Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th October 2024.

29th October, 2024.

Right …

I mentioned, yesterday, that there was talk the government were — apparently — planning to scrap the bus fare cap: the one that’s been in place since the Cost of Living crisis.

That’s annoying: the thing’s a life-saver if you’re on a low income.

However?

The Prime Minister announced, yesterday, that the cap would go from two pounds to three pounds.

That’s …

Well, it’s not something I wanted to hear.

But it’s better than a poke in the eye …

Oh …

I’m something of a Mac fan: you’re possibly aware of that.

You’re possibly also aware that’s Apple’s new range of iMacs have dropped: at least, they’re ready for pre-order.

I have to say, they look impressive.

They now start with sixteen gigabytes of RAM, by default: and come in four different stock options.

Still …

I have criticisms.

First?

The high end machine comes with a ‘normal’ M4 chip: and can’t, seemingly, be configured with anything more powerful.

Secondly?

My second criticism is the same one I’ve had for a while.

These modern machines only have four USB c/Thunderbolt 4 ports*.

Anyone buying these new machines will probably need a lot of dongles …

Just as a last thought … ?

I’ve officially found out I’ve lost 300 grams, at yesterday’s weight-in.

That’s not as much as I was hoping: but it’s better than I was expecting.

So that’s a result.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-1-2021: The Month of January

1st January, 2022.

Right … it’s now officially 2022.

Frankly?

I’m wishing you — and my regular readers — a Happy New Year.

Here’s hoping it’s better than last year.

Or, at least, less diseased.

COVID’s been hanging around for a while.

Oh, one news item that DID stick in my mind?

You possibly will have seen singing the Robert Burns tune, Auld Lang Syne, on New Year’s Eve: and standing in a circle, with arms cross-linked with those of their neighbours.

It turns out the ritual is linked to the Freemasons: it’s an old tradition of theirs.

Something I wasn’t too surprised about.

Burns was a Mason, after all.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th October, 2020.

29th October, 2020.

OK …

I hate waking up with earworms: with songs playing through my head.

Never-the-less?

I woke up with Gaga’s Love Game banging around my head.

Why, I don’t know.

I just want to know what a bunch of dancers on the New York subway … are dancing around a bottle of Campari?

We’ll possibly never know …

JUST as a follow-up?

I mentioned the closure of the Brentwood Centre, yesterday.

The BBC has filled in a few details.

It seems the Trust has been in talks with Brentwood Council since July: and that in the meeting about it, the Council refused to help the Centre financially.

Although the minutes from the meeting have yet to be released, it seems that was an unanimous vote.

Frankly?

I can’t help but think the vote was a stitch up: at least, that’s what the Brentwood Centre’s site seems to imply.

Equally frankly?

It strikes me that Brentwood Councillors need serious replacing, come May, ’21.

Between this, the lack of a cinema and the local phone mast?

I’m thinking none of Brentwood councillors are worth re-electing.

Just as an EXTRA thought … ?

I’ve managed to finish my revieww or episode sis of Watchmen: This Extraordinary Being.

That’s one hell of a piece of TV.
