Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-1-2025 — Lord Byron.

22nd January, 2025: Lord Byron.

Right: it’s official: my boiler has been repaired.

The loss of pressure that caused the loss of heat and hot water was not caused by the problem I though was causing it.

I though it was a problem with a pressure valve.

Oh, no.

It was a jammed knob.

One that — as it turns out — I could have done myself … if I’d had an adjustable wrench.

At any rate … ?

My boiler’s now working.

About the only issues I have were that fact the repairman turned up at 20:30, after I’d phoned the repair in at 6:30.

And thet fact I’m trying to avoid any sentence with the word ‘twist’ or ‘knob’ in them.

It sounds ever-so-slightly naughty … !

In the wake of Axel Rudakubana, the Southport Killer, being sentenced?

I notice that there’s various points being discussed:
  • The ease he was able to buy knives.
  • The number of times he was referred to the counter-terrorism programme, Prevent.
  • And concerns about him passed to other authorities.
The one thing that caught my eye?

Was that he’d downloaded what’s described as an ‘al-Qaeda terror manual’ known as the ‘DECLARATION OF JIHAD [HOLY WAR] AGAINST THE COUNTRY’S TYRANTS’.

What I’m not surprised about … ?

Is how easy it is to get how of that …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22nd January, 2020.

22nd January, 2020.

Right …

I’m officially going to be indoors until one.

Hopefully?

At the latest.

My new boiler is now on my wall and working.

All I need, now?

Is the visit from the electrician: who’s going to be installing the thermostat.

Here’s hoping he’s early.

I’m assuming you have access to at least one streaming service: or, at least, follow the news about them?

Disney+ is one of the bigger ones to launch, recently.

But has done so, in patches.

It launched in November, in the US: and some other countries.

And HAD planned to launch in the UK, on the 31st March.

Well …

Disney’s decided to launch the UK version of its streaming service a week early: on 24th March.

The speculation is that Disney are doing the early launch: in order to reduce piracy.

Given the easy availability of fully loaded Kodi boxes*?

Given the easy access to torrents trackers like Pirate Bay?   And easy access to bit torrent clients like BitTorrent, µTorrent and Transmission?

I think Disney’s a bit late.

Pirates have already put The Mandalorian online.

Disney could have helped themselves by having a global launch: on one, universal, date …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-1-2017

I JUST had a hairy moment.

A metaphorical one: I’ve got some entertaining male baldness patterns inherited form somewhere … !

I‘ve woken up, this morning …

To find my light had gone green.

On my router …

I double checked the manual.

Those lights mean the thing had just restarted.

Why?

I’m blowed if I know.

But it’s …

Odd.

And, beyond needing me to wait, while the thing booted up, and re-connected to the net?

The thing seems to be working fine.

But, given my history with routers?

NOT something that was welcome …
