Right … my computer’s on-board speaking clock has just told me it’s 8·15.

Which mean’s it’s been some forty-five minutes since I got a call on my landline: from +491-7597572769

From what a Google search tells me, it’s a number in Germany.

With a caller — at the other end — claiming to be from BT, and who wanted to help block problems … by altering the settings on my mobile phone … 

It was a scam: after all, how many times do BT phone you … especially at that time of the morning … ?

What made this different?

Was that the scammer had an East European accent: rather than the more usual Indian accents I’ve heard from other scammers.

Hey … ho … !

It’s early on a Monday morning: so, of course, I’m off to my weekly weight management course.

I’ll have lost something: something I’ve not managed over the past couple of weeks.

I’m feeling slightly rushed.

I’m too easily distracted by silly games … and by the fact I’m boiling a lot of water: with bleach in it.

Yes: I’m bleaching my teatowels.

It might take a while.

But I’ve got plenty of time before my hygienist’s appointment.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-12-2021: The United Arab Emirates

2nd December, 2021.

Yes: it’s Thursday.

Thursday.

Which means … 

Well, several things.

But mostly that it’s the day after Wednesday: yesterday, in other words.

Yes: that’s the day I had a set of blood tests in the morning.

Two test tubes worth of blood: that’ll supply enough of my blood for six sets of tests, including a thyroid check, and a blood sugar levels: the ones I’m concerned about.

I hear about them in a week.

The OTHER thing, yesterday?

I had my official Covid booster jab.

So that’s done and dusted!

It’s all over, bar the soreness!

Stuff’s happening … 

On the sad front … ?

It’s been known about for awhile: but it’s now official.

Toisin Cole and Bradley Walsh will be leaving Dr Who in the New Year’s Special: going by the news on the BBC’s website.

I’ll be sorry to see them go.

As an extra thought … ?

I keep my eyes on news about Universal Credit: the benefit I’m on, as I’m not currently working.

It got raised by £20 a week in March of this year: and is due to go back down in March, 2021.

However?

According to Cornwall Live, that’s due to be reviews ‘in the new year.’

If the government’s sensible?

They’ll keep that boost in place.

For a variety of reasons, there’s roughly six million people who are unemployed, at the moment.

That could swing an election …

Right … I’m officially up early … !

Yay … 

It’s Monday, 2nd December, and I start my course … 

Just as a potted summary?   I’m job hunting at the moment.   And — if asked by the Job Centre — have to accept whatever form of help is felt to be needed.

I start mine, today: covering customer services, and other areas.

We’ll have to see how it goes.

Yep, it’s a wet Sunday morning: and frankly?

I’m at a loss for something to do … 

Well … 

I’ll possibly need to empty my bins at some point.

As well as do half a ton of stuff around the flat.

And … well … hang around … !

Saying that … ?

I have this bad habit of floating around the BBC’s news pages.

And couldn’t help but notice a couple of items.

First up … ?

It seems NHK, the national broadcaster of Japan, has announced its new 8K TV channel.

In other words, its new EXTREMELY high definition TV channel.

Not that everyone in Japan has the kit to watch it: for one thing, the sets need four HDMI cables to carry the signal.

But those who do will be able to watch a broadcast of 2001: A Space Odyssey in seriously stunning definition.

The other thing I noticed?

Apparently, a schoolboy in Burnham-on-Crouch managed to log onto a teacher’s laptop, copy a lot of confidential pupil data and share it with his friends.

Apparently, the school concerned has taken action to recover the data, and warn affected pupils and parents.

Now, I know I’m as guilty as anyone: of not locking my screen when I’m at home, or when I was at work.

Not that I get that many visitors … but most wouldn’t go anywhere near my desktop if I wasn’t in the room.   

Not that anyone I worked with, in my last job, would look at whatever computer I was working with.

But I’m very aware that screen locking — switching on a screen saver, and making sure  it can’t be turned off without a password — is good, basic practise.

So I’m not wondering how this has happened.

I’m convinced the teacher has been away from his desk, left his screen unlocked … 

And, somewhere in the class room?

Kids have been kids …

Is that it’s December.

Which is a start.

Is quite simply the amount of things I’m buying from Amazon!

Presents are always the the big clue.

Especially Star Wars posters.

Did you ever hear the late Sir Terry Pratchett refer to Alzheimer’s Disease — the condition he suffered with towards the end of his life — as ‘the embuggerence’?

I can’t say I’d blame him for digging up the old military term: it seems designed to describe the disease.

It took his life in 2015: and I, as many other, were heart-broken by the death of a man we’d never meet.

The reason I mention this, today … ?

Is that the condition’s taken another much loved star.

It’s been announced that 23rd December, 2016, saw the death of Andrew Sachs: best remembered for his role as Manuel, in Fawlty Towers.

But someone I remember as Toliver Groat: in the Sky TV version of Sir Terry’s Going Postal.

I think … well … 

I think the world’s a littler sadder, today …
