Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th August 2025

24th August, 2025.

Yay!!

It’s Sunday … !

And … ?

The last bank holiday weekend before Christmas.

You can tell two things, right now.

One?

I’m excited!

Two?

My weight management meeting is off, tomorrow.

Which means I get an hour, extra, in bed.

Three?

I can’t afford to go to the Notting Hill Carnival.

Which is good: I don’t have the hips for the costumes …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th August 2024.

24th August, 2024.

It’s officially official: I’ve had a haircut!

Or, at least, just about managed to afford a haircut, a jar of Marmite from Amazon, and an electric screwdriver.

Sometimes?

You really need to work to unscrew a lid!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th August 2023.

24th August, 2023.

Right … it’s Thursday.

And?

My bills are paid: and the utilities are topped up.

Which was worrying me, if I’m honest.

At any rate … ?

I’ve a meeting today: with a charity called Peabody.

Hopefully, they’ll be able to help with my Personal Independence Payment claim.

~≈¥≈~

Over the past few days … ?

There’s been a lot made about the death of a little girl called Sara Sharif.

She was found dead, a few days ago, in the family home in Surrey: a home that had been seemingly abandoned by the rest of her family.

It seems her father, step mother and uncle had fled to Pakistan: whilst making a ‘Concern for Welfare’ call to local police.

Various things have come out, since reporting started.

Including reports that one neighbour had been told the little girl was being home-schooled: and, when she had been seen at school, had been seen with injuries.

I’m not someone who’s connected to the case: just someone saddened by some tragic news.

But also someone who’s wondering something: something not mentioned in all the press I’ve seen.

Where’s the girl’s mother in all this … ?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th August, 2022.

24th August, 2022.

It’s definitely a quiet day.

Well …

I say quiet.

I’m expecting my nephew, Jude, over, later.

Quiet possibly won’t be the word.

At ANY rate: you’ll find his latest YouTube short, here.

~≈≈~

Talking of Jude?

You’ll possibly have realised he likes the football game, FIFA 22.

And looking forward to the updated version — FIFA 23 — when it’s released.

He’s pre-ordered it: at some £72.   Or there about.

He’s mildly jealous of people in India, though.

Due to a mistake in the placing a decimal point, the game’s manufacturers, EA Games, made it available for ₹4·8.

About 5p.

Then announced they’d honour that.

Jude wasn’t exactly happy … … … … … …

~≈≈~

Talking of money … ?

I got the £150 energy rebate, a few months ago.

It’s long since been spent, I should add.

But … ?

It seems some people are still waiting for it.

Frankly?

That’s …

Not good.

Censor — A Review

24th August, 2021.

Any minute now … ?

I am going to get into bed.

I’ve noticed that the older I get?

The more an early night appeals.

But, before I do … ?

I wanted to make sure I do my usual thing on an evening like this.

Make sure I’d started on a movie night post: to remind myself I’ve seen a film …

And that I wanted to tell you about it.

Tonight’s film?

The 2021 Prano Bailey-Bond directed, Censor.

Arguably, it could be better … but is very good for a first timer …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-8-2021: Oh, Mr Fry … !

24th August, 2021.

It’s officially official.

I didn’t get everything done in I need to do, yesterday.

At least, in Brentwood High Street.

Oh, I got the bills paid, and appointment done.

But have to go back, today … to get shopping.

I hate shopping … !

~≈¥≈~

Politics … politics, politics, politics.

You’re possibly aware I’m job hunting, at the moment, and on Universal Credit, the main benefit for those of us who aren’t working.

When we are … ?   Universal Credit has a taper.

In other words, the benefit’s means tested: you lose sixty-three pence for every pound you earn.

Labour have announced that they would alter this in low paid workers favour: should they win a general election.

Labour also said they’re going to fight the removal of the £20 uplift “with every tool at our disposal.”

But not said whether they’d restore it, once in power.

That’s a fat lot of good, to me.

They’re not in power, right now, and no-one’s offering me job: so the alteration in the taper is a moot point.

They’re in opposition, right now, and seemingly doing nothing that uplift.

And it sounds like they won’t … if they’re in government, in the future.

In my personal opinion?

They, and the Conservatives, are as bad as each other.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th August, 2020.

24th August, 2020

Yep: it’s Monday!

Which means — potentially — I could hear about the funding I’ve applied for: for the course I’m doing …

Frankly?

I’m convinced I won’t: these things do take their time!

It’s going to be a waiting game!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th August, 2019

24th August, 2019.

You know, every-so-often?

I’ll quietly ask a friend or two to have a look at the intro videos: just to get an opinion or two.

Which is what I did with yesterday’s intro video.

It is — apparently — spooky.

Ho-hum … !

~≈§≈~

Hmmm …

Are you a smoker?   Or a recovering smoker. like me?

Or, at least, someone who uses e-cigarettes?   Who vapes, in other words?

The things are believed to be safer than smoking traditional cigarettes: as we’d not be taking in the tar products associated with tobacco.

Something I know I’ve believed.   But with the proviso that I didn’t know the health effects of vaping … yet*.

Well, something that’s caught my eye … ?

Was this piece on the BBC’s news site.

The first death blamed on vaping has been recorded in the US state of Illinois.

Quite what I make of that?   I don’t know, yet.

I’ll be keeping an eye on it, though …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-8-2018: Jean-Michel Jarre

24th August, 2018.

I’m definitely feeling a bit dicky this morning, I really am.

The usual trouble: the innards are playing up, again.

To the point where I might just have to phone in ill: I’d rather not be too far away from a toilet …

The shame of it … ?

Is simply that last night — eating the dinner I think caused the flare up … ? — went well enough that I caught a movie.

Split, so you know.

That was rather good …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-8-2017

Mmmm …

I’m …

Thing …

Wosname …

Feeling MIXED …

So you know.

Frankly?

This morning, I’m having to wait in for an electrician: who’s due to replace the light fitting in the hallway.

He’s due to turn up, anytime between now — 8am — and 1 o’clock.

At the end of it?

It means I’ll hopefully have a working light.

But will mean I’m going to be stuck indoors, ’til he’s gone.

I hate that.

I’ll be getting cabin fever!

House of Cards — Series 4: Episode 1, 2 and 3, (Chaptsrs 40, 41 and 42)

24th August.

You know …

There’s possibly one thing I’d not have called myself, over the years.

Actually, there’s several things I’d’ve called myself, over the years.

One of the things I don’t call myself is a video gamer: at least, not a hardcore one.

No, I TEND to play casual video games: the likes of Tetris, and Pacman.

Beyond that … ?   Beyond THAT, I tend to spend my spare time with a film or two.

Or a book: the current bedtime reading?   Is Wells’ The Time Machine: still an utter dribbling classic.

Or I’ll watch a TV series.

You’d’ve worked that out, over the years.

That I’ll happily sit down with Dr Who, with Merlin, The Fades.

And, for a change of pace?

I’ve started watching series four, tonight.

Yep … It’s back … !

~≈Ç≈~

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-8-2016

Anyone need a spare monitor?

I’ve a two monitor set up on my desktop machine: something I’ve had for a couple of years, now, and found useful.

A couple of days ago?   A couple of days ago, something went wrong with the refurbished screen I was using as an extra monitor.

The volume controls — it was a model with built in speakers — popped up: and stayed up.

I’ve managed to replace it: with a new one from my local CeX.

My problem?   Is what to do with the old one.

Anyone who thinks they can get it working is welcome to the thing!
