Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd May 2026

3rd May, 2026.

It’s officially official: we now know — after last night’s semi-final — that Snooker’s 2026 World Championship final will be between Shaun Murphy and Wu Yize.

It looks like I was wrong, there: I went on the record to say it would be Wu vs John Higgins … !

How wrong can I be … ?

I have no idea!

I think Wu’s going to walk away with the trophy.

But could easily be wrong … again … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd May 2025.

3rd May, 2025.

Hmmm …

I think we can say I had an evening, last night: one with not a lot of sleep.

For various reasons.

I think I really need to learn various thing: including how not to get mugged off!

Heigh-ho!

~≈🍺≈~

You’ll possibly have realised I’ve been watching Dr Who, these past few weeks.

And … ?

Looking forward to tonight’s episode: which features a returning Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson.)

I’m also very aware the Mark Williams vs Judd Trump semi-final could be interesting.

Especially as whoever gets through will not be facing Ronnie O’Sullivan, the game’s greatest player, but Zhao Xintong: the man who beat him.

This could be a Chinese player’s year.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-5-2024 — Washington.

3rd May, 2024: Washington.

It’s official: it’s Friday!

Which … is possibly not important.

What IS important?

Is the fact I applied for help paying my council tax: a couple of months ago.

Yesterday?

I got a letter from the council: telling what supporting evidence they needed.

I’m going to have to check on if I can email that over!

It’s going to be cheaper than printing the files out at the library!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-4-2023 — The Godfather.

3rd May, 2023: James Brown.

You’ve heard of artificial intelligence, haven’t you?

The idea that computes can — if I’ve understood things correctly — can think for itself, and learn along the way.

Assuming ‘think’ is the right word, of course!

And you’ve possibly also heard of ChatGPT: the AI chatbot that’s causing waves.

I’ve used it once: to help me generate some quiz questions.

And — this morning — to ask about diabetes: getting a couple of worryingly coherent answers in the process.

Well, I say worrying.

Possibly I shouldn’t be: as the things answers seemed cogent, helpful … and clarified a couple of points for me.

I know people worry about this area, though: one factor writers are worried about — in the current Hollywood script writers strike — is the potential use of AI to write scripts.

How this will turn out?

I don’t know.

I do know that — many years ago — the late Isaac Asimov wrote the Three Laws of Robotics*: a basic set of rules for AI computers and robots.

Yes: I know there’s a lot of fuss about the safety — or dangers — of AI.

But think those sixty-seven words of Asimov’s are the shape of the future.

AI will have what other forms of human technology will have.

Safety features.

I just can’t help but think of an old line from Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather will crop up on the way.
“Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.”

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-2-2022: Washington

3rd May, 2022.

Yes: it’s officially official.

Ronnie O’Sullivan’s won this year’s Snooker World Championship at the Crucible, last night.

Winning a record equalling seventh title.

I’ve got to admit, he was a bit of a diva at some points.

But?   Congratulations to him.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd May, 2021

3rd May, 2021.

It’s officially official: today is — in the UK — a public holiday.

Which means … ?   Well, not a lot, from where I am.

It’s another day, and another — ha! — dollar.

Saying that … ?

At least the snooker World Championship’s on.

Mark Selby’s leading Sean Murphy 10-7, at the moment.

In other words?

It’s not over yet.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels — Series 1 Episode 2 — Dead People Lie Down — A Review

3rd May, 2020.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of vegetables, must be in want of a pot.

Or something to cook them in.

Frankly?

I’m a single bloke who is just getting the hang of cutlery …

Cutlery and cooking pots.

Yeah …

You possibly don’t want to imagine how taken me to get the hang of boiling carrots …

~≈⇪≈~

At any rate … ?

This is not a cookery blog.

If it was, I’d doubt I’d get much in the way of traction.

Not with my limited cookery skills.

No …

This … isn’t coo …

No, wait, I’m burbling!

It’s Sunday night.

And … ?

And I’ve just caught the second episode of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels first series …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-5-2020: Bing

3rd May, 2020.

It’s officially official: I’ve scraped together enough money to buy …

A pot!

Yes, I know that’s trivial: but it don’t half help with cooking vegetables.   I can microwave one lot, while boiling the others.

Plus, of course, I couldn’t see the type I wanted in Sainsbury’s.

Basically?

It’s a saucepan: with two pouring spouts, one on each side of the pot.

I’m fussy about this sort of thing: because I’m left handed.

A pan with two spouts, like an electric kettle with see-through measures on both sides?

Is a must-have.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-5-2019: Gone with the Wind.

3rd May, 2019.

It’s true … the inevitable has happened …

My stepfather died, yesterday*.

I’m …

Sad, obviously.

Although …

Can I make a confession?

We’d actually lost touch, after he and my mother divorced, around my late teens.

I don’t think we’d talked, beyond my mid-twenties.

Some thirty odd years ago.

I did know he was ill, though: and missed a chance to see him, yesterday.

I found out about that possible visit, too late to cancel the dental appointment.

I honestly wanted to see him at least once more, though: knowing there possibly wasn’t long.

I honestly thought there’d be more time, though.

Isn’t that always the way?

The really saddening thing …

Is that we always think there’s more time.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3-5-2017

I think, at the moment … ?

The word is phew … !

Why … ?

Because, yesterday … ?

My hard drive failed.

As you can possibly imagine, I was just a little bit … you know …

Frantic … !

Thankfully … ?

I’ve managed to use a combination of Recovery Mode and Time Machine to copy the information on the dying main drive to the newer drive I’d picked up a few weeks ago.

The new drive is working well.

The old one?

Will have to be securely disposed of with a sledgehammer, given I can’t use Disk Utility on it.

Right now?

I have a functioning computer.   One with a drive that’s not making ominous clicking noises.

Now …

Phew … !
