8th April, 2023.
Right … it’s now Bank Holiday Monday.
And … ?
I think we can safely say the Coronation is all over, bar the screaming.
Oh, and the volunteering.
And the hanging around, waiting for the new currency to turn up.
Frankly?
I gave the concert a miss: in favour of watching a movie.
I wonder which one I saw … …
Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in her answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) 8th May is Truman Day. Where: New York, Missouri or Mississippi?Q2) 8th May is Furry Day: in the Cornish town of Helston. What flower are the dancers supposed to wear: roses, lilies of the valley or rhododendrons?Q3) 8th May is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day: marking the activities of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The movement’s symbols include a red cross, a red crescent, and a red … what?Q4) Chemist, Antoine Lavoisier, was tried, convicted and executed on 8th May, 1794. During the part of the French Revolution called the Reign of … what: Fear, Terror or War?Q5) Finally … ? 8th May, 1842, saw a train crash. On the route from Versailles to where: Paris, Lyon or Nice?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 7th May is the feast Day of Saint John of Beverly. Beverly is in what’s now where: West Yorkshire, East Yorkshire or North Yorkshire?A1) East Yorkshire. (The county is also known as the East Riding of Yorkshire. Apparently, a riding is one third of a given region.)Q2) 7th May, 1794, saw Robespierre introduce a new state religion to France. That religion was the Cult of the Supreme … what?A2) The Cult of the Supreme Being.Q3) 7th May, 1274, saw the opening of the Second Council of Lyon. It lead to the downfall of which British Prime Minister: Neville Chamberlain, Winston Churchill or Clement Attlee?A5) Neville Chamberlain.
Here’s a thought …
“Well all the president is, is a glorified public relations man who spends his time flattering, kissing, and kicking people to get them to do what they are supposed to do anyway.”Harry S. Truman, May 8, 1884 – December 26, 1972.
And a song …
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* The sports team joined in, Olga? I’d imagine the divisive issues would be whether the politicians are FC Barcelona, or RCD Espanyol, fans: those old firm derbies can be murder!
At any rate? It sounds like someone had a very good day!
† Hello, Mum!
‡ I’ll keep my fingers crossed you can get a good price on a new one, Debbi, if and when. (You should qualify for a business discount, if that’s any help!)

No, the interviews were not about sports, they were general. The sports guys do that programme, but they are journalists, and as the interviewees came during the time they were the hosts of the live programme, it made sense for them to do the interviews. (I imagine that must have been discussed beforehand, but as I didn't take part in the organising, I don't know). Yes, you're right, that could have been a divisive issue, but Espanyol is struggling so much to keep afloat... And, to tell you the truth, the enmity has never been quite as bad as in other places (or perhaps it is, but as I am not into football I haven't noticed). Real Madrid and Barcelona, yes. That is another matter.
I hope you enjoy the bank holiday.
