Right … I’m officially up earlier than normal: and thinking a dose of the ’flu — or whatever it is I actually have — doesn’t help!

But … ?

My nephew heading over early, today, means I’m up early, my self.

Do you get the feeling there’s going to be slightly grumpy video making, today?

Oy … !

Of course, I’ve got the radio on.

Or, at least, got Radio Four’s Today programme on.

Something that caught my (metaphorical) eye?   Or ear, at least?

Was a piece that told us AstraZeneca and the UK’s medical regulators have withdrawn approval for the 5ml dosage of a drug called Dapagliflozin — brand name, Forxiga — for patients with type one diabetes.

Or, at least, withdrawn the indication for it to be used.   I’m assuming that’s functionally identical with ‘withdrawing approval.’

Apparently?

There’s no safety concerns involved.

And those of us — like me — who are taking Forxiga to treat Type Two diabetes should continue taking it.

Quite what’s going on there … ?

I don’t know.

Right … I’m officially baby sitting my nephew, this afternoon.

Which will be fun and games!

Or, at least, see a hell of a lot of videos by Jelly, being watched.

It should be an interesting afternoon.

I can’t help but notice — the UK’s Justice Secretary is getting interviewed on Radio 4’s Today programme as we speak — that the Government’s announced it will be toughening prison sentences.

Violent offenders will have to serve more of their sentence.

Younger offenders will be given longer sentences.

What have you.

From where I’m sitting?

That means more offenders in prison … alongside no announcements about building more prisons.

What am I not surprised?

Yep: it’s officially the case.

I have an interview, today: in Romford.

I’m … nervous, as ever.

And, frankly, right at the moment?   I’d rather not go.

That’s my self confidence for you …

You’ll possibly have realised — over the years — that I’m something of a Mac fan: and one that’s been mildly critical of macOS Catalina.

There’s possible improvements coming: possible improvements.

As, at this year’s WWDC conference, Apple have announced the autumn release of macOS 11 Big Sur.

According to Wikipedia?   Should work on my machine.

Whether it’s an improvement … ?

Only time will tell.

The Godfather: A Review

14th November, 2018.

Yes … 

It’s another night as a gentleman of leisure.

As you’ve possibly guessed.

Right at the moment,  I’m off work: and job hunting.

And worrying like hell about where my next bit of cash is coming from.

Cash?

Hell, worrying about my next meal is on the proverbial menu, as well.

Not that worry is doing me much good, right now.

Once unemployment kicks in long term … ?

Well, that’s when I’ll start having issues: health AND financial.

At any rate?

I’ve been keeping myself occupied job hunting: and am thinking that heading into Romford, or Billericay, handing out my CV could be good.

Or bad, depending.

I’m ALSO thinking — as I have, so many times before — that putting my CV on this blog could be good.

Or bad.

I might just have to ask my work coach: the job centre appointed mentor who’s supposed to suggest options for me to explore.

It might be an idea.

At any rate, I’ve job hunting keeping me busy.

AND the usual teasing writing, laundry, cleaning … 

And as I have some free nights … ?



Catching up with a movie or two seems an idea.

Given the subjects of today’s Teaser?   Tha Apalachin Meeting?

Something nefarious seemed in order.

Some with suspicious looking Italian Americans.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-11-18: The Big Pow Wow.

14th November, 2018.

My hair is quite definitely a mess.

Which possibly means just the one thing, at the moment.

I’m going to have to wait for it.

As you’ll possibly know, by now?

I’m job-hunting: just started job-hunting, in fact.

So, right now?

I’m waiting to hear about any benefits I’m due: including when the first payment will get to me.

AND start the process of putting in any hardship payments.

AND moving various payments around. 

And … and … and … 

It’s an eternal and, frankly.

That … 

On top of the gap between my last wages from work — on Friday — and my first, full benefit payments.

Well … 

Time to get a move on …

Gangster Squad — Sometimes, Old School’s the best Way to Go …

You know, sometimes, it’s good to catch a movie.

No, really: it’s good to catch a movie, it really is.

Usually, there’s only one thing better, sometimes.

That’s catching a movie, in company.

If you run that past Kevin D, he’ll hopefully tell you exactly the same thing.

And, given it’s been a while since he was over, I’m glad he happened to mentioned he had both a free evening: and had spotted a couple of titles on the iTunes store that he felt would make for entertaining watches.

I’m glad he did.

I know I was glad of the company, tonight.

Actually … ?

I’m both glad of the company … and the movies he thought of.   One of which, the 2012, Ruben Fleischer directed, Gangster Squad.

I have to say, they don’t make them like that anymore.

So it’s nice to see SOMEONE give it a go!

Now, you’re probably wonder about that phrase, aren’t you … ?

Let me try and summarise.

Gangster Squad sees Josh Brolin as Sargent John O’Mara: a tough and unconventional LA cop who’s given one job: that of assembling a team of equally tough cops, in order to use the most unconventional methods possibly to take down Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn.)

Very unconventional: including raiding several of Cohen’s casino’s and nightclubs: sans warrants, but with blazing machine guns, and masks.

Until, one day … ?   One day, Cohen realise’s he’s being bugged … and set up … 

And decides to break out the heavy mob … !

Now, I said they don’t make them like that any more … ?

I’m right, I think: they don’t.

That is — depending on your taste for these things — either a good or bad thing.

But I think both myself and Kevin agreed, last night: that Gangster Squad is a very old school gangster film, with parts broadly reminiscent of The Magnificent Seven*, and the original TV version of Dragnet†.

Old school.   Possibly mildly unoriginal.   And with more blazing machine guns than you can shake Edward G Robinson at … 

But, my God, it was fun … !

I mentioned, this morning, that I’d managed to sleep through my alarm.

There’s a reason for that.

Myself and Movie Night Adrian were watching a film, last night, and I was up a touch later than I maybe should have been, bookmarking some of the more immediately relevant pages.

Ones I wanted to add to this post, to help clarify — hopefully — what I’m going to say.

The film we saw … ?

Was the Gary Fleder directed, Scott Rosenberg penned, Things To Do In Denver, When You’re Dead.

Something that both I and Adrian agreed made Pulp Fiction look hopelessly overrated … !

No, seriously … !!

It’s like comparing a Maserati to a Ford Edsel … !

Ahem …

I think I’d better calm down and tell you about this, hadn’t I … ?

Before I fill this post up with needless dots … … … …
