Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-2-2026 — Brave New World (Ten Questions)

4th February, 2026: Brave New World.

Right then … it’s Wednesday … !

Which means — as my nephew, Jude, was over, last night … ? — that it’s time for another of his videos!

You’re officially making ‘YAY’ noises, aren’t you … ?

~≈⚽️≈~

The former BBC2 series, Mock the Week, has been revived: on its new channel, TLC.

In a new, extended, form.

I caught the repeated, first episode, last night.

It was an hour long: in part, due to the various ad breaks.

It’s still funny … but I don’t think the ad-breaks, or the extended run-time, appealed … !

~≈📢≈~

Which reminds me …

There’s a few TV shows I want to watch, then review: including the last series of Stranger Things, and Star Trek: Star Fleet Academy.

That’s going to have to wait, though, I think: until after my piece on the Ralph Bakshi version of The Lord of the Rings.

Which should be today.

Here’s hoping!

~≈🧙‍♂️≈~

As a last thought … ?

I’ve now, officially, deactivated my X/Twitter account.

And, surprisingly?

It’s not because of Elon Musk, or his politics.

Granted, I didn’t — and don’t — like what I know of his beliefs: but they didn’t stop my enjoyment of X, as a site.

I’ve met someone nice people as a result of being on the thing.

No, what’s got me leaving?

I have, for some sixteen odd years, advertised both this blog, and my YouTube videos, on X.

Quite repetitively so, in fact.

And, in the past few weeks?

Had my account limited.

Because those posts have been seen as spam, and — ha! — inauthentic!

So, after a lot of thinking?

I’ve deactivated my X account.

After thirty days, after 4th March, 2026, anyone using my account, @Cuddy2977, isn’t going to be me.

Feel free to follow me on Facebook, Mastodon, Instagram and Bluesky.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-2-2018: Glen Coe …

13th February, 2018.

Bloody Twitter … !

They are — at the moment — telling me that the Tweets I post — with each day’s Daily Teaser on them — are automated and spam.

And stopped me doing them, however temporarily!

I’ve reported it, of course.

But lord knows how it’ll take to rectify the issue.

Can I ask you a favour?

Can you complain?   To @TwitterSupport, on Twitter?

Ta … !

The Daily Teaser — 21-3-2016: Twiddly Twiddly Twitter … !

You know … I think I’ve had a bad night … !

At least, going by the way I feel, right now.

Most mornings?

I’m up, about and ready to go.

This morning?

Well, if I wasn’t working I probably would’ve gone back to sleep!

Oh, well …

Onwards and upwards … !

The Daily Teaser — 15-7-2015: Twittering About

You know, the word ‘Bleugh’ springs to mind, here … !

Mostly where I up late, last night.

Making slideshows for this here very blog … !

You know, I never thought buying that copy of the iWorks ’09 suite, back in the day, would prove to have quite so useful.

But there you go.   It has.

And BOY, my eyeballs are twanging as a result … !

I would insist on finishing 11 of those videos: and getting to bed at one in the morning, as a result.

Oy veh … !

The Daily Teaser — 10-11-2014

Hmmm …

Didn’t expect to see that.

Did I tell you I’m on Twitter?   I’m on Twitter: if you didn’t know.

Like most of us, there, I try and be polite: and keep my use of bad language to a minimum.   Hard work, sometimes, but I usually manage it.

Which doesn’t mean I’ve not been on the wrong end of it.

I’m a Dr Who fan, as you know: and have a Twitter list about the subject.   Saturday And Sunday?   Was busy, obviously.   And usually?   Usually, most of the people I’ve got on it are polite, and happy to talk: including, I should add, the people who aren’t enjoying the Moffat era of the show.

Some, on the other hand?   Some, like one chap I talked to, yesterday, definitely aren’t interested in being polite.

I’d innocently — and politely, I felt — suggested to one group that, if they were seriously not enjoying the show, then maybe changing channels — or turning off the TV — would be an idea.

And got … well, not a torrent of abuse: but certainly got replies with seriously offensive language.

Now I’ve worked in pubs.   I’ve used, and heard, all sorts of language: especially when kicking people out at closing time, on Fridays and Saturdays.

I’m used to strong opinions.   I’m used to offensive language.

I’m used to hearing offensive language: in a pub, after the user’s had a few, and getting kicked out.   I expect it, in that context.

I might expect to hear that sort of language, in private, from friends who are seriously angry about something.

I don’t expect to get it in a public forum, first thing on a Sunday morning.   Not my local newsagent.   Not in a supermarket, while I’m shopping.

And certainly not on Twitter.

The Daily Teaser — 10-09-2012

Oh, now that’s a sad thing.

Did I tell you I was following Steven Moffat, current showrunner of both Dr Who and Sherlock.

I was, until he deleted his account, yesterday.

Ostensibly — and going by a Tweet from his wife, Sue Vertue — due to the amount of distraction on the site.
Saying that, some of the talk I’ve seen on both FB and Twitter … ?   Says he was getting a lot of hate tweets.

For whatever reason, though … ?

Steven Moffat being off Twitter’s unfortunate: I don’t know about you, but I like getting the proverbial ‘straight poop’ about my favourite TV shows: and following those shows creator on Twitter enable’s me to get some.

I’m ALSO thinking it’s a shame that some of my fellow fans think bullying is an acceptable way of expressing any grievance they may have about his handling of the show.

Let’s get moving on, shall we?

Before I get annoyed …

~~~~~
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* admitting she thoroughly enjoyed yesterday’s Spike Milligan clip, AND this week’s episode of Dr Who … AND bagging 6 out of 6.
Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?   Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video …
Q1) According to the WHO, 10th September, 2012, is World what Prevention Day … ?
Q2) 10th September, 1932, saw the IND line go into operation: this was the  third line in which city’s Tube system … ?
Q3) 10th September, 1823, saw who named as President of Peru … ?
Q4) 10th September, 1988, saw TV presenters Mike Smith and Sarah Greene involved in a serious helicopter crash: they survived, and went on to marry in which year …?
Q5) And finally … 10th September, 1963, saw which credit card service go into service in the UK … ?
And here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 9th September, 1850, saw California admitted as the 31st state of the USA: California had originally been claimed by which country … ?
A1) Spain.
Q2) 9th September, 1976, saw the death of Chairman Mao.   In which Chinese province had he been born … ?
A2) Hunan.
Q3) More to the point, in which year … ?
A3) 1893.
Q4) 9th September, 9 AD, saw the Battle of Teutoberg Forest take place: this saw the defeat of how many Roman legions, by German tribesmen …?
A4) 3.
Q5) 9th September, 337, saw three brothers succeed their father as Roman Emperor: who was that father … ?
A5) Constantine 1st: aka Constantine the Great.
Q6) And finally … 9th September, 1969, saw what made an official language of Canada … ?
A6) French.
Enjoy those, everyone: I’ll catch you later.
After I ’ve left you with this video of Henry Purcell’s Trumpet Voluntary …
And this quote from Arnold Palmer …
“Putting is like wisdom - partly a natural gift and partly the accumulation of experience.”
Arnold Palmer born September 10, 1929
*        What always makes me laugh, Debbi, is that clip was from the British Comedy Awards, a few years ago.   The audience … are a theatre full of stand-ups, comedy actors, writers, et al.   It says a lot about Milligan, when you realise he had a roomful of hardened professional laughing their heads off.   (Oh, and about Dr Who … ?   I refer you to my opening statements …)
How To Get Followed By Pop Stars, On Twitter
OK, I’ve been through the ODD experience.
One of the slightly odder … ?
Is getting followed by one-hit wonders, A Tribe Of Toffs, on Twitter.
And that’s mostly because I happened to tweet radio presenter — and former ITV weather-woman — Wincey Willis*, that she’d been name-checked at the end of their one hit.
Here …
Let me play you the tune …
* And it turns out Ms Willis is a fellow blogger … !
Twitter, Injunctions and Footballers
Hmmm …
Hmmmmm …
Or possibly even Hmmmmmmm …
You know, I’ve got to confess, I’m … concerned …
Sort of …
I don’t know if you knew, but the UK’s got privacy laws.
Obviously … !
And as part of this, over the past few weeks, Britain’s various news services have been reporting about the fact that various unnamed public figures have managed to get what’s been called ‘super injunctions’.
The main difference — as far as I understand it — is that an injunction, complete with details of who took it out, against who, and why, can be reported.
A super injunction can’t.
The problem is that, over the past few days, people have managed to tweet the names of several people who’ve had these super injunctions taken out.
Including a footballer known in court CTB.
He’s going to court to prevent various newspapers breaching the super injunction.
And issue a court order to get Twitter to hand over the details of anyone who’s tweeted all the juicy details.
»»•««
Now, I’ve go to admit, I’m a touch dubious about this …
I always try and be careful about what I say and do, online.
But I’m very aware that I’m not, by any stretch of the imagination, any kind of public figure …
Well …
Not unless you’ve a thing about short and chunky bloggers*.
But I’m very aware that, while we’ve all got an inherent right to privacy …
I believe public figures are — obviously — in the public eye.
Whether they’re politicians, premier league footballers or otherwise.
These people have chosen to put themselves in view.
And should maybe be a little bit MORE aware — and tolerant — of the fact people will want to know about everything they do.
* A very old and dear gay friend of mine swears blind I’d go down a storm on the teddy bear circuit …
WikiLeaks: Getting Tweeted About …
Hmm …
You know, it has been a while since I’ve posted about WikiLeaks.
But — since Julian Assange’s bailing — there’s not much that I’ve seen that I though could be worth mentioning to you.
Until a piece of news floated past my attention …
It seems that — in the middle of December of last year — the US District Court for Virginia had subpœnaed Twitter: in order to get hold of the details of Julian Assange, Pfc Manning, who’d leaked the cables to WikiLeaks in the first place, and Icelandic MP Birgitta Jonsdottir, who’d helped frame Iceland’s Modern Media Initiative, which made Iceland a have for investigative journalism.
Who, understandably, was a touch Tweeted off.
|«•»|
Now, quite what this all implies, I’m not sure.
But to me … ?
It look’s like the US is still after the whistle blowing site.
Personally … ?
I personally don’t think any better for them for doing so.
Just as a How-To for Newcomers!!
You know, it still surprises me how many bright people I’ve met that can’t figure out how to leave a comment, here!!
It does!
I’ve got to admit, I spent a happy-ish half hour, emailing a brief tutorial over to Sue, who’s an old friend. And who’s son, Dave, was occasionally known to play the quiz, over at the King Harold.
Now, those were some wild nights, I tell you!
But I’m digressing, are I?
I am!
But as I said to both Sue — and Tim — it’s basically very simple.
As I told them — and anyone else that asks — all you need to do is — if you’re on Facebook or Twitter, for example — is to click on the relevant links. It shows up as a shortened URL, in a Twitter post, and as a link at the bottom of a FB note.
Either of which take you to the original post, here on the Old Peculiar blog.
Says I, stating the blooming obvious …
At any rate, it get fairly easy — if a little hard to spot — after that.
Usually, at the bottom of each post, there’s a bit that say’s “0 (or whatever) Comments.”
If you click on that, it’ll take you through to another window — oh, boy! — as the screen grab towards the bottom will show you!
The actual comment screen itself is fairly simply; put want you want to write in the box, and then press the “Publish Your Comment” button.
One thing, though that I will emphasise here, though, and it’s something I’ve always asked people to keep in mind.
I usually don’t mind anonymous comments.
I don’t.
But, as I’ve had the odd somewhat contentious comment, I’d prefer people to leave at least a name, even if you’d rather not put a URL in!
Cheers!
27/10/2009: Just as a quick point, I was watching Kevin leave a comment, here, today, when I noticed that you have — as I’ve got Word Verification turned on — to make sure that you feed in the word, correctly; otherwise the post doesn’t go on, correctly.
Kevin had to have two tries at it; the page didn’t publish his comment, that first time.
It simply asked asked him to feed another word, before he hit the ‘Publish Your Comment’ button.
And, after talking it over with Tim, one of my more frequent commentors, this morning, I’m willing to beat that’s why I’ve had one or two people complaining they couldn’t get their answers up!
24/1/2010: Just as a further point, you might just want to get round the problem I mentioned on 27/10/2009, by using whatever light-weight text editor you happen to prefer: TextEdit, gEdit, or WordPad. But I think the video explains it a little better.
±±±±±
At any rate, lets move on, shall we?
Shall we?
Yes, let’s!
I’ve got to admit, I downloaded a copy of the all new iTunes, just recently — on the day of release, in fact — and, so far, I’m mildly pleased.
There’s not a lot that’s different, between it and version 8.
However …
The Genius Mix feature is rather handy; it’s generated a dozen or so mixes, based on the genres of music I’ve got in my collection, and keeps them handily all together, in one screen.
It’s as near as I can get to having a controllable radio station, on the Mini, as possible.
I also know iTunes 9 comes with am new feature for when I’m syncing the rather diddly 3rd generation iPod of mine; in addition to the usual ‘Pick a Playlist’ routine, I can now organise it by artist!
I’ll let you know what I think, once I’ve toyed more, with it!
