Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28th May 2023

28th May, 2023.

Right … did I mention it was my Mum’s birthday, a couple of weeks ago?

It was my Mum’s birthday, a couple of weeks ago: and the party, last night.

The band were rather good, I have to say.

At any rate … I got to dancing, near the end of the evening: persuaded by the singer.

Yes: I almost went over, attempting a version of Berry’s Duck Walk!

My legs still hurt, this morning … !

Oh … as an extra thought … ?

I met my cousin Mark, last night: quite how impressed he’ll be with the Dread Zeppelin tune I sent him, I don’t know!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        28th May is the feast day of Saint Bernard of Menthon.   He’s got a what named after him: cat, dog or hamster?

Q2)        28th May marks the Downfall of the Derg.   It’s a public holiday in which African nation … ?

Q3)        The Sierra Club — an environmentalist group — was founded on 28th May, 1892.   In which US city: San Francisco, Los Angeles or San Remo?

Q4)        A coup d’état started: on 28th May, 1926.   Where: Spain, Portugal or Italy?

Q5)        Finally … ?   28th May, 1987, saw Mathias Rust land a plane in a famous Moscow landmark.  Which landmark: Red Square, Lubyanka Square or Gorky Park?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        27th May, 2023, is a Saturday.   27th May, 2024, will be a what: Sunday, Monday or Tuesday?
A1)        Monday.   2024 is a leap year: which shifts weekdays after 29th Feb, forward!

Q2)        Linnanmäki opened on 27th May, 1950.   Linnanmäki is amusement park, where: Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm or Copenhagen?
A2)        Helsinki.

Q3)        A flood destroyed Ellicott City’s Main Street, on 27th May, 2018.   Ellicott City is in which US state?
A3)        Maryland.

Q4)        Christopher Lee was born on 27th May, 1922.   He played which wizard, in the Lord of the Rings movies: Gandalf, Saruman or Radagast?
A4)        Saruman.   You can read more about the character, here

Q5)        Finally … ?   27th May, 1911, saw the birth of Vincent Price. He played Dr. Robert Morgan, in 1964’s The Last Man on Earth.   The film was based on a novel by whom: J. R. R. Tolkien, Isaac Asimov or Richard Matheson?
A5)        Richard Matheson.   (The film’s been since been remade as The Omega Man, with Charlton Heston, and I Am Legend, with Will Smith.)
Here’s a thought …

“I have made this, the most serious decision of my life, only upon the single thought of what would, in the end, be best for all.”
From the Abdication Speech of Edward 8th, 23 June 1894 – 28 May 1972.

And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        From what I can gather, Olga — I had a word with my regular pharmacist — the Trulicity does has some known weight loss/appetite suppressant properties: it’s just — as yet — not been licensed in the UK for that purpose.   And, like Ozempic, you only need to take it once a week.   Victoza, from what the pharmacist tells me?   Is approved for weight loss, but needs to be taken once a day.   It’s sold under the brand name, Saxenda.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed on the Ozempic front!

Ah HA!   It sounds like you’re an old school fan, Debbi!   (Last time I went, I went as the Criminologist.   I can never find corsets to fit!)
Oh, do you remember Indira Varma?   Suzie Costello, in Torchwood?   She’s appearing in Series 14 as a character called ‘the Duchess’.   Hopefully, they won’t have to kill her twice!

Q2) Ethiopia. It has a fabulous name for a movie or a book...

Q3) San Francisco

Q4) Portugal

Q5) Red Square
Fingers crossed on the medication front, indeed. The licensing bodies of different countries work at a different pace. I remember having seen some meds already available in Spain, when I first got to the UK, which didn't appear in the radar there until much later. Unfortunately, it isn't always to do with safety, but...
It sounds as if a great time was had by all yesterday, even with the leg pain today. By the way, I've been having some trouble with my back (it isnt't the first time, but my attempts at dealing with it without taking any medication haven't worked) and I've been trying some of the NHS videos to strengthen and exercise the area and they aren't too bad (there are plenty of pilates options around as well, but some are pretty advanced if one isn't used to it).
