of the evening: persuaded by the singer.

Yes: I almost went over, attempting a version of Berry’s Duck Walk!

My legs still hurt, this morning … !

~≈🦆≈~

Oh … as an extra thought … ?

I met my cousin Mark, last night: quite how impressed he’ll be with the Dread Zeppelin tune I sent him, I don’t know!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th May, 2022.

28th May, 2022.

Yes: I’ve made a mistake!

I checked Facebook … and had a meme go past on my timeline.

Given the song that’s based on … ?

I ended up with an earworm.

Granted, an earworm with an award winning video, and a distinctive mandolin riff … but, none-the-less, an earworm.

I’ll learn, one day.

But I’m also very aware it could’ve been worse: it could’ve been Zendaya!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-5-2021: The Forgotten Prisoners

28th May, 2021.

Right … I’ve officially had both doses of the AstraZeneca jabs.   I’m in a far better health position that I was, a week ago.

At least, in terms of the COVID-19 virus.

Frankly?

It now means I can safely walk the streets … and head for the dentist appointment, this afternoon.

~≈§≈~

Oh, I’ve got the Today programme on, at the moment.

The reason I mention it?

Is that Brian Nash, guitarist for Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

It’s fascinating stuff to hear.

As were the big hits!

I still think the Annihilation mix of Two Tribes was the definitive one!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-5-2020: Kylie

28th May, 2020.

Right …

Firstly?   In addition to a new potato masher?

I now have new teatowels!

Which is helpful.

Frankly, the old lot, however clean I tried to get them, were … well … stained … !

So new ones are welcome.

~≈†≈~

The email, on the other hand … ?

A couple of days ago, I saw an article or two on the BBC’s news site: about how schools and children’s care homes were having issues, sourcing computers and internet connections?

And how the unemployed were having similar issues?

One thing I have managed to do is write and send an email to Essex County Council.

At least, put in a Freedom of Information request about it.

I’ve also writing something similar that I could send to internet service providers: to see what they can offer to the unemployed.

Hopefully, I’ll get a quick reply …

Or, at least, quick enough to make something of the subject.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-5-2019: Fleming!

28th May, 2019.

Yes, it’s true.

Occasionally?

I read a book, or two.

And have to confess that my bedtime reading, at the moment … ?

Is Ward Moore’s1953  Bring the Jubilee.

I’m about four chapters into the alternative history novel.

And frankly?   It’s rather good.

To the point where I’m hearing the main character, Hodge Backmaker, talk.

At least, I’m hearing him talk, while I’m reading it: in what sounds like a late nineteenth century southern US citizen.

If I’m hearing the characters talk*?

That’s writing … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th May, 2018

28th May, 2018.

Can I make a confession, at this point?

That I’m no political philosopher.

I’m just someone who has opinions on things.

I should get paid more per hour, is one.

Cheese is ok, but only on a burger.

On a more serious note?   I think leaving the European Union is a bad move … that the Iraq War that Blair and Bush authorised was a bad move …

And that access to abortions — terminations, if you want the less emotive name — is, if not a fundamental human right, then certainly a procedure that should be available to all.

Without hindrance: and regardless of my opinion.

I believe it should be available in several circumstances.

When the mother’s health — mental or physical — is in danger, when the foetus isn’t viable, when the woman has been raped, or when the pregnancy is a product of sexual abuse.

Yes: I’m aware that various forms of contraception can prevent things reaching the need for a termination … but also aware people can forget to take the pill, and that condoms split.

And that sometimes, we’re too drunk — or enthusiastic — to bother wearing a condom.

I’m aware — from some of the women I’ve spoken to — that’s it’s not the easiest procedure, emotionally, to undergo.

But, like them, feel it’s needed: and should be — as here in the UK — legislated for, and practised by trained medical personnel.

Whether a woman wants one?   Is a whole other matter.   But feel it should be available to her, should she feel it’s a needed option.

~≈§≈~

As I’m sure you’re aware, the Republic of Ireland — a famously Catholic country that forbade abortions in it’s constitution — has had a referendum on whether it should allow the procedure.

With a two thirds majority voting in favour of allowing it.

Good for them.

I’m VERY aware that, in light of that referendum, people are asking why Northern Ireland — part of the island of Ireland, after all, as well as part of the UK — is still the only part of the UK that forbids abortions.

Forcing many who needed one to the mainland, in order to legally get one.

The republic’s decision to allow the procedure?   Again, gives those woman a further option.

I’m also of the opinion that Northern Ireland’s laws on the subject should be nearer to those of both the mainland, AND the Republic.

Something that’s been highlighted by the Referendum.

Right at the moment?

There are calls for MPs at Westminster to force the issue through.

This is where I start to have problems.

Yes: I feel Northern Ireland’s laws should match the rest of the UK.

But, to the best of my own (limited) knowledge?

This is a devolved matter: one that should be handled by the currently suspended Northern Irish Assembly, rather than by Westminster.

Getting Westminster to force the issue?

Will do several things.

Will seriously affect the ability of the Assembly to function: as and when it resumes.

And sets a precedent for overruling the authority of the other devolved assemblies in the UK: allowing Westminster to ignore the Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly.

And thus the will of the people.

I think Northern Ireland needs to reform its laws.

But that this needs doing by the Assembly, not Westminster.

Westminster doing it?   Would be damaging democracy.

Dr Who — Series 10: Episode 7 — The Pyramid at the End of the World

28th May, 2017

You’ve been reading me a while, haven’t you … ?

At least, I hope you have!

Welcome to Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar: the YouTube channel’s over here, the Teasers’ are self explanatory …

But, just in case you are new?

I (currently) work in a call centre in Chelmsford, I’ve been a pub quiz master in my time, I blog about whatever I feel may interest an audience …

I like watching TV shows, as well.   If I think I can get away with it?

I’ve been following Mr Robot, just recently: just as an example.

For many years, now?

I’ve almost religiously followed Dr Who

Good, bad, thick, thin, up, down …

Yeah

Since childhood, in other words.

You notice I mentioned I work in a call centre?   Usually on a Saturday night?

That’s right …

That means I’ve actually watched this week’s episode, tonight … ?

Now …

I can tell what you’re thinking.

You’re wondering what I thought of …

~≈†≈~

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-5-2017

Hmmm …

Have you been watching the news?

Then you’d possibly realise that the NHS isn’t the only one to have cyber-problems.

Oh, no.

British Airways has had problems.

That was apparently caused … ?

By a power supply issue.

Either someone’s pulled a pug they should’ve have.

Or someone forgot to put 50p in the meter …

Ahem … !
