Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-1-2025 — The Holocaust

27th January, 2025: the Holocaust.

Yes: it’s officially official.

It’s Monday!

As the start of a whole new week, the start of a whole period that makes us another week older and wiser …

And a week where we’re allowed to make assorted ‘YAY’ noises.

Just maybe not that excited!

~≈🥳≈~

At any rate … ?

It’s a Monday.

And?

Excitable Yays* aside, it means it’s I’m off to my Weight Management meeting.

Hopefully?

I’d’ve lost weight.

~≈£≈~

Whilst writing this?

I’ve had Radio 4 on: early enough that the station’s Prayer for the Day played …

Obviously, today is Holocaust Memorial Day: so Rabbi Julia Neuberger was an appropriate choice of speaker.

Strangely, though?

She referenced Helen Fry’s The Walls Have Ears: the book about the operation that bugged the cells of senior German prisoners-of-war.

The reason I found it strange?

Was simply the co-incidence: I’m currently reading the book, and it’s fascinating stuff …

~≈👂🏻≈~

Just as a last thought … ?

That photo is the one I’ve used as a thumbnail for today’s Teaser video.

Because it’s striking.

Because of the man in the centre of the photo, the man who’s carrying a friend, and staring at the camera.

His expression caught my eye.

It seems to say “You knew.   You knew.”

Given the history?

The accusation is understandable …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th January 2024.

27th Jan Gary, 2024.

Right … it’s Saturday …

And I have to admit, I didn’t actually watch anything, last night.

I don’t know that I was in mood.

We’ll have to see what happens, over the next few days, I think.

~≈¥≈~

One thing I do know?

Is I’ve downloaded a couple of songs, over the past couple of days.

Moloko’s version of Numan classic, “Are ‘Friends’ Electric”, yesterday.

Followed by Republica’s, today.

I think I prefer Republica’s: it’s nearer the Numan original.

As does Saffron’s whole Tank Girl persona!

At any rate?

Feel free to give them both a listen.

~≈¥≈~

Just as a last thought … ?

I’ve now got the Wurzels’ version of “Don’t Look Back In Anger”, playing.

If you don’t get how strange that is … ?

Doing a Zydecko version of “Born to Run” would sound JUST as odd!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th January 2023 Teaser.

27th January, 2023.

Right …

Remember I mentioned the Warm Home Discount?

The £150 payment towards my fuel costs?

The one I didn’t get this year, as my flat’s too new, and too small, to qualify for it this time.

I … ?

Immediately put the proverbial word out to my neighbours.

And phoned local democracy reporter, Piers Meyler.

Who was interested: interested enough to pop in on me, yesterday, to get the full story: and a batch of photos.

As soon as he posts the story?

I’ll let you know.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-1-2022: Lewis Carroll

27th January, 2022.

Yes: I’ve got my nephew, Jude, coming over, today.

There’s a distinct possibility of videos being made: in case you couldn’t tell.

The last one has had thirty views: so hopefully?

We’ll be able to get a few more.

~≈Ç≈~

On top of that … ?

I’ve got a Zoom meeting, this morning: another in one of the two weight management programs I’m in.

I’ve lost a little: so that’s possibly a sign it’s working.

~≈Ç≈~

One bit of news I’ve noticed … ?

Is a change in conditions for those — like me — who are claiming Universal Credit.

Or, at least, for the newly unemployed who are just just starting to claim.

Up until today?   They would have three months from the start of their claim, in which to find work in their preferred field.

From today?

They have four weeks.

Apparently?   The idea is to get the half a million new vacancies filled, quickly.

The article doesn’t say what happens if these new job seekers don’t find a job.

Nor does it say what happens if companies don’t want to hire them: these no mention of tax breaks, for example.

Nor does it mention what rules changes apply for those of us who have been unemployed for some time.

It’s possibly something my case worker will tell me about, the next time we met.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th January, 2021.

27th January, 2021.

Right … it’s a Wednesday …

A Wednesday after I’ve had a dentist appointment: I had a filling, if you’re curious.

I’ve managed to bag a hygienist appointment, as well.

And an Amazon delivery.

More Marmite*, so you know.

And — amongst other things — a pair of toenail clippers, a blu-ray, some soda crystal — my drains need cleaning — a cuddly toy, a copy of Killing for Company …  …

And a copy of k. d. lang’s Ingénue: effectively, disc one of the version on Spotify.

It is still one hell of an album.

And Miss Chatelaine?   Possibly one of the best love songs going …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-1-2020: Mozart

27th January, 2020.

I have to say: it’s a Monday.

Apart from any potential laundry?

I have very little to do.

Well …

Bar stuff for the blog, and my usual jobhunting.

Given the situation with YouTube?

I’m thinking starting an extra torrent, and migrating videos over to it would be a good idea.

Once I can think of a name …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-1-2019: Leningrad.

27th January, 2019.

Tight … I’m up nice and early, today.

Actually, no, scrub that.

I’m actually up at my usual time.

I just got to bed, late, last night: after watching a movie.

King of Thieves, so you know.

I actually got finished writing the review of it … at one in the morning!

Yep: you’re right: I really want to go back to bed.

~≈§≈~

Oh, I have Radio Four on, this morning: as ever.

While I’m not especially religious?

I do find the Sunday morning services rather soothing to hear.

Especially the more old fashioned Anglican ones: today’s is about the Holocaust, as it’s Holocaust Memorial Day.

Something I’ll have to write a set about, one day.

At any rate, something in the news bulletin that caught my eye?   Was a piece about how Action Fraud — the organisation run by City of London police, to let people report fraud — have seen fraud go up, last year.

Somehow?

I’m not surprised …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27th January, 2018

27th, January, 2018.

Which is true …

That I hate early mornings.

Still, needs must, and all that: it is, after all, pay for rent, and dinner.

Right now, though?

I’m grateful I’ve got a teapot.

Lot’s of tea’s always appreciated …

~≈Ê≈~

Oh …

Apparently, various forms of slime are now the must-have toy: after a spate of slime based videos hit YouTube.

Apparently, and according to that news-piece, it’s an over night success, after a long time.

I should say so.

I can remember selling pots of similar products when I worked in a toy shop.

That was about thirty years ago …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 27-1-2016

I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go … !

No …

That’s possibly not the best thing to start with.

I think …

I’m very aware that Britain’s Prime Minister — Theresa May — is due to meet US President, Donald Trump.

I’m …

Concerned.

I voted remain, in the Brexit referendum: feeling Britain’s place in the world was improved by having close ties with Europe.

And by keeping a certain arm’s — with apologies to US born, regular Debbi — a certain arm’s length from US policy.

Things like the Iraq War?   Were done in George’s Bush’s name, not mine.

So seeing that meeting is happening?

And, like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, before him, that we have a US president enamoured of a UK leader, but who will put US national interests above those of the UK’s … ?

Is worrying.

There’s an argument that says our membership of the EU meant handing over two much control to foreign powers.

I feel a close relationship between May and Trump?

Represents a similar issue: we’d be handing to much control to a US government.

And is unhealthy for the UK.
