Right … it’s Monday.

So?

You’ve possibly realised that I’m off to my weight management class, off shopping, off bill paying: which you’d realised, if you’d read yesterday’s Teaser!

On top of that … ?

I’ve got a few bits coming from Amazon.

Something I suspect I may have to sign for: as it includes a leatherworking knife I’m going to use to repair my favourite waistcoat.

Or, at least, cut some leather cord I need to repair my favourite waistcoat.

At any rate, I think I’m going to be in Brentwood High Street for a while.

And my legs will end up, aching!

A few days ago, the old Dr Who TV movie was made available for pre-order: on Amazon, and other sites.

In glorious 4k, I should add.

That could be a wise purchase, I think.

It’s also a wise move.

I think transferring as much to the higher definition format is a good move: especially as there’s only so much that’s been made available in that resolution.

One Peter Capaldi story, and the Peter Cushing movies, thus far.

So the TV movie is a welcome addition …

23rd February, 2023: Brunei.

Yes: it’s official.

I’ve got the radio on.

The programme that covered the history of underwear has now finished: and been replaced by Sunday.

Which is telling how the restoration of many churches is being delayed, and a brief tour of a robe-making factory.

Hand-made robes, I should add, none of your machine embroidery!

At any rate … ?

The programme’s also reminded us that Muhsin Hendricks — the world’s first openly gay imam — has been shot.

In what’s assumed to be a hate crime by someone opposed to Hendricks’ sexuality.

My sympathies to the imam’s family and partner.

But I have to admit to a strange chain of thought.

I’ve heard the word ‘martyr’ used many times: by the sort of people who organised the 9/11 attacks.

The terrorists called the attackers ‘martyrs’, and ‘heroes’.

And … ?

I think whoever carried out the murder of Muhsin Hendricks, sees himself in the same way: as a hero, as someone happy to die in a just cause.

When in truth?

The killer has martyred his victim: in a murder that will see Imam Hendricks remembered as a champion.

It looks nice out: there’s a certain amount of sunshine, happening.

Which is nice.

Although the BBC’s weather page for the area … ?

Tells me it’s nippy: and that there’s a possibility of rain.

That’s, frankly, going to make shopping, fun!

I notice that wossname, thingummy do-da, yurt yurt!

I’ll put my teeth in!

I notice that regulators have reduced the energy price cap: starting from April.

Hopefully?

That’ll have an effect.

How much of an effect?

I really don’t know.

23rd February, 2023: The Emperor’s Birthday.

Right … it’s officially pay day.

Frankly?

That leaves me doing one thing: paying the bills.

Yes: it’s all fun and games!

I follow the news, occasionally: indeed, I’ve got Radio 4’s flagship Today programme on, as I write.

I’m ALSO aware I’m connected to the ’Net with what’s called a Social Tariff: a cheap internet connection, aimed at those of us on a low income.

Personally?   I think a bit more could be done to promote these.

And, possibly, make them cheaper.

It seems a few people agree: as various bodies have spoken to the relevant House of Lords committees, arguing more should be done to promote them, and that they should not be liable to Value Added Tax, for VAT.

Here’s hoping that helps!

Right … I think I can say I trued watching a movie last night.

The Jessica Hausner directed Little Joe.

The colour palette’s lovely, I should stress.

The basic idea — Frankenstein’s Monster is a genetically modified plant — is good.

But it really didn’t keep my attention.

The acting was good: but possibly a little too restrained.

The pacing … ?

Just a little too slow.

Granted, what I saw of it had at least one jump-scare … 

But … ?

Little Joe only kept my attention for about fifty minutes … I turned off halfway through.

For all Little Joe is well made and (possibly) acted?

It’s not stunning.

Oh … I mentioned — at some point last week — I was expecting a new neighbour to move into the flat, next door.

The lights being left on was something of a clue.

Well … I’ve met them: and helped them find their electricity and gas meters.

Hopefully, they’ll do well: they seem nice.

It’s officially the case … we had a power cut, over night.

How did I know?

Well, I’ve a CPAP machine, a Continuous Positive Air Pressure machine: that helps me breath while I’m asleep.

And a little light on the fire alarm, visible from my bedroom.

Subconsciously, I noticed both were off, woke up, noticed it was darker than usual … 

And checked.

My lights were off, the street lights were off, the electricity meter was off … 

And I had a text message on my phone — from the company that runs the electricity grid — to say so!

Things looked dark!

But, thankfully, not for long.

What happened?

I wish I knew.

Doctor Who — Series 12: Episode 9 — Ascension of the Cybermen — A Review

23rd February, 2020.

Yes: it’s Sunday night.

Just so you know.

And those of you who’ve been following me for a while … ?

Will realise I’ve had dinner at my family’s.

And been able to borrow one of my sisters laptops to check out … 

Do you know what an installer is?

It’s something that lets you install software — productivity software, operating systems, drivers, what-have-you — onto a computer.

I’ve been trying to make one for a while, now: that will let me install a version of the open source operating system, Ubuntu, onto a laptop.

The laptop’s a birthday present, so you know, and something I’ll be getting in a few weeks time.

But I’m not particular keen on having Windows on there: which is why I’m trying to make an OS installer.

I’ve not been able to use my Mac to do it.

So ended up using the Windows version of balenaEtcher to turn the stick into an Ubuntu installer.

Given I’m a committed Mac fan?

You can imagine my annoyance.

But, at any rate, I now have a suitable stick … 

All I need now is a suitable computer …

Yes … 

Yesterday was one of those days.

After all, I had to to get at four — as I have, today — to go to work.   

But ended up, convinced my alarm had gone off, at two.

Which meant I ended up in one hell of a state, finishing work early.

Which ALSO meant I posted yesterday’s Teaser answers up a day early: sorry folks!

I don’t think it helps:that I seem to be going down with a touch of flu, and a temperature over the past few days.

Which meant grabbing the window seat, at work yesterday, helped.

The 1º temperatures we had, didn’t half help.

Can I add a brief thought, here?

As we know, last week saw seventeen people killed in a school shooting in Florida: sparking yet more discussion of the USA’s gun control laws.

I think for many outside the US?

The easy availability of serious weaponry, weaponry usually reserved for the military, is something shocking: especially when that country allows someone to buy those weapons … to tragic ends.

I’ve always had the impression the US Constitution is one of the world’s finest pieces of legal writing: but the Second Amendment, that allows for that?

Might need revision.

At any rate?

It seems President Trump’s position is that arming teachers would be a good way to defend pupils.   Which some teasers oppose.

One thing I do know?   That I’ve seen on the news?

Is that, like many schools in the US, the school where the shooting took place had an armed deputy onsite: in order to deal with exactly this sort of situation.

He respond to the shooter: didn’t see him, didn’t go into the building, what have you.

Why, I don’t know.

Although I think I, armed or otherwise, would be hesitant to deal with an armed and active shooter.

But?

There was an armed person on site, to deal with this sort of situation, who didn’t.

Which, to me?

Undermines the President’s argument.

You tend to value the chance to catch up with your favourite TV shows, if nothing else.

I do, at any rate.

One of those shows is Mr Robot.

And, as you might have guessed?

I’ve caught two more episodes, tonight.

Do you follow the Brits, at all?   The annual British pop music awards?

Personally?

I don’t.

I like listening to music: but not to the point of tuning into the various annual gong shows.

But I tend — if they’re on — to keep an eye on the results.

Just in case anyone I’ve actually heard of gets an award.

There was one such winner, last night.

David Bowie won Best Album, and Best British Male.

Personally?

I think that’s entirely appropriate.
