Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-2-2026 — Tulip Mania!

3rd February, 2026: Tulip Mania.

It’s Tuesday: and the day after my most recent weight management class.

Or meeting.

Or group …

I’ve never actually worked out what the damn thing’s called: I’ll ask a volunteer, next time I go.

At any rate … ?

At the most recent one, I found I’d lost half a kilo.

Which is good: last week I’d gained a kilo!

Heigh-ho!

~≈⚖️≈~

Right … I’m getting further along in a movie review: which is good.

I’ll hopefully have the written version done by tomorrow.

Once I’ve got that done, I can make the video … !

~≈🎥≈~

I’ve mentioned that I was having overheating issues: trying to record videos, whilst I had multiple Pages documents open.

And posted to Apple’s Community forums about the issue.

I also mentioned I’d had my doubts about the updates versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote, Apple’s iWork suite, as I was unsure about the associated subscription model: the one that allowed you to access premium content.

I’m not too worried about that, right now.

As the premium content is clearly marked: and there’s a window that opens up, reminding you you need to pay for whatever it you’ve clicked on.

That’s one less worry.

But, before updating to recent versions of the suite?

I’d also noticed that:

I’d get overheating whilst recording footage using Quicktime, whilst multiple Pages documents, open

I’d get overheating with at least two Pages documents open, and at least one Safari Window open: specifically the tab that let me post to Nik Nak Nak’s Old Peculiar.

I’d had a workaround for when I was recording: having two Pages files open — rather than the usual thirty or so! — and storing the files on my Mac, rather than in iCloud, seemed to prevent over heating.

But was still getting mild, but noticeable, overheating with the mix of Safari and Pages.

Thankfully?

The update to Pages 15.1 seems to have put a stop to the latter problem.

I’ll have to see what happens with the recording issue, later …

~≈🍎≈~

Just as a last point … ?

It seems there’s going to be an auction of Dr Who props in the not too distant future.

It’s also my birthday on 4th March.

Anyone who want’s to buy me a Dalek, would be welcome … !

Monday, 3 February 2025

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd February 2025.

3rd February, 2025.

We could possibly say this: that Monday is the first day of the week, that philosophers go wild about Mondays, that giants dance on Mondays and that stars fall.

We could say that.

But I suspect that if we did … we’d be talking out of our bottoms.

About all I can say … ?

Is yes: it’s Monday, I’m up early, my weight management meeting is today and that — considering I gained weight last week? — I’m hoping I’ve lost weight.

Heigh-ho!

~≈🏋️‍♂️≈~

I have to admit, I keep have an eye on the news: I don’t know many that don’t in some way, shape or form.

I can’t help but notice that the US President is imposing tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada, threatening to do so to the European Union …

And implying that he’s thinking about applying tariffs to UK goods.

Except’s one thing possibly preventing that.

The President thinks Sir Keir Starmer, the UK’s Prime Minister, “… has been very nice”, and that “we're getting along very well”.

I voted Green in the last election.

And think that — in retrospect — that was a good move.

I’d hate to vote for someone the President* approved of …

~≈🐘≈~

I’ve got to admit, I’m sceptical about ghosties, and goblins, and things that go bump in the night.

But?   I am watching a BBC series called Uncanny.

One hosted by a chap called Danny Robins, and that covers a person’s experiences of the paranormal: and their childhood experiences of various haunted houses.

Yes, this bears repeating: I’m, personally, sceptical.

But … ?

The two episodes I’ve seen are a great deal of fun, and very entertaining.

Which is the important bit …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-2-2024 — Mehmed 2nd

3rd February, 2024: Mehmed 2nd.

Yes: it’s officially Saturday.

And?

The theme tune to an old TV show has replaced the earworm I have banging around my head, yesterday.

Putting Republica’s version of “Are Friends Electric” could be an idea!

~≈♭≈~

Did I mention I’m on Quora?   The question and answer site … ?

I’m on the question and answers site, Quora: if you didn’t know.

Sometimes, it’s good to contribute what little you know — however accurate it is — to others.

One question I answered recently?

Was this one, about getting a Mac: I felt I could contribute.

What (mildly) shocked me, when doing the very basic research for it?

Was the price difference the online currency converter showed me.

The UK price for my model was some £650: about $840 dollars, at the time of writing.

The US price, $599?   Worked out at some £475!

I believe US prices don’t include sales tax, the US equivalent to VAT*, that UK prices have to include.

But even so: that difference is quite astounding!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd February 2023 Teaser.

3rd February, 2023.

Yes: it’s Friday.

And stuff will be occurring.

Not least of which … ?

Is the simple fact I’ve got my usual fortnightly meeting with my Job Centre case worker.

I managed to persuade my case worker to put it an hour: so that I could stay, to let in a repair man.

Who contacted me, yesterday.

They’re now turning up on the 17th!

~≈∑≈~

Talking of dates … ?

A few months ago — more than a few, by now — I put for extra help from the Job Centre: fully expecting a long haul.

Yesterday?

I got a letter from the court service: telling me a phone hearing had been scheduled in for 14.45 on the 8th March.

But, thankfully?

They’ve agreed to postpone it.

I’ve a doctor’s appointment on the 15th March: and wanted time to get extra evidence from her, and to send it off.

Here’s hoping.

~≈∑≈~

Oh, before I forget?

I’ve done a review … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd February, 2022

3rd February, 2022.

Right …

It’s a Thursday: which means I’ve got a weight management class, this morning.

Which is why I started this post early: the meeting’s on Zoom, and starts at ten.

I’d like to be on time, and dressed!

On top of that … ?

I’m half expecting an old friend, this afternoon: who needed some backing up down.

I’m expecting my nephew, this afternoon: there’s a distinct possibility of more videos …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd February, 2021.

3rd February, 2021.

Right …

The Universal Credit website is back up.

Thankfully.

I have to admit, I’m still curious to know what happened …

~≈®≈~

Frankly?

Right now, the weather’s … well, not damp.

But certainly looking unpleasant.

Which is awkward: I’ve an appointment, today.

Yes: I’m officially getting old enough to need my feet checked!

For All Mankind — Series 1 Episode 6 — Home Again — A Review

3rd February, 2020.

Hmmm …

I have to admit, I was at my usual job centre meeting, this morning.

I’m job-hunting at the moment: and have to report in, once every to to three weeks.

Not that it helps …

Much.

Frankly, at the moment … ?

There’s not much coming in!

~≈†≈~

At any rate … ?

One thing I can do … ?

Is keep myself entertained.

At the moment … ?

That’s by watching the riveting For All Mankind.

Right now, I’m on Series 1.

And yes: it’s still looking good …

~≈†≈~

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd February, 2020.

3rd February, 2020.

Yep: it’s officially official.

I’m having an early start.

It’s a Monday, it’s the 3rd of February … and I’ve my usual meeting at the Job Centre.

Frankly?

That’s not an issue.

The issue’s my mood.

Oh, don’t worry: I’m not feeling that bad.

But not being successful at interview, and the length of time I’ve been out of a job … ?

Is depressing …

~≈Á≈~

At least one minor nice point … ?

Is simply Youtube.

Whilst I haven’t started a prospective new channel, as yet?

The response I’m getting to the Dr Who Reviews I’m posting?

Is good: I’m getting comments …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd February, 2019

3rd February, 2019.

Did I mention I had an eye test on Thursday?

Yes, I did: he says, quickly checking the relevant post.

It’s one of. those times I’m grate I’m out of work: as the UK’s benefit’s system means I get a free eye Test …

And free spectacles: so long, of course, as each pair is under a certain price.

I’ve got three on order: one of which I paid for myself, out of the minimal savings I had.

The others … ?   Are the freebies: ones that are double the price.

Frankly?   I’m glad I went to the opticians I did go to.

The other three on Brentwood High Street … are comparatively expensive.

~≈§≈~

Just as a quick thought … ?   And not wanting to totally bore people with Brexit?

I note that — according to the news — Nissan are to pull investment in their plants in Sunderland.

At least, the investment that’s supposed to pay for setting up lines building their popular X-trail SUV.

It’s not explicitly made much of … but I get the impression that Brexit’s been influential in this.

If I’ve understood things, correctly, most companies rely on the Just in Time system to keep stock — and the associated costs — down.

Literally building things only when they’re ordered.

I think that’s possibly what the issue is.

The Backstop*.

Again, if I’ve understood things correctly, the uncertainty over getting parts over the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic, smoothly?

Means Nissan’s decided NOT to make that extra investment, until they know if they can do so, quickly, at little extra cost … and with the ability to export those goods back to the EU.

A hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic?

Would put a stop to that.

Personally … ?

Things like these have me convinced I made the right choice in voting remain.

But we in the UK made the wrong choice in voting to leave.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd February, 2018

3rd February, 2018.

Good … morning …

He says …

Yawning, gently … !

Right at the moment … ?

Right at the moment, I seriously wanting to go back to bed.

But, frankly … ?

Needs must.   I’ve got rent to pay: which means going out to earn the damn stuff.

The sad (ish) bit of it … ?

Is simply that I’m working on Monday night.

Which means I’ll miss the upcoming episode of the new series of The X-Files.

Still …

There’s always the catch-up service.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-2-2017: The Day The Music Died

You know, I don’t get political, often.

Really …

But I have been keeping an eye on the situation in the US.

It strikes me Donald Trump isn’t a president.   He’s a diplomatic incident: especially given that phone call!

At any rate?

Mr Trump’s put together an economic advisory board.

The few technology members of that board?

Have received criticism for going anywhere near it.

As Trump’s ban on immigration from seven Muslim majority countries has affected much of the US technology industry.

One company head to receive criticism?   Is Travis Kalanick of Uber.

Who’s now stepped down.

Personally?

I can only  politely applaud Mr Kalanick.

I know Mr Trump means well.   And get the impression that he has a desire to move manufacturing jobs back to the US.

I can applaud that, too.

But, beyond the ethics of the ban, itself?

It seems it’s harming other portions of the US economy.

I have to wonder whether Mr Trump has thought his policies through.

I get the impression he hasn’t …

The Daily Teaser — 3-2-2016

Oh, right …

That’s what happened … !

I don’t know if you’re in the UK: but I am.   And a customer of BT: British Telecoms, as was.

It provides both my phone and broadband.

And … ?   Yesterday … ?

It went down.

Which is embarrassing, when you consider the company provides internet services and phone lines to the bulk of the UK.   And provides the infrastrure — the phone lines, cables and junction boxes — to both home, business and government.

Obviously, things are slowly getting back up and running.   Which is why I’m now writing this.

But … ?   Well, BT are blaming a router failure, going by the article.

It seems a bit strange, that something so critical wasn’t checked …
