I went to work, yesterday.   And I’m back, again, today.

Was the phone call I got on the way to work.

From the shop repairing my sister’s laptop.

Seems they’ve managed to replace the graphics card: both ahead of the predicted time, and on budget.

So Ruth and I won’t get charged any extra.

All I have to do now?

Is pick the thing up.

Believe it or not, Sainsburys do a good one: as part of their Basics range.

I’ll tell you one thing, though.

They should maybe rebrand it as pipe-cleaner.

Mostly because it’s got two very good qualities.   It’s VERY high fibre.

And, BOY, but it makes you move … !

Pandorum: Blood, Guts and Deep Space Lunacy …

Remind me — one of these days — to tell you exactly how well McSebi Soft’s Pac the Man X goes with Status Quo’s 12 Gold Bars album.

At ANY rate, what was I going to tell you about?

I was going to tell you about the film I was watching, last night.

The 2009 science-fiction film, Pandorum.

Which was …

Quite something, I’m thinking …

Pandorum* sees Ben Foster as Corporal Bower: a member of the crew of the sleeper ship, Elysium, and a member of the crew who awakens from suspended animation with no memory of who he is.

It’s only when fellow flight crew member, Lieutenant Payton (Dennis Quaid) also awakens, he slowly begins to realise that they’re part of the crew on a ship destined to take the remains of the people of a heavily overpopulated Earth to an Earth-like planet called Tanis, that the two crew men realise that they can’t access the bridge.

Or the engine room, with its seriously unstable nuclear reactor.

And that some of the hibernating passengers appear to have been damaged in transit.

It’s only when Bower meets one or two other survivors he begins to realise that what and how he felt at the start of proceedings … isn’t quite the whole story …

Can I recommend Pandorum to you … ?

Yes, I think I can, actually.

OK, maybe it’s not the best sci-fi film on the planet: or best in class as a sci-fi horror, something I’ve also seen it called.

 I’ve also seen one or two unfavourable comparisons with Event Horizon on iTunes review pages.

Personally … ?

Personally I think that’s a little unfair to both.

And I’m ALSO thinking if you liked the latter — I know I certainly did — then you’ll find Pandorum an acceptably gruesome younger brother.

Great Balls Of Fire: What MORE do I say … ?

You know before I go any further, can I make a confession, or two … ?

Is simply that I’ve opened up one or two posts like that …

Is that I find the iTunes 10•1•1 Dock icon very similar to the Mac App Store icon.

I’m not complaining too much.

Firstly … ?

Because I can always move the two icons further apart, just to make sure I don’t get them mixed up.

And secondly … ?

I’ve found a freebie on there, called Pangea Arcade — Pangeasoft’s take on three old arcade games — that’s an absolute stunner.

Especially the one called Nucleus.

Shoaib, Myles, don’t go near it, trust me, you’ll get really distracted!!!!!!!!

I actually meant to tell you that Movie Night Adrian, Squeaky and I got a touch retro last night.

Depending on how you define retro, of course …

You see, Adrian managed to wonder over with the 1989, Jim McBride directed biopic that is — was … ? — Great Balls of Fire.

You’ve not seen it … ?

You can probably tell who it’s about, given the title …

Great Balls of Fire charts the early rise of Rock & Roll icon, Jerry Lee Lewis, played by Dennis Quaid.

Going from his early childhood friendship with his cousin, Jimmy Swaggart, it shows us how the pianist — and noted early hellraiser — is signed by Sam Phillips of Sun Records: and shows us the Killer’s career rapidly going up …

And almost as rapidly hitting the rocks, when, touring England a few years later, news that Jerry Lee has married his cousin leaks.

His thirteen year old cousin …

At any rate …

At any, rate, Great Balls of Fire, is a very entertaining film entertaining film, well worth catching.

Especially given the soundtrack.

I think we can leave the man himself to comment, can’t we … ?
