Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 30th January 2026.

30th January, 2026: Gosh!

It’s officially official: I’ve had today’s dose of Mounjaro, the drug that helps me lose weight, and control my diabetes.

And … ?

I think it’s working better than it has for the past few weeks: I seem to be getting the jitters it used to provide.

Heigh … ho … !

~≈¥≈~

The situation with X/Twitter is getting ridiculous.

I’ve signed up for the Basic Premium service: in the belief it will let me access support from a human customer services agent.

Or, at least, message the @Premium account with a direct message.

Nope!

Despite having an active account …

I’m told I have to get Verified to message them.

I’m going to paraphrase John Lyndon, here: I get the feeling I’ve been cheated …

~≈❌≈~

Just as a brief note … ?

It seems Microsoft has issues: as updates to Windows 11 have been preventing  PCs — commercial ones in particular — to not shutdown when switched off.

And machines that have had a update applied to prevent this, are having issues starting up.

Normally?

I’d be telling people to get a Mac: except I know current versions of the operating system seem to be having issues.

So that’s possibly some to be cautious about.

Given all that … ?

I’m going to make a guess: a lot of companies will be buying Chromebooks …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th January 2026.

29th January, 2026.

It’s officially official: Apple have updated iMovie, Pages, Numbers and Keynote.

Apparently to improve performance and stability in iMovie’s case.

And to introduce bug fixes in the case of the iWork suite.

I can only hope those bug fixes address the overheating issues I’ve been having …

~≈🔐≈~

There’s something else, as well.

Yes: YouTube have introduced a new feature.

I can now add a quiz to my videos!

Which seems a little pointless in the case of the Teasers … but I’m sure it will come in useful.

~≈⁇≈~

As another thought … ?

I got told, a day or two ago, that I could contact a human support agent on X/Twitter, if I paid for X Premium.

I signed up for the cheapest option available,

And, after waiting the advised amount of time … still can’t talk to a human.

I’ve had to fill in a form.

And also tried to use their Contact Us button.

Which just leads to a barrage of FAQs

‘FAQ’ … is not the word I’m using …

~≈📇≈~

Just as a last thought … ?

My nephew, Jude, was over, last night.

Yes: pizza, garlic bread, chicken strips and chips were eaten.

And yes: a video was made.

Apparently, the main man in attack is Erling Harland …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-1-2025 — Desert Island Discs.

29th January, 2025: Desert Island Discs.

Right … I think I’ve blown my diet!

At any rate, I’ve eaten a take-away pizza with my nephew, Jude.

We had an entertaining evening: and potato wedges.

Jude managed put in an impressive score on a pinball game I have.

And made another video … !

I’ve talked, over the past couple of days, of how modern streaming services means you don’t own the digital film you’ve just bought.

But can and do own versions if they’re on physical media: DVD, blu-ray, VHS, CD, what-have-you.

And — in the discussions with regular readers, since? — noticed that both Olga and Debbi generally agree it’s not the best situation.

With that in mind?

And even given I have privately-made digital copies?

I’ve managed to buy DVD copies* of three Dr Who stories: An Unearthly Child, Terror of the Zygons and The Seeds of Doom, as these are not, currently, available to stream in the UK.

Hopefully?

I won’t need to buy more.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th January, 2024

29th January, 2024.

It has to be said: I’m up early, again!

Yes: it’s Monday.

So, of course, that means I’m off to my weight management meeting.

Hopefully?

I’ll lost some weight.

Assuming those bran flakes are having an effect!

~≈Â≈~

Did I mention I have a new webcam?

Nolansend 4K Webcam: one that seemed — given its advertised capabilities — a reasonable price*.

It is an improvement on my previous external camera: the audio’s OK, it does well at 720 and 1080 resolutions, and the colour range is good.

But … ?

Whatever it says — on the Amazon listing, or the box — it does not record in 4k.

I’ve left a bad review, as a result.

We’ll have to see what happens.

~≈Â≈~

Just as a final thought … ?

I tried watching a film, last night.

The Nicolas Meyer directed, made for TV, movie, The Day After.

I’d been meaning to watch it, after seeing Threads, last year: as I felt a ‘compare and contrast’ style of review would be an idea.

I got through the first forty minutes or so.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so bored in my life!

Threads?   Had a far smaller cast to keep track of: and seemed to be far better paced.

The Day After’s first forty minutes?

Had too many people standing around, listening to the radio.

As distressing as I found Threads†?

It was a far better watch than The Day After.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-1-2023 — I Like Driving In My Car.

29th January, 2023: I Like Driving in my Car.

Right … it’s Sunday morning: and I’ve got the radio on.

Sunday Worship, today?

Is coming from a synagogue in West London: as it’s Holocaust Remembrance Week.

It’s a pleasant listen: a lot less in-yer-face than some of the Happy Clappy Evangelical services Radio 4 broadcasts.

But also sad: it’s marking not only the Holocaust of World War Two: but things like the genocide in Rwanda and the Armenian Genocide.

And reminds us that the Uyghurs of China are facing similar things.

You’d think people would learn, wouldn’t you … ?

~≈Î≈~

Oh, before I forget … ?

I’ve caught another episode of classic Dr Who, on Friday.

The Knight of Jaffa: episode 2 of The Crusade, so you know.

Here’s my written review.

And here’s the video:

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th January, 2022: Singapore

29th January, 2022.

Yes: I’ve woken up with an earworm.

Which — if you didn’t know it — is a song that’s playing it’s way through your head: for whatever reason.

This morning … ?

I’ve woken up, very aware it’s Saturday.

So, inevitably, the theme from old children’s show, Tiswas, starting banging through my head.

Hopefully?

I won’t get a visit from … the Phantom Flan Flinger* … !

Amazing what you could with shaving foam …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th January, 2021.

29th January, 2021.

Yes: it’s official.

I have an appointment, this afternoon: with a student dental hygienist.

So … ?

I’ll happily have nice shiny teeth, this time tomorrow.

OK …

Shinier teeth …

~≈🦷≈~

You’re possibly aware that I’ve had copies of MakeMKV and Handbrake, for the past few years: using the pair to copy DVDs and blu-rays to a hard drive, then transcode them into something I can play on my AppleTV HD.

I’ve long had the Mac versions.

Last night?   Having my old blu-ray drive sitting around, and doing nothing … ?

I thought I’d down the Ubuntu version of the two apps, connect my old blu-ray drive to the laptop, pop in a blu-ray, and see how it worked.

Fairly well, it have to be said.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-1-2020: We’re Not In Kansas, Anymore …

29th January, 2020.

It’s officially official.

I’ve had some financial help from my family: so that I can get at least one ear syringed, privately.

The ear that — currently — is throbbing like bonkers.

The appointment?

Is tomorrow …

It’s going to be a very long day …

~≈†≈~

One sad bit of news, yesterday?

Was simply the death — at the age of 96 — of Nicolas Parsons.

Aged 96.   That’s one hell of a good innings …

And one hell of a career: some 72 years!

His death … ?   Means Just a Minute will not be the same …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-1-2019: The Raven

29th January, 2019.

Right, I’ve officially spoken to Apple Support and put a complaint in.

About — yes, you’ve guessed it — the situation with iMovie.

Remember that, over the past few days?   My copy has been … misbehaving since updates installed last Thursday.

I do have a work-around that gets it functioning for me: today’s intro was made after using it.

I have to hold down Command (⌘) and Option () whilst starting iMovie: which deletes the preferences.

I’m going to have to see how that goes.

I’m not happy about it: and may have to give Apple support another call.

We’ll have to see.

~≈§≈~

Just to make things a little worse for Apple?

It seems using FaceTime on your iPhone … is a security issue.

As there’s a possibility that you can be eavesdropped on, whilst using the feature … or even NOT using the feature …

As far as I’m concerned … ?

The company’s having a bad week …

~≈§≈~

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th January, 2018

29th January, 2018.

No, really …

They do know how to sell you a cheap webcam.

Either that … ?

Or I’ve still not quite worked out how to sync the sound to the video … !

I think — as and when I have time — grabbing one of those intro videos, separating the audio and video, then using iMovie to re-sync them?

Would, assuming I have time, help.

~≈§≈~

Saying that?

That’s not really Amazon’s fault: more a feature of my buying choices.

What is their fault … ?

I’m in Damon House, in Rollason Way.

And, as you’d’ve possibly noticed, Amazon deliveries on my street?

Can be iffy, to say the least.

I actually had one, on Friday.

That was supposed to Watson Court, literally, over the road.

I’m blowed if I know why I ended up with it.

The only people I know in Watson Court are in number 4.

That’s for starters.

Whoever the package was for … didn’t actually ask me if I’b be their safe place.

Lastly … ?

The driver left the blessed thing on my door step.

On the doorstep: where anyone wondering into my building could grab it.

Yep, I’ve got the return labels already: having sent the email to Jeff Bezos, already.

But, dear me … !

~≈§≈~

The fact that, in all this?

That I’ve caught the opening episodes* of Mr Robot, series three, is almost incidental.

But that, at least, is looking very good.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-1-2017

AT LAST … !

My teapot has finally arrived!

You did know I’d ordered a teapot, about a week and a half ago?

Took it a while to get here.

As, according to the chap from the third party seller on Amazon?

The parcel got itself dropped by the Royal Mail.

Which sounds …

Actually, it sounds like just about my luck, given the history of my purchases on the site!

At any rate … ?   It’s here, and does the job.

Now …

Has any one got a spare tea-cosy?
