It’s the laughing, happy time of year, when my landlords sent around a man: to do my gas safety check!

I caught the Ralph Bakshi directed film, Wizards, the other night.

And … ?

Well, I think my written, and video, reviews could something things up better than I could, right now.

Oh, I’ve just had a quick look at the Essex news section of the BBC’s news site.

Apparently?

A team lead by a University of Essex researcher has discovered what the team refers to as a ‘carnivorous death ball’ in the Antarctic Ocean.

Which is nice: possibly.

But … ?

I can’t help but think ‘carnivorous death ball’ sounds like a cheesy heavy metal band …

I am officially up!

Yay!

And I’m officially busy.

My weight management meeting is this morning: hopefully, I’ll’ve lost more weight, regardless of how much I’ve lost.

This afternoon … ?

I’ve got a hygienist appointment.

At some point, between the two … I plan to get more sleep!

I feel knackered!

I have to admit, I caught some news, today: on the BBC’s Teletext service.

Seemingly?   And from January of 2024?

The city of Edinburgh is to introduce new traffic regulations.

Regulations that will fine drivers who park on the pavement, £100.

Well done, them.

Now … 

When will Brentwood Council be doing this?

I guarantee you, there’s cars on the pavement, as I write.

11th November, 2022: Armistice Day.

Yes: I’m mildly hungry.

Hungry, up early … and drinking as much water as possible.

In other words, I’m doing the usual basic stuff I have to do: as preparation for my quarterly diabetic blood tests.

It’s a much needed check.

But I’m looking forward to food!

Yep: I’m officially tired again.

But, again, for pretty the same reasons I was tired, last Thursday.

Yes: I’ve caught the last episode of Lovecraft Country.

I have to admit two things.

• It’s fantastic.
• HBO are disgusting.

HBO cancelled Lovecraft Country.

That’s a disgusting thing to do: the series has some great writing, a very good cast, and a fantastic story, and HBO have chosen to cancel it.

It’s their loss.

I mentioned — a while back — how I’d been put forward for a medical assessment, so I can claim any extra help available.

I filled in the relevant form … and waited.

The assessor finally got in touch with me, yesterday.

Or, at least, sent me a letter with an assessment date.

It’s in Chelmsford, the day before payday!

I’ver phoned them to re-arrange things, as I won’t have the ticket money!

Their representative, a woman called Andrea, told me she’s emailed the relevant people, to try and arrange for a phone interview.

I get the impression I’ll have to phone, again: JUST to make sure that message has gone through,

Just as a final thought?

No Time To Die has hit streaming services in the US.

Just the US.

I can understand the production companies want it to make as much money as possible at the cinema, but doing a simultaneous release in just the US … ?

Seems both unfair … and an invitation to piracy.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-11-2020: Armistice Day

11th November, 2020

Yeah: stuff’s happening.

Firstly?

You’ll remember me saying that an old friend had died, recently?

I’ve managed to get hold of a card, and some lined paper: to send a condolence message.

One that gets posted, today.

I just hope my handwriting’s legible: it’s been a while since I’ve used a pen …

You’re possibly aware I’m something of a Mac fan: and have been for years.

So, whilst I didn’t watch it live, was very well aware of Apple’s big launch event, yesterday.

Seemingly?   macOS 11 Big Sur is due to be released, tomorrow.

I’m expecting to see it crop up on my updates, within the next few days.

Quite how that’ll work out, I don’t know, although I know it’s compatible with my machine.

I’m tempted to install it as soon as it’s available: although I’m very aware of the usual advise, when it comes to updates.

Leave it awhile, before installing.   That way, any bugs can be worked through.

That same event, of course, saw Apple introduce new Macs: with Apple’s range of ARM based processor chips.

Two new low end Mac minis, a new MacBook Air, and a 13” MacBook Pro.

It has to be said, the new base model Mac mini — with stock 256gb SSD, and 8gb of what Apple’s calling unified* memory — is being advertised at £699.99p.

Which, for Apple, is comparatively reasonable.

The baseline 13” MacBook Air?   I notice that looks good: although it has a 720p webcam, on a par with my 2017 model iMac.

That’s something that could have had a 1080p camera: it would’ve made the price more reasonable.

At any rate?

From the little I’ve understood, the ARM based M1 chips have been released in the Air, Mini, and 13” models:  machines that are comparatively light weight, and could benefit from the low energy use that ARM chips provide.

That’s a good thing.

Frankly?   Yes: I’d like one.

It’s me you’re talking to.

Although, frankly?

I’d have to wait.

Partly to save up some cash.

Partly … ?

To wait for an M1 based iMac to be released.

And partly?

For any mission critical software to be re-written for the new processors.

I don’t want to give up playing Backgammon, just yet!

11th November, 2019: Armistice Day.

Right … It was raining, mildly, when I filmed that video.

Which means … ?

Plenty of cars were going through puddles, frankly.

And heading out?   Is going to mean putting a hat on.

If nothing else.

Oh, and possibly some clothes: going out in just a hat’s going to frighten the neighbours …

Oh, did I mention that the news catches my eyes, occasionally?

Having had my issues with with alcohol over the years, this piece caught my eye.

It tells us that US researchers are using experimental brain implants to help those with various opioid addictions reduce their cravings: a variation of a technique called Deep Brain Stimulation, or DBS.

It’s … 

Well, if I’ve understood it correctly, the US study is very experimental, long term and has ethicists monitoring it  … but could be useful.

Here’s hoping it’s found to work.

Anything that can reduce overdoses can’t be anything but good.

I think I have problems at work: after having something of a row with one of the supervisors, yesterday.

It’s been a bit of an ongoing situation, to be brutally frank.

Whether I’ve a job to go back to, tomorrow?

Is a whole other issue, to be frank.

The unexpected day off?

Has got me worried: at least worried enough to start thinking about anger management classes!

And … the immediate future.

Lord knows what I’ll be doing, then: I won’t know until I can do something about it.

For now?

Writing, catching up with the house work, lord knows what else … 

Oh, and tonight’s episode of Dr Who.

The Time Team look like they’re having less problems!

It’s Saturday.

And, as much as I don’t mind working days?

I think that all those years working from Lunch to early evening?

Means getting up at five for a 10 o’clock start?

Other news has seen Ofcom, the UK’s telecoms regulator, has announced that — if a customer’s broadband goes down — they’d be done compensation.

Some eight pounds per day.

I know that’s not much.

But frankly?

That’s going to come in handy, at some point.
