Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th April 2026.

24th April, 2026.

Hmmm …

There’s a newly introduced fund that’s supposed to help those of us on a low income: called the ‘Crisis and Resilience Fund’.

The arm of the fund aimed at Essex residents?

Is run by Southend Council.

I applied to it, a couple of weeks ago, if you recall: and was happy to wait.

I got the decision letter, a couple of days ago.

I’ve been refused help: as I’m ‘not in financial shock’ … !

My ‘Donate’ button’s in the sidebar … !

I’ve been following the progress of the Assisted Dying Bill through Parliament,

And, while I can’t see myself needing or wanting an assisted death?

Think it’s much like abortion: a thing that should be legally available.

Those of us who need it, should be able to get it: freely and legally.

Unfortunately?

The current bill is going through the House of Lords, and looks like it will run out of time.

I think that’s a great shame …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th April, 2025.

24th April, 2025.

Right: it’s official.

I am now the proud owner of a physical copy of The Rubber-keyed Wonder: a documentary about the ZX Spectrum, one of the UK’s seminal 8-bit computers.

The fact I’m also waiting for Penguin’s annotated version of Terry Pratchett’s Night Watch?

Is probably incidental.

At any rate … ?

The first of two discs is ripping as I speak.

Whilst I was sorely tempted to stream the thing through Apple’s TV.app — the film’s also available in the UK, through Amazon Prime — that raises issues.

I’m always concerned — as are many — that ‘buying’ a digital product to stream doesn’t give you permanent ownership of that product.

If the streamer’s license runs out?

You lose access to it.

Granted, Apple has a bit of blurb on its page about the film: that if you download it to a compatible device,  they can’t remove it from the device, and you don’t need an internet connection to view it.

I’m assuming Amazon have similar terms.

Even with those provisos?

That — to me, at least — that sounds like the streamers can still remove streamed content: even if they can’t or don’t remove downloaded content.

There’s also the fact the Apple and Amazon seem to only offer the film itself for rental/purchase.

But not whatever’s on the second disc that came with the physical copy I’ve bought.

That … ?

As far as I can see, that mix of extras and physical ownership makes purchasing decision, wise.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th April 2024

24th April, 2024.

Right … Wednesday …

It’s Wednesday: and — for me — both the day after payday …

And the day after I didn’t have a haircut!

But did get my bills paid.

At the moment … ?

As shaggy as I’m feeling, I’m thinking the haircut will have to wait.

But don’t know for sure.

Heigh … … … …Ho!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th April 2023.

24th April, 2023.

Right … I’m up early, again.

Frankly?

I have a weight management meeting this morning, which should go well.

I’ve actually lost weight.

I’m blaming the semaglutide, rather of my efforts!

At any rate … ?

I’ve got that … and a meeting my my work coach, this afternoon.

Busy, busy, busy … !

~≈¥≈~

One thing I am grateful for … ?

Is simply the fact that BT, my Internet Service Provider, my ISP, is charging me a cheap rate for my internet connection.

It’s their Home Essentials package, a cheap package designed for those of us on low incomes.

Despite that … ?   And according to this piece on the BBC’s news pages?

People still aren’t taking it up in numbers.

I can only encourage people to do so.

And repeat what the piece tells us, that the following companies are ones that offer the deals:
  • BT
  • EE
  • SMARTY
  • Community Fibre
  • NOW
  • Sky
  • Virgin Media
  • KCOM
  • Hyperoptic
  • G Network
  • VOXI
Chase them up, folks!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-4-2021: Barbra

24th April, 2021.

Right …

I’ve been shopping: and may need to do more.

As I’ve not managed to pick up bits of my goulash recipe.

Although I might just make a beef stew, instead.

There’s slightly less ingredients.

I pick up Nectar points, either way.

Just possibly not a haircut … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-4-2020: The Number 24.

24th April, 2020.

It’s officially official … it’s silly season.

For starters?

In a comment at yesterday’s Presidential press conference?

President Trump suggested injecting disinfectant was a possible way of curing Covid 19.

Will former President George W. Bush be running for a third term, this year?

In retrospect, he honestly sounds like a better option!
“They misunderestimated me.”
George W. Bush.
~≈†≈~

Then there’s 5g phones mast!

According to a downright stupid theory doing the rounds?

5g signals are, apparently, responsible for corona virus … to the point where people are attacking, or harassing, engineers installing 5g kit.

The stupidity of people … really doesn’t surprise me, sometimes!
“Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?”
George W. Bush.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-4-2019: The Ego and the Id

24th April, 2019.

Yes: I’ll happily admit to being something of an armchair snooker fan.

One who’s happy to watch the World Championships, if they’re on …

And one who was happily glued to the First Round match, last night: between Stuart Bingham, and Graeme Dott.

That … ?

That was quite a match.

Going into the last session, Bingham was 9-1 ahead, and looking at a near whitewash …

Until Dotty managed to catch up, over the next few hours: only losing after a missed red.

And after a lot of tippy tapping around.

Old school snooker, in fact.

With Ronnie O’Sullivan out in the first round?

This year’s championship is looking good!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th April, 2018

24th April, 2018.

Yep …

The whole prayer situation is … evolving.

Basically?   I thought, yesterday, that I’d managed to sort my money situation out.

But …

Well, let’s put it this way … I need to do more negotiation in order to get things right.

It’s …

Well, I think I’m going to have to storm heaven, again.

~≈§≈~

As a thought, whilst I’ve got your attention?

I’m a science fiction fan.   And, inevitably, aware you get entirely theoretical scenes where someone has to get clever, opening a door.

Oh, you know the sort of thing: the ones that have what we NOW call fingerprint — or palm print — recognition from specific people, in order to get a door open.

Equally, there’s several solutions if your palm isn’t one of the recognised prints.

Sellotape, twisting your own hand when it’s on the glass, threatening to tear someone’s hand off …

If you’re of a certain age, you’ve come across SOMETHING like it …

Then you read this piece on the BBC’s news website.

That tells us that Florida police have tried using a dead suspect’s frozen — in the morgue — body: to try and unlock his iPhone.

When life imitates art?   You worry.

When life starts imitating science fiction?

I THINK you can panic!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-4-2017

I have to admit, I was tired, last night.

Which is what happens when you’re up at six, to go to work …

When you’ve got to bed at twelve, the night before, getting back from work at eleven!

You get …

Yeah, you see my point … !

At ANY rate … ?

I managed to catch Dr Who, last night: and throughly enjoyed Smile.

I’m just wondering about that elephant …

The Daily Teaser — 24-4-2016

Well, that went OK … !

I mentioned, yesterday, that I’ve volunteered for World Book Night, this year: as I have for the past few.

And have to admit, it went well.

I managed to hand out the sixteen copies I had — of SJ Parrish’s Treachery — fairly rapidly: up and down Brentwood High Street.

Which went VERY well.

I think we can safely say getting a free book is quite something …

~≈Ÿ≈~

In other events?

In other events, Dr Who has a new companion: in the snap of a character called Bill: played by Pearl Mackie.

Personally?

I’m looking forward to her introduction in 2017.

She looks rather interesting …
