Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-4-2026 — Casanova

2nd April, 2026: Casanova.

It’s officially official: it’s Thursday.

And?

I’ve got my usual quarterly diabetic review, later: the review where I find out my most recent blood test results.

Hopefully … ?

They’ll be ok.

~≈🩸≈~

We can safely say that my nephew, Jude, was here, yesterday, is getting slightly handy with Final Cut Pro, and thoroughly enjoying the app’s ability to alter sound effects.

I just wish I’d thought to ask him one thing.

“Jude, what is that trumpet noise you keep using … ?”

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2nd April 2025.

2nd April, 2025.

It’s officially Wednesday.

So … ?

I can officially say that I’m between reviews!

Tonight?

I’m going to watch episode two of classic Dr Who story, The Savages.

I should have that up by tomorrow.

Last night … ?

I managed to get a review finished … of — of all things — Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs.

Heigh ho.

Or should I say hi-ho … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-4-2024 — Hans Christian Andersen

2nd April, 2024: Hans Christian Andersen.

Right …

It’s officially Tuesday …

And, frankly?

I think I have stuff to do.

Filling in forms is one thing.

For starters, I believe Southend’s Essential living fund has re-opened.

Which could be useful.

I’ve also got to take some paperwork into the Council.

Hopefully?

That will go well.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-4-2023 — World Autism Awareness Day.

2nd April, 2023: World Autism Awareness Day.

Yes: it’s Sunday.

And events will no doubt be eventuating as they should.

Personally?

One (minor) event for me … is simply that I’ve turned the radio off.

I’ve been finding it more and more distracting, recently: and honestly couldn’t tell you why!

~≈€≈~

That’s not the only event.

Or possibly, non-event.

I had a tribunal on Thursday: appealing a benefits decision that had gone against me.

I’m due to get a decision — by post — 7th April, this year.

This coming Saturday, in other words.

I’m expecting sweet FA.

I’m hoping for extra financial help: but, expecting nothing.

And … ?

Not knowing?   Whilst longingly staring the the sort of things I’d need — or would like — to buy* … ?

Is frustrating … !

~≈€≈~

One LAST event … ?

I’ve finished — and posted — a review of the next episode of Star Trek: Picard.

Feel free to hit the like button!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-4-2022: Haile Selassie.

2nd April, 2022.

Hmmm …

It’s got to be said, April’s prices rises … ?

Aren’t necessarily good.

Frankly?

I’d maybe have my heating on for a few minutes after I get up: at least, in April.

The rises … ?   Couldn’t have come at a worse time, from where I’m sitting.

They’ve turned up … just when there’s a cold snap.

Yum!

~≈🥶≈~

I’m not gay, so you know.

I am left handed: and, like many of us, will have heard of, or known, people who’ve been forced to use their right hands by assorted school teachers, over the years.

I know at least two.

I can also remember at least one school teacher at primary school repeatedly asking ‘Wouldn’t you find it easier in your other hand?’

So … ?   I don’t like the idea of forced conversions.

From left to right, or gay to straight: that’s equally as wrong, I feel.

As you may or may not know?   There’s a thing called conversation therapy: that aims to turn gay people straight.

It’s usually performed by various right-of-centre churches, usually seen as unsuccessful, and usually seen as both unscientific and unethical.

The little I know of forcing people to change handedness tells me there’s an increased chance of someone developing a stutter as a result: of minor neurological damage.

So I wonder if there’s similar damage being done by conversion therapy: on top of any psychological damage it may do.

At ANY rate … ?

Yesterday, the Government decided to introduce legislation to ban conversion therapy.   Then changed their mind, and decided not to.

Then, after a back bench and opposition backlash?

Decided to introduce the withdrawn legislation, banning the practise in the process.

At least … the legislation bans using conversion therapy on gay, lesbian and bisexual people … but not transgender people.

Which is another argument waiting to happen.

The flip flopping leaves me thinking this;
  1. Including transgender people in the bill obviously has caused back stage arguments.   Whether we’re pro- or anti- transgender rights, it’s a famously controversial subject.
  2. The bill’s not perfect: but is a start on outlawing an odious practise.
  3. The Government is worse than wrong: it’s indecisive.
I’m probably not the only person to think an indecisive is the worst form of government going.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-4-2021: Good Friday

2nd April, 2021: Good Friday.

Yep: I’m officially avoiding buns.

Sweet ones: you know, sugared/caramel/chocolate covered buns.

Especially ones of an Eastery nature.

It’s the Diabetes: I can’t have ’em!

Quite what I’m supposed to do with the fridge of chocolate bars, I couldn’t tell you!

~≈🍫≈~

I don’t know about you: but I do the every occasional survey.

Very occasional: and mostly in the hope of a reward/

The two main ones I’m doing?

One pays out Amazon vouchers: fairly frequently.

The other, after I’ve built up five thousand points.

I did one of the latter ones, this morning.

Frankly?   I think at least ONE question was a heavily disguised advert!

Star Trek Picard — Series 1 Episode 7 — Nepenthe — A Review

2nd April, 2020.

Hmmm …

I’m having a problem, here.

Or was.

I was trying to find a way to open this post.

Telling you I’m having trouble starting it?   Seems as good a way as any, to start.

At any rate, I’m in the UK: life under lockdown is …

Well, quiet: the trains are running a Sunday shrive, the traffic’s a lot quieter … and the neighbours don’t seem to be out much.

Personally?

I’m still job hunting, laundering …

And frankly?

Watching TV.

And frankly?

Watching yet another episode of Star Trek Picard, series one.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-4-2020: Charlemagne

2nd April, 2020.

Yay!

He says, with only half an ounce of irony.

I’ve had some updates!

On a serious note, Apple have — this morning — issued updates to their iWork suite.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote, in other words.

Frankly, I’m looking forward to exploring some of the new features in both Pages and Keynote.

I use both to write the Teasers: Pages for the actual text, and Keynote’s ability to export files as images and simple animations for the videos.

It’s …

It’s possibly a sign of the times: I’m looking forward to using a word processor!

~≈†≈~

Are you’re in the UK … ?

If, like me, you are, you’re aware of the situation with the Corona virus.

And aware that many — out of work in the Lockdown — have applied for Universal Credit.

A million, in the past two weeks.

I’m on UC, myself: having been out of work for the past couple of years.

I must admit, I’m sympathetic: I really am.

No one likes being out of work, whatever the reason.

Like I say, I’m sympathetic …

But also concerned.

After all, the payment system is going to come under a lot of strain, over the next few weeks.

I’d like my cash to get through, thanking you!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2-4-2019: International Children’s Book Day

2nd April, 2019.

Yes: I’m going into town, today.

And registering with a local temp agency: who say they have something local for me.

OK: I get the impression that the job concerned really is temporary.

But could be something to add to the CV.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2nd April, 2018

2nd April, 2018.

Yes, I’m officially back at work, today: although whether that’s wise?   Is something else.

Hopefully?

I’ll be functional enough to get by.

Either way?

I’ve had a couple of days off, and feel … rather rested.

Mind you … I get manage to get an early night, last night: so that’s all good.

~≈§≈~

Just as a quick extra thought: that I wanted to get on the record?

I’ve a set top box hooked up to my: that lets me access HD channels, and record them to a USB stick.

Using my older machine — plus Mpeg Streamclip, to edit the pieces together — I could edit the bits together, and get a watchable file I could play on my AppleTV.

The box recorded a programme in chunks, I should add: the reason I needed to edit things together.

The results?   Were OK: but you could see the joins.

Last night?   As I still had Twice Upon a Time on the USB stick plugs into the box?

I gave thought trying out the basic video editing capacities on the new iMac a go.

The files, themselves?   Were Transport streams: easily converted into mp4s with Handbrake.

Then … ?   Edited together with iMovie 10·1·8.

And came out as an eight gigabyte sized, but flawless looking, mp4.

Result!

The Daily Teaser — 2-4-2016

That’s a thought … Did I tell you I’ve got a fourth generation Apple TV?

I didn’t … ?

I do.

And I have to admit, the fact you can get the odd game for it … ?

Is rather good.

Especially when you consider Sega have recently released Sonic The Hedgehog for the device.

That, and the fact the hard to find — up until now — Sulk, by the Associates, has finally been released on iTunes?

Has made my weekend.

Now …

Has someone got an Apple TV compatible game controller going begging?

I THINK I’m going to need one …
