Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th April 2025.

26th April, 2025.

Right … It’s Saturday …

Which means … ?

It means that — as ever — it’s Doctor Who Day.

“The Well” looks interesting …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-4-2024 — Landing.

26th April, 2024: Landing.

Yay!

It’s officially Friday!

Which means … not a lot, actually.

Bar finishing my reviews of last night’s episode of Star Trek Discovery.

That?

Was an interesting episode.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th April 2023.

26th April, 2023.

Hmmm …

It’s Wednesday: and possibly the day to do stuff.

Possibilities included doing some paperwork at Brentwood Library … and possibly shopping.

Oh, and definitely putting some money on the gas and electric: my cost of living payment’s gone through.

That helps!

~≈£≈~

Talking of money … ?

Which we weren’t, but there you go.

Talking of money, I’ve had to use food banks, in the past: there’s a couple in Brentwood, and, according to a news report, today … ?

A record number of people have been using them.

Additionally?

The Trussell Trust, the charity that runs many of them, has called on the Government to increase rates of Universal Credit: in line with ‘essential costs’.

Good for them.

But?

~≈£≈~

Oh, I may — or may not — have mentioned the road works going on in my street.

I now have a better idea of what’s going on.

It looks like extra cabinets for internet connections.

According to the gossip?   Boxes for Virgin Media.

I can only hope those of us who use BT’s network to access the ’Net can get some traffic routed through them.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-4-2022: The Bard’s Baptism

26th April, 2022.

It’s officially the case: I have nothing to do, today.

Beyond making a couple of phone calls.

Oh, and job hunting, Teaser writing, and possibly watching a film.

We’ll have to see.

I’ve got access to the recently released The Batman, and to Spider-Man: No Way Home.

We’ll have to see.

But just as a thought?

Spider-Man: No Way Home is two and a half hours.

The Batman’s five minutes shy of three hours!

You have to ask, don’t you?

With films that length, how is your bladder capacity?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-4-2021: Chernobyl.

26th April, 2021.

Right … I’m up stupidly earlier.

Or, at least, comparatively stupidly early … for me.

There’s a reason for that.

If you’ve been read Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar for a while, you’ll realise I’m job hunting.

For some time, now.

You’ll also be aware that I have to report in to the local job centre: by phone, for the past few months.

And that I’ve been signed up to a Work and Health Programme run by the Shaw Trust: that’s also, usually, been a set of phone meetings.

I was expecting my next phone meeting with the Shaw Trust, today.

At least I was … until yesterday, when I got my most recent reminder.

That told me my next meeting, today’s meeting, is a face to face one in the community centre in Knights Way.

At the VERY last minutes: and with no details of whether my bus fare would get refunded.

I’ll be going to the thing: I’d face sanctions if I didn’t.

But I’ll be honest, I’m not happy I’ve been told about a change: at the last minute.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels — Series 1 Episode 1 — Santa Muerte — A Review

26th April, 2020.

Yes: it’s a definite … I’ve had dinner … !

Just in case you were wondering about what I was cooking, during the recording of that intro video … !

Peas, a baked spud … and some mince … if you must know.

Am I a good cook?

Possibly not …

Although I doubt that, were I to do dinner for you … ?   I doubt I’d end up poisoning you.

I don’t know if you’d enjoy the food, but you’d still be alive at the end of the meal.

At any rate … ?

I’ve not sat down with a good TV show for a while: but knew Penny Dreadful spinoff, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels was due out, today.

If the first episode of the first series is anything to go by … ?

This could be good!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th April, 2020.

26th April, 2020.

Yep!

I’ve got another one!   Possibly.

A few weeks ago, now, I joined Instagram: purely to try and advertise Nik Nak’s Old Peculiar.

And read, re-read and double re-read their advice on scammers on the platform: after getting a couple of deeply suspicious message.

From deeply suspicious users.

I’ve had about one a day for the past few days.

I’ve had another one, today.

She’s got a very attractive profile picture …

And her first name … ?   Is Andrew.

She got blocked …

~≈†≈~

Just as a thought … ?

I mentioned my Love Songs list, the other day: you can find it here.

The reason I mentioned it … ?

Is simply that I didn’t add this tune from Fiddler on the Roof.   It’s just the song about a relationship that hasn’t collapsed, and is working well enough …

Talk about your goosebumps!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26th April, 2019.

26th April, 2019.

Right …

I’ve just had to do some jumping about, there.

Mostly … ?

Where the by-now-traditional intro-video, and photo, wouldn’t load in Safari or Firefox.

But would in Google Chrome.

Quite what’s going on there … ?

I don’t know.

~≈§≈~

At any rate … ?

At any rate, I’m off to the job centre, today: for my usual fortnightly meeting with my work coach.

Hopefully?

I’ll be able to get him to answer me a question.

Am I ok to turn down a job … if it’s a temp position that’ll only last for three months?

Here’s hoping …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-4-2018: Guernica

26th April, 2018.

Have you been following the news?

Have you … ?

If you, like me, have been watching the recent news, you’ll know Alder Hey Hospital, in Liverpool, is caring for an extremely ill little boy called Alfie Evans.

Seriously ill.

To the point where the parents have taken the hospital to court: in order to try and save their son.

I can appreciate that: I’d be doing the same, in their shoes.

I think it’s getting to the point where — whatever the legal outcome — the poor kid’s not long for this world: whether he’s treated at Alder Hey, taking up the Vatican Hospital offer to treat him … or taken home.

It’s sad … tragic …

Possibly any number of words …

But, beyond expressing sympathy to Alfie’s parents, and thanking the hospital staff.

Not much one can do.

There is something to add, though.

I ALSO notice this piece from the BBC’s news site.

That tells us hospital staff — and other patients — are being targeted by protestors.

Frankly?

I think that’s unhelpful.

I think going for staff and patients is abusing them: and abusing them, for no good purpose.

Terry Pratchett fan that I am, I’m ALSO aware of my favourite writer’s thoughts.
“I know it’s a very human thing to say ‘Is there anything I can do’, but in this case I would only entertain offers from very high-end experts in brain chemistry.”
Sir Terry Pratchett.
OK …

The protestors want to help this child survive.

They don’t want him to die.

They want him to live.

All good.

But if they want to help Alfie Evans … ?

They should learn neurosurgery.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-4-2017

Hmmm …

He says …

Do you ever get a recurring thought … ?

That’s someone’s going to die … ?

I don’t know that I do.

I do know I keep expecting to see news of the death of Tom Baker on the news: and, thankfully, get disappointed!

He’s a tough old goat, that man … !

The Daily Teaser — 26-4-2016

Oh, well, that seemed to work …

I mentioned, yesterday, I was having a problem with my hands: with quite a bit of dry skin.

Thankfully, though?

I managed to pick up a tub of skin cream from my local branch of Boots: a rather strong, medicated one.

It does seem to have worked rather well.

My hands are definitely felling a touch better!

It’s all good!
