Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th January, 2024

29th January, 2024.

It has to be said: I’m up early, again!

Yes: it’s Monday.

So, of course, that means I’m off to my weight management meeting.

Hopefully?

I’ll lost some weight.

Assuming those bran flakes are having an effect!

Did I mention I have a new webcam?

Nolansend 4K Webcam: one that seemed — given its advertised capabilities — a reasonable price*.

It is an improvement on my previous external camera: the audio’s OK, it does well at 720 and 1080 resolutions, and the colour range is good.

But … ?

Whatever it says — on the Amazon listing, or the box — it does not record in 4k.

I’ve left a bad review, as a result.

We’ll have to see what happens.

Just as a final thought … ?

I tried watching a film, last night.

The Nicolas Meyer directed, made for TV, movie, The Day After.

I’d been meaning to watch it, after seeing Threads, last year: as I felt a ‘compare and contrast’ style of review would be an idea.

I got through the first forty minutes or so.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so bored in my life!

Threads?   Had a far smaller cast to keep track of: and seemed to be far better paced.

The Day After’s first forty minutes?

Had too many people standing around, listening to the radio.

As distressing as I found Threads†?

It was a far better watch than The Day After.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga‡, Mum¶ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        29th January is the earliest date Fat Thursday can fall.   What’s the latest: 4th March, 5th March or 6th March?

Q2)        More to the point, Fat Thursday is on which date, in 2024: 8th February, 9th February or 10th February?

Q3)        Ukrainian military students took part in the Battle of Kruty: on 29th January, 1918.   They faced a much larger force from which army: the US Army, the Red Army or the People’s Liberation Army?

Q4)        Kansas joined the Union: on 29th January, 1861.   Name any one of the US states to have a Kansas City …

Q5)        Finally … ?   Actor Tim Healy was born on 29th January, 1952.   He played Dennis in which series: Boys from the Black Stuff, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet or The Singing Detective?

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        28th January is Data Privacy Day.   It’s also known as Data what Day: Data Protection Day, Data Protonic Day or Data Proteus Day?
A1)        Date Protection Day.

Q2)        It’s observed in how many European nations: forty-five, forty-seven or forty-nine?
A2)        Forty-seven.

Q3)        The Data Protection Act 2018 is a data privacy law in which English speaking nation: the US, UK or Australia?
A3)        The UK.

Q4)        To help with online privacy, emails should be what: encased, enclosed or encrypted?
A4)        Encrypted.

Q5)        Finally … ?   There’s online privacy concerns about what: biscuits, buns or cookies?
A5)        Cookies.
Here’s a thought …
“I introduced Motown into this country on the pirate ships because nobody was playing it.”
Tony Blackburn, born 29 January 1943.
And some music …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        It’s now being advertised at £31·99: a lower price than I paid for it!

†        I also think Threads is one of the best films I’ve ever seen: but still found it distressing.

I’d imagine the tariffs could be circumvented, Olga: and there’s Customs relief, as well.   Whether a private person can claim that is another matter.
I think I’ve another Orwell quote coming, Olga: I’ll be leaving it for Debbi!   I’m just hoping I’m using the square brackets correctly!

        Hello, Mum!

§        I hope you’re right, Debbi!   Bigly!   I’d hate to think of him near the nuclear launch codes.   Again!
Oh, there’s another Orwell quote I found: in the same essay!
Political language […] is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.
“Politics and the English Language”, George Orwell.

Q2) 8th February

Q3) the Red Army

Q4) Missouri

Q5) Auf Wiedersehen
Great quote! I totally agree. I am sure there are ways around it. I have no idea about 4G recording, but I wonder if it might depend on the rest of the equipment you use and not exclusively on the camera.
